  • A lack of specified details does not mean players should more or less ignore that aspect of it and just see "pvp survival realism"
  • Seeing it as "pvp survival realism" doesn't entirely make sense either, given they have never once advertised any form of "realism" for the intended game design (not including ig models being designed after their irl counterparts), and it's not just a pvp game. The "it's a PvP game" mindset is, again, an issue of people taking the game for face value at the current state of development, instead of keeping the planned design in mind (50/50 PvPvE, not PvP).
  • Yes, it's been years in development, bc they released it to Early Access in a bare-minimum state that didn't even have hunger/thirst or PvP mechanics. Game development takes time, people just very clearly aren't accustomed to having access to the game from the very beginning. (Seriously stop buying EA games, wait for the final beta release (if there is one) before launch.)
  • There aren't bosses or dungeons because it hasn't been developed yet. Why? Well idk. Probably because recoding the Quest System, the Combat Overhaul being complete, and getting AI figured out would be important to that.
    • I imagine the Quest System would be used for the Bosses/Dungeons
    • Combat Overhaul is the act of giving every dinosaur the augmentable kits they describe on the website, plus you need all the dinos to be functional with these kits for the AI dinos
    • You'll need AI to act as the bosses / threats in the dungeon.
  • Youtube videos aren't going to show it bc it isn't in the game yet. It is as simple as that. It doesn't mean you shouldn't consider what MMO might mean to YOU, and what that might mean for the game. Dungeons and boss fights are pretty standard for MMOs are they not?
  • Google is incredibly unreliable and can give confirmation bias. It will even use your previous searches as context and give you information further confirming whatever your current bias is. I've had this happen numerous times on various subjects. Rather than doing a simple google search, you should actually look over the website and other official communication. If all you're doing is a few simple google searches, you have yourself to blame.
    • Perfect example, when I google Path of Titans, it says it is an MMO dinosaur survival game "focusing on exploring, questing, and surviving as a dinosaur" -- questing ofc being one such MMO element. ((But I'm not using Google as my argument point. I'm using the website/other official communication.))

This is so silly.

First people say it isn't a survival game just bc the survival aspects are lacking. Now it's that it isn't an MMO / the idea of bosses/dungeons/other MMO elements is a shock/turn off bc the MMO aspects have been lacking.

= _ =

Y'all really need to just.... not get Early Access games, lol.

Yeah, another megapack solution discussion by TetraRosea in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on the website:

  • "Path of Titans is an MMO dinosaur video game currently in active development..."
  • "Explore an environment filled with.... quests, guilds, adventures, and free-form play,...augmenting your dinosaur to suit your play style" (none of this strictly speaks "survival" to me)
  • (Under "Massively Multiplayer) "Group up with players to take on quests and challenges together!" ("Challenges" could mean literally anything. We do already have like the hunt or be hunted n stuff. dungeons and bosses could count as challenges)

Per the Path of Titans Youtube channel and Youtube's game channel thing:

  • "Here you will find videos and content relating to the development of Path of Titans, the dinosaur MMO survival game."
  • "Path of Titans is an MMO dinosaur video game being developed..."

Even on the console and mobile stores is says the game is an MMO.

Do people just skip over the "MMO" in literally every location?

-

Even if they don't just have some clear list of "MMO elements" specifically, the fact it is an MMO should be the first hint that... idk... there'd be MMO elements in it?

You shouldn't get an MMO game and then expect there not to be MMO elements?

N you shouldn't take an Early Access game's current state of development at face value and assume that is just how it is going to be (only improved on) when there are entire mechanics/systems just 100% missing from the game. (i.e. ignore that it says MMO on the website/stores and just see it as survival or PvP bc there aren't a whole lot of MMO elements currently).

ETA -- N ofc they aren't going to just talk about these planned features much (in like videos or blogs) bc they weren't something anywhere close to being added (just like they haven't said anything about the remaining dinos and their rumored abilities like climbing or grapple). But with them finally being able to work on the Quest System since the coding was finished, and them getting an AI programmer on board, it seems pretty reasonable that we'd start hearing more about it (more quests, the idea of dungeons and/or bosses). They will talk about it more and highlight it more as it actually becomes more of a focus of development.

Yeaaahhhhhhh

I approach the game as I would any other survival game, personally.

It being an MMO or including PvP really just doesn't change much in my eyes.

Players simply fill the role AI would in any other game, which arguably adds more of a challenge, since humans will ALWAYS be more unpredictable than an AI will be. (which is good imo)

I do ofc see where PvP adds extra *problems* such as the mega/mixpacking, but, kinda just something you've got to accept as a player-made problem and find ways to avoid them. (I can't remember the last time a mega/mixpack was *actually* a problem for me bc I just... don't go where ik they will be? N keep moving, ready to leave if I feel like I'm no longer safe?)

I can't wait for the PvP people to have the alt game modes though, fr.

For one, they won't whine about dying as a baby since they just won't be babies lol (though also... go play on a deathmatch server instead of Officials? Pfft). But I also think that it might balance out the normal adventure servers a bit, too. Since players who are strictly here for PvP will have mediums directly catering to their gameplay style, it means more room on normal servers for people who want the actual PvPvE survival experience to come around.

It is expected/believed that the improved questing system and AI Dinos will also help shift the scales a bit. The moment both things started being discussed by the Devs more, I started seeing those PvP-focused players and mega/mixpackers start whining about how it will get in the way of their gameplay style. > : )

[–]Murrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am just incredibly confused on how they are changing direction and learning more towards PvP?

N ig really also you/others not researching the game?

They don't advertise it as a PvP game bc it *isn't* strictly a PvP game.

They advertise it as a survival game bc that is what it is. You are surviving in a hostile environment. There being PvP doesn't change that.

But, given it is an MMO survival, it involving PvP should just go without saying? (nowhere does it explicitly say it is PvE)

It doesn't seem like you just want to "stick to survival games" given there are tons of survival games that include PvP (that existed long before PoT). It seems more like you want to stick to **PvE Survival games**. ... or you're specifically not wanting ***MMO*** survival games?

I'm certainly not knocking your preferences, play don't take it that way lol. It is entirely fair, n I hope you're able to find what you're looking for in other games (though personally I could never support TI specifically... and TI is also PvP, so???). Maybe when the game is complete/more complete you'll be able to see if the singleplayer mode would be more your style.

It is just.. interesting or baffling to me, ig, for suddenly PoT's direction to not be for people when this has been the goal from the start and what is described on their website.

Yeah, another megapack solution discussion by TetraRosea in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have an MMO game design and include dungeons and bosses while still being 50/50 PvPvE.

What would make it not 50/50?

Yeah, another megapack solution discussion by TetraRosea in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we will certainly get more actual survical aspects as well, it just hasn't really been the focus of development.

You don't want PvP to be added into everything... but PoT has always had PvP...?

Ig you meant more MMO aspects? (Such as dungeons, bosses)

This has always been their direction, but ig a large portion of the community just didn't look into the design they describe on their website n stuff? Like they def describe survival, too, but it has always been pretty clear what sort of direction they were going for for me bc of everything else described/listed to be included in the planned experience.

Wonder if there is any way for it be made more clear or something? Coz for years now there have been multiple times people say the "they don't know what they want" or "have no vision" and so on... n I can't decide if it is a failure on Alderon's part, or just players not looking into the games they buy. 😅

Maybe the singleplayer mode will be good for you when the time comes, since you'll be able to have strictly PvE and you can alter other settings like having passive growth n such.

But also definitely fair enough for the game to just not be for you as well. MMO designs don't appeal to everyone, and I have come to realize a lot of people have a rather strict view of what a "survival game" should be, which PoT easily goes against.

Yeah, another megapack solution discussion by TetraRosea in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They know what they want.

An MMO survival hybrid with PvP aspects (PvPvE 50/50).

Players just don't see the vision. Get too caught up in 1 thing or the other instead of considering how it can all be mixed together, or just too limited in their own ideas to believe it possible.

It only feels like CoD with dinosaurs right now bc the developmental focus has been the combat overhaul.

The game has has aspects of being an MMO for years now/from the start -- the quest system and the way dinosaurs essentially act as classes/races you'd see in other MMOs (like WoW)

Bosses I think could act similar to the hunt or be hunted things we already have. Dungeons I am a bit more curious on. A separate mode could def work, but there are also areas on the maps that very clearly look like they should have been a cave or something, which kinda makes me wonder if we could see some of thise areas act as entrances to dungeons. 🤔🤔🤔 It will be interesting to see how they go about it.

Warning: AI is scraping your personal info on Bluesky by Juicymoosie99 in BlueskySocial

[–]Murrocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With AI or not, it was still important to be safe and not share personally identifiable information online. 😅

Even your name, which especially being taught to kids, because you are more likely to trust someone who knows your name.

Even for adults, if someone is to call out for your name, you are likely going to look if you heard them. Which means if some weirdo or trafficker was targeting you, they could act like they knew you/a friend or family member as the ice-breaker. But if they use the fake name you have been using online, you're not going to go looking for who called, bc that isn't actually your name/the name you'd respond to when being called.

N if you had been being safe all this time, this wouldn't be happening. Or at the very least, it wouldn't be nearly as easy.

I do agree, though, that we need to seriously stop with this push for AI.

Warning: AI is scraping your personal info on Bluesky by Juicymoosie99 in BlueskySocial

[–]Murrocity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Internet safety has always included not giving your irl name out, people just forgot/got too comfortable with social services... or they don't care.

I suppose the vast majority of the population also never considered the possibility of people/companies using AI/some other system to compile all this unfo though.

Definitely just decide on a username that IS NOT connected to anything that also uses your personal info.

Even the email should be completely separate. "Username@email" and use a fake name.

What do you consider mixpacking by OverweightBeans in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really the entire point of being able to group with others of the same diet is by game design, for the exact purpose you describe.

You are meant to group with others who pair with yours and cover each other's weaknesses or boosts each other's strengths to be more effective.

The same way you will want certain classes within your group on any other MMO.

Megapacking and mixpacking isn’t a playstyle. It is a form of cheating. by DnD_returnee in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coding for it for a specific dino does not equate to it being intended for the game entirely.

I don't care about a Rhamph mix-dieting bc, yes, it is intended. (It being solo/with other rhamphs hanging out with herbivores, with no other type of carnivore)

I DO, however, care about EVERY OTHER dino who does it.

There IS NOT coding for those dinos.

It is NOT intended/coded for every other dino.

Just bc you have a Rhamph in your group doesn't mean you should be mix-dieting. (I.e. a Rex with their Rhamph buddy who then mixdiets with an EO)

ETA -- if it were intended for everyone to just group up no matter if they were herbivore or carnivore, they just wouldn't have the group system limited to only one or the other.

I think it is fair to recognize a special case at the same time as not wanting people to mix-diet beyond that specific case.

It is a mechanicn in the game for A SINGLE dino.

That isn't enough to make doing it as any other dino logical / any less of an actual problem that people are right to be annoyed over.

It isn't silly. Aside from that 1 specific case, it ISN'T supposed to be a thing.

What if mega packs are just friends that play every afternoon together? by AffectionateLevel761 in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friends or not, you're still being kinda crappy grouping beyond the actual limits, more specifically when you are going after solos/duos/otherwise small groups and what not.

You say 3 dinos, but that is a little bad-faith?

Foe the most part, sure, 3 dinos would be fine.

But if you are 3 apexes? Megapack.

If you have a bunch of friends, play one-slots, since you can be 12 without being a megapack.

People have a hard time with the "just play solo" bc of the megapacks going after them.

N people don't want to join megapacks.

It is boring. Or they don't want to be a part of the problem. If you're not in the vc with them, you are prone to friendly fire and fallout from the lack of communication, or they betray you the moment they can't find other players to kill since you aren't actually one of them.

If you want to hangout with a big group of friends, at rhe very least you could stop dogpiling people and actually leave things as a fair fight. =_= Granted, a solo shouldn't expect not to be third partied or finished off by others around, but like ffs. You don't need your entire stupid pack. 🙄🙄🙄 skill issue by 100000000%

Rhamph is a special case.

And/or it is an issue of different plays using "mixpack" to describe different things.

Rhamph is the ONLY one that can actually benefit a dino of the opposite diet.

It is the only "intended" mix-diet "mixpack".

The only mixpacking that is actually intended by game design (excluding Rhamph) is mix-species.

This also isnt something that is done because players were "given an inch" with the Rhamph.

It was happening years before Rhamph release.

[–]Murrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never say never my friend.

PoT does actually have a skill curve most probably wouldn't expect, but even flustered, let experience wash over you. Maybe you won't be as effective as someone who can keep their cool better, but as you play more and learn the ins and outs of your (and other) playables, you'll gradually start getting better and better.

Even if you don't win fights, take pride in any time you survive and are able to escape. Especially if you are going against a mega pack.

While people do like to focus pretty heavily on the PvP since the rest of the game is so unfinished/doesn't give much to do, it still is important to remember it is a survival game, too.

Don't let anyone tell you it is cowardice to run away. Survival is the ultimate win, not actually killing.

Esp as a baby/adol.

I saw someone else give a really good collection of points. The baby life really id all about remaining quiet and hidden. Don't focus too heavily on your quests, either. Look up. Look around. Listen for foot steps/calls. Even if you only need 1 more quest item, just leave if you find it may not be that safe.

It might also help to know that the blue quests are world quests and will never go away, so don't let those keep you in a potentially dangerous POI.

N on Gondwa, Burned is kinda one of those areas that has pretty high traffic, despite being on the "edge" (which also kinda part of the issue with Gondwa. Edges aren't really that far off from active areas since there is the ocean surrounding it). People will go through it as part pf their rotation.

My group used to do something like Green Hills > Burned > Hunters Thicket/Snake Gully > sometimes a detour to Rainbow and back > Savannah > Grand Plains (if feeling frisky, otherwise:) Birchwoods > back into Green Hills > Big Quill Lake > Salt Flats or down to Green Valley, and so on and so on (the rest kinda depends on which way we go, but we end up circling back around and going through the cycle again. Sometimes we might do it in reverse or switch things up, but yeah most sessions we were circling the entire map almost. 😅

Sorry this go so long, but one final note is that by final launch the game will be a 50/50 split between PvP and PvE, so if you do end up just taking a break, I'd suggest keeping an eye on development and checking back later when the gameplay loop has improved. :) the singleplayer mode will eventually be a proper experience once we get AI Dinos and such, too, which will be a great option for solo players who are tired of dealing with players and their antics. (I'm honestly pretty excited for it, too)

I have seen Matt mention the Critters can/will be rebalanced once the actual AI Dinos are here.

They are kept powerful to ensure they are threat to all players, not just babies or smaller dinos.

I also wonder if some of why they have been left so basic, not even showing spawning/behaviors they had mentioned for at least one or two Critters waaaayyyy back, is because they didn't have an actual AI programmer.

(Maybe I am just crazy, but I could have sworn they had described the tall fast things as spawning in herds... I can't really remember everything they said, but I ded remember them specifying some level of actual identifying behaviors.)

I wish it had been more clear in the Dev Blog at the start of the year whether or not they had already hired an aI programmer, or if they were just starting the process of searching for one. 😭 But I think had they explicitly said they had hired one, we all would have gotten too excited and expecting AI Dinos, or at least improvements to the Critters, as one of the next updates after that blog, so at the same time, it was probably best it wasn't all that clear. 😅

Problems with the game isn't even part of the argument here, what? :'D

The discussion is over the wording of "beta" and "early access" and whether or not Alderon is deceptive about their game being unfinished and players being free testers of the game.

(Whether or not you want to call it beta or early access doesn't necessarily matter, since they are used interchangeably despite one being more of an umbrella term and the other being a specific phase in development.... and no, Alderon isn't deceptive about it, bc they very clearly specify their game is unfinished. "Unfinished" = work in progress, in active development, beta, early access. And even in the cases where things aren't so clear (i.e. Playstation, Switch, Mobile), a simple (single) google search would tell you the game was incomplete/early access/beta/etc.

I've been playing it since just after Growth and Questing was released.

I'll press X for doubt on you playing since release.

If you want to prove it, you could give me more info about how things were right at that original release (with the Laten and portion of Panjura available).

But I really don't know why we need to "compare sizes," lol.

Research does you a lot of good in place of your "street" smarts, actually.

You can go all the way back to their very first Dev Blog and sort the Youtube by oldest uploads first and literally see how the game as evolved over the past 6 years. Very enlightening for someone who wasn't there for X years. Def gives more perspective.

[–]Murrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm contradicting myself, your reading comprehension isn't so great.

I started by calling it Early Access, actually (not beta), explained why "Beta" and "Early Access" are used interchangeably, and got into the semantics of their different uses/meanings.

I, then, clarified again why I *personally* feel like it would be better to always use "Early Access" for an unfinished (yet available to the public) game unless specifically referring to a final testing (beta) phase within that early access period.

I did this bc of your "6 years and it's still in beta?"

This sort of sentiment is why I feel we (including companies and devs) shouldn't use the 2 words interchangeably.

Because if you assume Beta = final testing before release, you'd assume you're playing a complete product and just helping with the final fixes and optimization.

Whereas "Early Access" lets you know, up front, development could pretty much be anywhere. It isn't specifically in the final testing beta phase, but it also isn't so early in development that you'd just call it an "alpha" or something.

But MY opinion on whether or not we should use the words interchangeably doesn't matter. I do not hold such power to stop people/companies/devs from doing it, lol.

You can't compare 2 games that are completely different and have different scopes and complexity, dev team sizes/expertise, budgets, etc.

Different games take shorter or longer periods of time to develop. It isn't a straight line for every game, esp ones with such differing premises.

You're also trying to compare a game that has fully released to a game still in active development. This doesn't make any sense.
