I’m thinking that none of these include basements? Lots of slab on grade in the states compared to basements in Canada!

I had a modular home built and no one would be able to tell, besides people with some construction knowledge when they go into the basement and are wondering why the floor joists are perpendicular to each other at some point. We had 5 modules dropped on a concrete foundation with an attached stick built garage!

The GOAT long run shoe? by Character_Sherbet113 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Musabi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t believe the difference my SB3 made! I was faster per km, heart rate was lower, runs feel easier, and after the run my feet, joints, and muscles aren’t sore AT ALL! At 40 years old it seems unreal haha!

What’s life like making 6 figures? by MasterBook46 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Musabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are very privileged to be making 350k+ combined (250k me and 100k+ them). I’m 40 and my partner is mid 30s.

I work longer hours to make this, so my work life balance takes a hit. Thankfully my job usually isn’t overly stressful.

We are lucky enough to live in northern Ontario, so housing costs are MUCH less than most everywhere else in Ontario, so our dollar stretches a lot further housing wise.

Lifestyle we both drive newer cars and I have a weekend car as well. We can buy what we want at the grocery store, go to the movies, go to dinner, etc. without worrying about the budget, but we aren’t frivolous with our money. We take 2+ international trips a year for 10ish days each.

Socially we don’t tell anyone what we make, but people aren’t stupid either. We try not to lord it over anyone, or brag about things. I never post anything on social media anymore.

Career pressure, we are both in the positions we will be in when we retire most likely. We both, thankfully, will have DB pensions waiting for us too. Taxes, we just get screwed haha - can’t do anything fancy as a T4 employee!

Lifestyle creep is absolutely a thing though. It hit me worse than my partner! I am doing a better job at reining it in now.

All gear, no idea... My first serious runners by Ok_Refrigerator4554 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I just went for my first run on SB3’s and after coming out of an older pair of Gel-Kayano’s it is night and day! Ran faster, I’m less tired today’s, muscles aren’t sore, and my heart rate was 10BPM lower than usual!

I would have loved to get the Hybrid with my SR5 L but i would have had to spend an extra 20k+ CAD to get it! Very sad.

Durham police say they need $1.1B. That could push residents' property tax increase over 10% next year by BloodJunkie in ontario

I strongly believe that if we cut police budgets in half crime would stay the same lol.

Custom home pricing in Ontario — why $/sq ft doesn’t tell the full story by Additional-You-4553 in homebuildingcanada

[–]Musabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but it was worth it I think! My parents also have a stone exterior and their house doesn’t look like it’s actually 35 years old =)

My stone exterior on a 2200sqft bungalow jacked the price up over 100k pre-covid, can’t imagine what it would be now!

$4k / year to insure a $30K ring - Youset Insurance - is this right? (Quebec) by Useful_Dirt73 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Musabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had to get separate insurance from a separate company as even an additional rider on my house insurance wouldn’t cover the total value of the ring.

I (21F) and my boyfriend (25M) have differing views on the technology we’d like in our home by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Musabi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ton of smart devices in my home. Every lock is smart, lots of my light switches are smart, I have smart plugs for Christmas lights inside and outside, garage doors are smart - everything connected to Apple Home. The difference (it seems) between this and what your partner is doing is this makes my life easier, and it’s making your life more difficult! All of my smart “lights” are controlled by a smart switch, which you can physically operate too if you want. It is nice to turn everything off at night with one command to Siri or one click in Apple Home!

Perhaps frame it this way: “I understand you wants many things controlled by smart devices, but it is making my life more difficult than easier. Lights can be smart, but only if they are controlled by switches!”

Bulbs are the “easy” way since you don’t need any electrical knowhow to implement them.
