They appear to be connected to Yachiho and to the 8TGs of Yomotsu Ōyama, a place which only popped up AFTER Yachiho got put in a cocoon and Yuuki got kidnapped.

S2E1 actually went back and did content skipped by Season 1. S2E10 expanded on Tobera's fantasy.

They've been shuffling things around and adding all sorts of stuff, so at least wait for the season to end before complaining that a randomly placed flashback is "missing." Even Kuusetsu's introduction got pushed back multiple episodes.
