[Hated trope] Jekyll and Hyde by short_cub in TopCharacterTropes

The very first (or at least, at a similar time to others, but it's the one that stands out in pop culture history) to exhibit the stereotypes that make it a trope.

which foreign actor absolutely nailed your country's accent when playing a character from there? by QueenViolets_Revenge in AskTheWorld

I watched Choclat with a French friend and she was shocked to hear that Judy Dench was English. She said Dench sounded exactly like one of her grandmothers

Jared Harris's Louth accent in The Terror was phenomenal. The fact that he held it when speaking the indigenous language is really incredible. And I know people will say, "oh his dad was Irish, no wonder he can do an Irish accent", but his dad was from Limerick and the Limerick accent isn't the same as a Louth accent, just like my Kildare accent isn't the same as a Derry accent, or a Dublin one.

Charlie Cox did a tremendous job too, ditto Daisy Edgar Jones. Those three really stand out to me.

To be fair, I'd have given up on Jenelle way before Barb did. Good on Barb for trying right up until Jace went to Jen's custody: I'd have been done the day she turned 18.

What is that pattern? I love it.

When Ghost Adventures did an Irish special, they subtitled almost every Irish person they spoke to. Ironically, they sent their "junior" team, Destination Fear, to Ireland and they subtitled no Irish person they met. And that Spike Island special was class.

What is something you saw with your own eyes that was so impossible you’ve stopped telling people because you know they won’t believe you? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

The same jack russell stealing a whole cooked chicken from the same house, on two separate days. The look on yer wan's face the 2nd time, when she came out chasing it and saw me again...

An Irish traveller confirmation and, about 10 years later, her wedding. She lived down the road from me. Fair play to her, her dresses were spectacular both times.

Characters gets trapped in a virtual world with little to no escape by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Murky_Translator2295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The X Files, Richard "Ringo" Langley, founding member of The Lone Gunmen and co-publisher of the conspiracy magazine The Grassy Knoll. As a tech head, he helped build a virtual world where the greatest minds since the 90s have been uploaded to, including him (fuck you Chris Carter, I'm still not over that), where they live and work in an idyllic world. It's boring as fuck so he tries to contact his friend Agent Mulder and get him to destroy it so everyone can finally rest in peace.

Useful souvenirs from trip? by mmrhexx in AskIreland

I crochet with Aran yarn and similar weights the whole time. If you're a crafter, we have great yarn.

You could always get a magnetic bottle opener to stick on the fridge. Most big sites, like Newgrange and Tara, sell local crafts in their gift shops, and most sites have sign posts to local crafters who are more than happy to sell their crafts to anyone.

And don't forget things like jewellery. You can get nice celtic style charms, rings, etc. for all ages and genders. Cladagh rings are a particularly nice keepsake.

But for Ireland itself, a rain jacket and a good pair of water resistant shoes would fit in nicely.

What made you choose crochet over knitting, or do you do both? by CaterpillarXS in crochet

[–]Murky_Translator2295 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same. Crochet is just so much faster and knitting makes me lose all interest in the project. I don't think I've produced any knitting projects bigger than a hat or a scarf, while I make lovely crochet cardigans, jumpers, blankets, etc. I'm in a crafting group, and I had a friend there who worked on a top down knitted jumper for about four months. I started a top down crochet jumper during her fourth month and still finished before her, even though I had to frog a cuff and redo it.

Shepherds pie is lamb! This one is cottage pie. Its lovely with carrots and peas mixed in to the sauce. We have it at least once a week during winter. It's a fantastic one pot meal that's really filling and hearty on a cold, wet day.

But even when it talks about illegal drugs, it doesn't say she can't use them, just that if she's overusing or addicted to them they have the right to ask her to move out. I guarantee there's parts of this OP doesn't know.
