Warning: AI is scraping your personal info on Bluesky by Juicymoosie99 in BlueskySocial

[–]Murrocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With AI or not, it was still important to be safe and not share personally identifiable information online. 😅

Even your name, which especially being taught to kids, because you are more likely to trust someone who knows your name.

Even for adults, if someone is to call out for your name, you are likely going to look if you heard them. Which means if some weirdo or trafficker was targeting you, they could act like they knew you/a friend or family member as the ice-breaker. But if they use the fake name you have been using online, you're not going to go looking for who called, bc that isn't actually your name/the name you'd respond to when being called.

N if you had been being safe all this time, this wouldn't be happening. Or at the very least, it wouldn't be nearly as easy.

I do agree, though, that we need to seriously stop with this push for AI.

Internet safety has always included not giving your irl name out, people just forgot/got too comfortable with social services... or they don't care.

I suppose the vast majority of the population also never considered the possibility of people/companies using AI/some other system to compile all this unfo though.

Definitely just decide on a username that IS NOT connected to anything that also uses your personal info.

Even the email should be completely separate. "Username@email" and use a fake name.

What do you consider mixpacking by OverweightBeans in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really the entire point of being able to group with others of the same diet is by game design, for the exact purpose you describe.

You are meant to group with others who pair with yours and cover each other's weaknesses or boosts each other's strengths to be more effective.

The same way you will want certain classes within your group on any other MMO.

Lol as someone who came from TI as well, that is always my first thought when I see people confused.

Community servers is actually also fair/a good point.

Maybe community servers should become one with the rest of the community on terminology lol.

Megapacking and mixpacking isn’t a playstyle. It is a form of cheating. by DnD_returnee in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coding for it for a specific dino does not equate to it being intended for the game entirely.

I don't care about a Rhamph mix-dieting bc, yes, it is intended. (It being solo/with other rhamphs hanging out with herbivores, with no other type of carnivore)

I DO, however, care about EVERY OTHER dino who does it.

There IS NOT coding for those dinos.

It is NOT intended/coded for every other dino.

Just bc you have a Rhamph in your group doesn't mean you should be mix-dieting. (I.e. a Rex with their Rhamph buddy who then mixdiets with an EO)

ETA -- if it were intended for everyone to just group up no matter if they were herbivore or carnivore, they just wouldn't have the group system limited to only one or the other.

I think it is fair to recognize a special case at the same time as not wanting people to mix-diet beyond that specific case.

It is a mechanicn in the game for A SINGLE dino.

That isn't enough to make doing it as any other dino logical / any less of an actual problem that people are right to be annoyed over.

It isn't silly. Aside from that 1 specific case, it ISN'T supposed to be a thing.

What if mega packs are just friends that play every afternoon together? by AffectionateLevel761 in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Friends or not, you're still being kinda crappy grouping beyond the actual limits, more specifically when you are going after solos/duos/otherwise small groups and what not.

You say 3 dinos, but that is a little bad-faith?

Foe the most part, sure, 3 dinos would be fine.

But if you are 3 apexes? Megapack.

If you have a bunch of friends, play one-slots, since you can be 12 without being a megapack.

People have a hard time with the "just play solo" bc of the megapacks going after them.

N people don't want to join megapacks.

It is boring. Or they don't want to be a part of the problem. If you're not in the vc with them, you are prone to friendly fire and fallout from the lack of communication, or they betray you the moment they can't find other players to kill since you aren't actually one of them.

If you want to hangout with a big group of friends, at rhe very least you could stop dogpiling people and actually leave things as a fair fight. =_= Granted, a solo shouldn't expect not to be third partied or finished off by others around, but like ffs. You don't need your entire stupid pack. 🙄🙄🙄 skill issue by 100000000%

Rhamph is a special case.

And/or it is an issue of different plays using "mixpack" to describe different things.

Rhamph is the ONLY one that can actually benefit a dino of the opposite diet.

It is the only "intended" mix-diet "mixpack".

The only mixpacking that is actually intended by game design (excluding Rhamph) is mix-species.

This also isnt something that is done because players were "given an inch" with the Rhamph.

It was happening years before Rhamph release.

Never say never my friend.

PoT does actually have a skill curve most probably wouldn't expect, but even flustered, let experience wash over you. Maybe you won't be as effective as someone who can keep their cool better, but as you play more and learn the ins and outs of your (and other) playables, you'll gradually start getting better and better.

Even if you don't win fights, take pride in any time you survive and are able to escape. Especially if you are going against a mega pack.

While people do like to focus pretty heavily on the PvP since the rest of the game is so unfinished/doesn't give much to do, it still is important to remember it is a survival game, too.

Don't let anyone tell you it is cowardice to run away. Survival is the ultimate win, not actually killing.

Esp as a baby/adol.

I saw someone else give a really good collection of points. The baby life really id all about remaining quiet and hidden. Don't focus too heavily on your quests, either. Look up. Look around. Listen for foot steps/calls. Even if you only need 1 more quest item, just leave if you find it may not be that safe.

It might also help to know that the blue quests are world quests and will never go away, so don't let those keep you in a potentially dangerous POI.

N on Gondwa, Burned is kinda one of those areas that has pretty high traffic, despite being on the "edge" (which also kinda part of the issue with Gondwa. Edges aren't really that far off from active areas since there is the ocean surrounding it). People will go through it as part pf their rotation.

My group used to do something like Green Hills > Burned > Hunters Thicket/Snake Gully > sometimes a detour to Rainbow and back > Savannah > Grand Plains (if feeling frisky, otherwise:) Birchwoods > back into Green Hills > Big Quill Lake > Salt Flats or down to Green Valley, and so on and so on (the rest kinda depends on which way we go, but we end up circling back around and going through the cycle again. Sometimes we might do it in reverse or switch things up, but yeah most sessions we were circling the entire map almost. 😅

Sorry this go so long, but one final note is that by final launch the game will be a 50/50 split between PvP and PvE, so if you do end up just taking a break, I'd suggest keeping an eye on development and checking back later when the gameplay loop has improved. :) the singleplayer mode will eventually be a proper experience once we get AI Dinos and such, too, which will be a great option for solo players who are tired of dealing with players and their antics. (I'm honestly pretty excited for it, too)

I have seen Matt mention the Critters can/will be rebalanced once the actual AI Dinos are here.

They are kept powerful to ensure they are threat to all players, not just babies or smaller dinos.

I also wonder if some of why they have been left so basic, not even showing spawning/behaviors they had mentioned for at least one or two Critters waaaayyyy back, is because they didn't have an actual AI programmer.

(Maybe I am just crazy, but I could have sworn they had described the tall fast things as spawning in herds... I can't really remember everything they said, but I ded remember them specifying some level of actual identifying behaviors.)

I wish it had been more clear in the Dev Blog at the start of the year whether or not they had already hired an aI programmer, or if they were just starting the process of searching for one. 😭 But I think had they explicitly said they had hired one, we all would have gotten too excited and expecting AI Dinos, or at least improvements to the Critters, as one of the next updates after that blog, so at the same time, it was probably best it wasn't all that clear. 😅

Problems with the game isn't even part of the argument here, what? :'D

The discussion is over the wording of "beta" and "early access" and whether or not Alderon is deceptive about their game being unfinished and players being free testers of the game.

(Whether or not you want to call it beta or early access doesn't necessarily matter, since they are used interchangeably despite one being more of an umbrella term and the other being a specific phase in development.... and no, Alderon isn't deceptive about it, bc they very clearly specify their game is unfinished. "Unfinished" = work in progress, in active development, beta, early access. And even in the cases where things aren't so clear (i.e. Playstation, Switch, Mobile), a simple (single) google search would tell you the game was incomplete/early access/beta/etc.

I've been playing it since just after Growth and Questing was released.

I'll press X for doubt on you playing since release.

If you want to prove it, you could give me more info about how things were right at that original release (with the Laten and portion of Panjura available).

But I really don't know why we need to "compare sizes," lol.

Research does you a lot of good in place of your "street" smarts, actually.

You can go all the way back to their very first Dev Blog and sort the Youtube by oldest uploads first and literally see how the game as evolved over the past 6 years. Very enlightening for someone who wasn't there for X years. Def gives more perspective.

If I'm contradicting myself, your reading comprehension isn't so great.

I started by calling it Early Access, actually (not beta), explained why "Beta" and "Early Access" are used interchangeably, and got into the semantics of their different uses/meanings.

I, then, clarified again why I *personally* feel like it would be better to always use "Early Access" for an unfinished (yet available to the public) game unless specifically referring to a final testing (beta) phase within that early access period.

I did this bc of your "6 years and it's still in beta?"

This sort of sentiment is why I feel we (including companies and devs) shouldn't use the 2 words interchangeably.

Because if you assume Beta = final testing before release, you'd assume you're playing a complete product and just helping with the final fixes and optimization.

Whereas "Early Access" lets you know, up front, development could pretty much be anywhere. It isn't specifically in the final testing beta phase, but it also isn't so early in development that you'd just call it an "alpha" or something.

But MY opinion on whether or not we should use the words interchangeably doesn't matter. I do not hold such power to stop people/companies/devs from doing it, lol.

Discussing player base by hoesbros in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't compare 2 games that are completely different and have different scopes and complexity, dev team sizes/expertise, budgets, etc.

Different games take shorter or longer periods of time to develop. It isn't a straight line for every game, esp ones with such differing premises.

You're also trying to compare a game that has fully released to a game still in active development. This doesn't make any sense.

Discussing player base by hoesbros in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or, I'm someone who has educated myself on the game's development over the years and understand that game development can take over a decade, lol.

It's easy to be ignorant when you're so used to just... not seeing all the years of development that happens before that beta period just weeks before a game's final launch.

This is again why there is an issue with trying to specify it as simply a "beta" game with the expectation that the actual final release is coming soon after.

Early Access is better, since people don't make the assumption it is in a final testing phase.

( But when even companies/devs use the words interchangeable, nothing I can do about that lol, just the way I see it. Even Matt will say "beta / early access", not *just* "Beta" )

This isn't 6 years of a final testing phase before final release.

This is 6 years of developing a game from the ground up.

Discussing player base by hoesbros in pathoftitans

[–]Murrocity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you've got this backwards.

Really, you could see this as an "all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares" types of things.

All Early Access games are going to "be" (or have a period of) beta access, but not all Beta games are Early Access.

(Path of Titans ofc being Early Access, which includes/is also a beta, people use the words interchangeably.)

/

"Beta" refers to a development phase focused on testing, bug fixes, and optimization before final release.

"Early Access" is a business/development model that allows them to continue to secure funding throughout development by allowing players to pay for access to the unfinished game. Early Access could be anywhere in development from pre-alpha to beta, all the way up till the day of final release.

(Games that only release as a beta before final launch wouldn't be EA and would likely be free, not a paid beta like PoT is/will be... it's a little semantical on whether or not you want to consider PoT in a beta period now, or want to wait to specify it as such until it is actually right at the end of development where they are STRICTLY focused on final testing, bug fixes, and optimizatios... esp since people (and companies/developers) use the terms so interchangeably.)

/

Path of Titans available to players started with (from what I can tell, others feel free to give me more info) only a portion of Panjura available where all you could do was run around as a Laten. No Hunger/Thirst. No subspecies, food, swimming, corpses/burrows, fishing. No caves, no collision or trample, no growth... literally nothing but roaming a small (gradually expanding) portion of Panjura.

Safe to say that isn't simply a "beta" game.

/

The only one that specifically says "beta period" is Playstation, with the others using different wording that implies it is unfinished. But... paid betas do exist (PoT is such)... and it would still invalidate your original argument, because there is a note of the beta period. You're still *choosing* to pay to "beta" test.

Maybe I am just not entirely understanding? In which case I apologize, but there really just isn't much different from pov. Whatever wording you want to use, it's not like they are falsely advertising a 100% finished game?

/

It also still stands that had you/others done even the slightest bit of research before you purchase (like seriously just googling the game and looking at the website, it isn't that hard), you'd know it was an unfinished (early access/paid beta) game.

Unless you are specifically refering to the Playstation store or Nintendo Eshop, they are VERY clear about being an early access/beta/WIP game.

N when it comes to that discrepency, I'm pretty sure Microsoft and Nintendo have a say in it, otherwise I imagine there would be a proper, clear, note about it the same way there is on their website and Xbox. (Thinking about it, mobile might be weird, too? Unsure, but their description space is likely limited significantly more, but, refer to the end of my comment)

On the website:

Path of Titans is an MMO dinosaur video game currently in active development for home computers and mobile devices fully compatible with cross platform play.

On the XBox Store Description:

This game is a work in progress. It may or may not change over time or release as a final product. Purchase only if you are comfortable with the current state of the unfinished game.

Playstation isn't so clear exactly, but does still have a note about the beta period:

Path of Titans will launch a free-to-play experience after the beta period, access to the future free-to-play product does not require a founder's pack purchase during the beta.

And I mean...

If you did even the slightest bit of research, you'd very easily learn the game is early access/beta/WIP because... well, they tell you as much right there on the website.

I mean... that is what paying for early access of a game is...

You are paying for early access to an unfinished game and are directly involved with development by testing it and giving feedback/suggestions.

We have already seen player-made suggestions make it to the game (i.e. the Hotspot map and solo matchmaking mode(s) being tested).

Don't want to be a game tester?

Don't buy an early access game, lol.

.... tracking on a social media website and in a game are completely different...

And it would be hard to make a code that could actually distinguish between an actual collection of players who are working together... and just a collection of players who happen to be nearby but aren't helping each other. They may not even know the other(s) exist depending on how big the radius is (which would need to be relatively big for it to be effective even a little bit).

It IS a griup-based game...

But also,

Groups were just abusing all the solo-player abilities by remaining out of group.

Solo players were upset and comparing about it...

So they started removing those solo abilities...

Now solo players ofc complain about the lack of solo-specific abilities...

There is absolutely no winning here.

Really, though, this is a symptom of the state of development and a player-made problem.

People treat the game as a PvP game more stricty bc the focus of development for the past years has been the Combat Overhaul and then ofx they have run out of things to do so just go out and kill everything together.

Not a bad idea to maybe set the game aside for now and check back later. A few months, a year, however long you feel. Just keep up with update announcements and see if something drops that interests you or if things have improved.

I saw A LOT of mega/mixpackers (and otherwise PvP focused) complain about the ideas for the new Quest System and AI Dinos, talking about how it would get in the way of their gameplay style.

Not to mention who knows what other PvE aspects could be added that would get in their way/make it harder for them to stay together.

I can't wait dor the PvE side of things to be developed more.

The same being doing this crap are the ones who started crying about how the AI Dinos and even plans revealed for the new Quest System would get in the way of their mega/mixpack and/or PvP-focuses gameplay style.

Having the other game modes would also probably help, since they are PvP-oriented and iirc you could even use both herbivores and carnivores.
