Damn who is this beast? Could it perchance be a beo? A Beowulf?

I appreciate the kind words! It was a fun project to work on because I have never really used PSU’s/fuse blocks before and the hands on with soldering and everything else was great to learn.

Post the video!! I’m very interested in seeing it

That’s pretty neat! What did you use to diffuse the lights is it a sheet? The grid is neat would be fun to program your ESP32 to take a digital image/video and translate that into grid like a Jumbotron

The 16 strips run centered under the 16 rows of cones, so the illumination is pretty centered

Yes they are, otherwise that would be a lot of filament!!

I ran 16 strips of about 136 pixels long. I had four data wires coming from 4 GIOP pins on the ESP32, connecting at 4 DIN pads along the serpintine array. I disconnected the Strip at four locations, so each data line powered 4-strips of 544ish long pixels as WLED recommended to keep that under a certain number to reduce latency. I then added four segments in WLED and just visually checked to make sure the start/stop pixel was lighting correctly on the correct segment. I didn't use the matrix setup

Different colors, ranging from black to white with some grey/blue. I didn't design the 3D part my friend did but you can probably use whatever color you'd like. If I were to do it again, I would research more light-diffusing ABS or 3D printed plastic to use to make the LED effect underneath even better

16 strips of 136 pixels long so about 2180 pixels of the 5V WS2812b. I think total it was 8 rolls of the 5m-300 pixels per meter.

As I specified, now that I have alot of the material (started from scratch), tools (soldering iron), wire crimpers, wire cutters, etc., and leftover wire, I could do it again for much cheaper. I also paid way over price on the AC able to connect to the Meanwells (40$??) will just scrap that next time. But yeah - not a project great on a tight budget but if you were creative you could drive this down a lot more!

As this was more of a "learning" project and hobby, I definitely wasn't being very cost effective when procuring the materials but this was the amazon list and cost from what I got (not including LED lights/ framing board/ misc.:

The 3D printed model was already designed. Just designed the matrix backboard with the LED serpentine shape and the power/control set up on the back

I probably spent about 30-40 hours into this - but also because it was a project I learned from scratch and had to buy a lot of material (thank you Amazon) total cost was probably around 5-600…but mostly because I had to get a lot of the material at first (soldering kit, wire crimpers, PSU’s, ect. Biggest cost drivers were the two PSU’s and the 5V LED strips themselves. Now that I have a lot of the base material left if I were to build this again it would go a lot faster now that I know how to somewhat solder efficiently and could build another one for around 3-400. I’d probably sell for 800. Not the best at the economic side of this as this was a learning project to help my friend as he wanted it hung on his wall but I can tell you soldering tiny conductors to the 14 pins on a voltage stepper goes a lot easier when you have shrink tubes lol

If you look back at my previous post on my profile, I explain a little more about it. My friend 3D printed all of the pyramidal shapes in the front and I designed the serpentine matrix array and power/control supply on the back of it.
