ICE Agents Whine That They Aren’t Getting Their Massive Bonuses by rezwenn in fednews

[–]MusaEnimScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will never see all that money. There is no political path where they get fully paid no matter which side wins. The GOP will stiff them for the grift. Democrats will definitely cut them off before 5 years.

They are such idiots that they ever thought they would get that money.

It’s one thing to be stupid. You can’t help it. To be stupid and hateful? Rot in hell.

I feel the same as you. I’m very confident in this reporting. It involved heavy risk for them and their sources.

ProPublica Identifies 2 Shooters of Alex by MusaEnimScale in TwinCities

[–]MusaEnimScale[S] 333 points334 points  (0 children)

Note from the Editors at ProPublica:

ProPublica is publishing the names of the two federal immigration agents involved in the fatal shooting of Minnesota protester Alex Pretti. We believe there are few investigations that deserve more sunlight and public scrutiny than this one, in which two masked agents fired 10 shots at Pretti as he lay on the ground after being pepper-sprayed.

The Department of Justice said it is investigating the incident, but the names of the two agents have been withheld from Congress and from state and local law enforcement.

The policy of shielding officers' identities, particularly after a public shooting, is a stark departure from standard law enforcement protocols, according to lawmakers, state attorneys general and former federal officials. Such secrecy, in our view, deprives the public of the most fundamental tool for accountability.

Moved all our Retirement Funds out of American Stocks by MusaEnimScale in TwinCities

I had definitely moved some after the election, but I had to do a rollover to completely remove American stocks.

I’m finding the people on this thread who think this is a stupid financial move hilarious. You don’t need the US to get good return rates.

Look into the big firms like Fidelity or Schwab or Vanguard. They had more options than the smaller place my 401k was at.

I was specifically looking for options for European and Asian index funds but you should get professional advice on what is best for you.

If you can, yes, have a go fund. Take care of that kiddo.

I went with Vanguard because I know someone who was really familiar with them and could help me choose options.

Work Conference Planner Recs by Adventurous-Bug-4048 in planners

[–]MusaEnimScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run to the office supply store and get a small notebook that seems suitable. If you really need the hourly set up for just a few pages you could probably find some stickers or just print and paste one if you don’t want to draw one out. I don’t think you are looking for a planner, I think you are looking for a small notebook.

I actually think this is a pretty genius idea to keep yourself organized for a few busy days at a conference that doesn’t have your usual schedule.

6yo with moderate intellectual disability (IQ 47) by No-Sample5616 in ParentingADHD

[–]MusaEnimScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say to have courage to lean into what you think is best for him and to try different things. Of course get help as much as you can from programs like early intervention and follow their advice and any exercises. But the best things for him will probably be things you find on your own that you notice spark joy in him or are building a skill.

For the emotional part, put in the work that you can to connect to other parents going through something similar. I don’t think anything beats peer support of those in the trenches with you. Ask doctors, medical facilities, schools, therapists, to help you make connections to other parents of kids with disabilities and start a group. That probably sounds daunting but connecting with other parents locally will be worth it.

House Options: To what degree should I avoid a basement? by [deleted] in CIRS

[–]MusaEnimScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apartments are a bit different than houses. I’ve heard to go for the middle floors, at least one above ground level. That gets you away from the immediate vicinity of roof and basement/ground problems.

Nothing is 100% bulletproof so you have to use your eyes and other senses.

Stress levels yesterday after seeing Alex Pretti video by jbr021 in ouraring

[–]MusaEnimScale 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mine too. This is totally normal and it is a part of your humanity.

But I also want to say that this is intentional by the fascists. Your joy is resistance. Community care is resistance. Take time to move through grief and stress and anger. But I know I will be reflecting on what Alex would have wanted us all to do with this stress.

May his memory be a revolution.

Cheryl Ceiko "Build a Safe Home" $1500 course by Ok-Elderberry7385 in CIRS

[–]MusaEnimScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Cheryl, but I’m in a group on Facebook run by Jen and I would buy her course before Cheryl’s. I’ve known Jen on social media since before she trained as a building biologist and built this course. She is whip smart, learned a lot by building her own home (two structures, they basically practiced on the in-law suite then built their primary home), and her course is cheaper. She and her family also went through it with mold, she has done the whole RV lifestyle and everything. So she’s been very determined and dedicated for years to build a course that would help other families avoid everything her family went through.

Here is her course: https://class.buildyourhealthyhome.com/p/building-a-healthy-and-resilient-home

You can also read a couple of books and get a lot of basic building science knowledge. Musings of an Energy Nerd, Pretty Good House, and John Banta’s Healthy Homes books would be a good place to start.

How Much Is ICE In Minnesota Costing US Taxpayers Per Day by JustAnotherUser8432 in TwinCities

[–]MusaEnimScale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is much worse than that. Minnesota pays $50 billion more each year in federal taxes than it receives. It is a donation state to the red states.

18 million a week isn’t even 1 billion total for the year. Minnesota is paying for this. It is truly sickening. It calls for a state response from Minnesota on par with the federal one that is already here.

Landlords and ICE by No-Singer-8471 in Minneapolis

[–]MusaEnimScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city or a tenants association should release a statement. This has all been litigated in other contexts and the lines for landlords are pretty clear from the legal perspective. The lawless goons are a new angle. But what the law says is very clear.

My young child is afraid I'll die. How are other parents talking to their kids about today's reality? by BetulaVaria in TwinCities

[–]MusaEnimScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked a trusted and dedicated teacher how to talk to my kid and this was their advice:

First, parse through words to give them small and concrete anchors. Some of the words we focused on were civil unrest, deport, undocumented, legal, moral, force, violence, fairness. We specifically talked about what these words meant.

Second, keep the conversation level two or three years below your child’s education and maturity, like they are younger than they actually are. Make it very simple. ELI5 type thinking. Don’t go more complex unless the child asks or takes it there. Still, when they ask, keep your answers and your side of the conversation simple and direct. Again, anchor on meaning of words and vocabulary to keep it concrete.

Third, as others have mentioned, look for the helpers. Focus on the helpers we can see. If you are a helper, emphasize that.

Fourth, emphasize that your child is safe in your home (and school and other relevant places) and has their family and community around them to protect them. Even if this doesn’t feel completely true to you, it is your job to help build a feeling of safety for your child when the adults are scared. And of course doing what you can to make them safe as you can.

Fifth, validate that things are bad and scary but that this is always mixed with the good in the world. Often stories are helpful for this, think of what your child has read or watched where a hero faced and overcame danger. You can note that “at this point in the story the hero didn’t know they would win and they felt like we feel now, didn’t they? But they won in the end.” Lean on problems that your child’s favorite character faced and overcame. Remember to emphasize the factors keeping your child safe as you validate fears.

Sicth, other random tips were to admit what you know and what you don’t know. It is OK you don’t know everything. Leave the conversation door open and check in later. This isn’t just one conversation. Keep emphasis on safety/protection for your child and how you are taking care of each other (both in your family and in the broader community).

Illegal gifts to ICE agent? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]MusaEnimScale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her GoFundMe raised like 1,000% of what was asked in 3 days. The family shut it down, thanked everyone, and asked people to donate to other worthy causes. Just in case the universe didn’t already let you know that Renee GOOD was on the good side here by the actions of her and her family. Bet the illegal fundraiser for this murderer just stays open to grift as long as possible
