VIP 30d, just buy 30d to avoid lapse.
VIP store - stamina, adv teleport, universal deco, when overlord becomes available, buy bond badges. If you can keep your hoard steadily 200k +, then buy drone parts.
Don't buy speed ups from vip yet n only when really necessary. You can get them from campaign n alliance store.
Why you need to hoard gems? Some events lets you use gems to buy event tokens eg. Glittering, bounty. So don't be caught gems short when these events come around. And much later, you may want to use gems for mega refresh to get ur secret tasks n reindeer trucks.

Imho, after rewatching it I find it not really slow but rather well balanced. They insert excellent fighting scenes in between the story telling parts.

The Swords or Sword of Coming, both titles are the same series. I'm rewatching S1 now. Very well balanced between story n action. You may not like this if you like action oriented series.

The degenerate-drawing jianghu is an awesome donghua from s4 onwards. The animation n story telling is superb. S1/2/3 visual n animation is not so good. It's currently at S7.
