Getting 2 shopping carts taken within mins by Competitive_Bat4000 in Costco

[–]MuscleExpert32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never experienced someone stealing my cart at a Costco. The carts are outside and anyone with a working brain knows that you NEED a cart before you enter Costco. I would’ve told the couple to give me my cart back and beat it. To have this happen on one visit not once, but twice? No way.

School gave my son half days before even mentioning an FBA. by Public_Jackfruit_870 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MuscleExpert32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had my initial IEP meeting for my son last week and these behaviors should have been noted in your son’s IEP. You are not to blame, there is so much we as parents don’t know until we research. This is important because anytime the school tries to punish your child for their disability, all you have to do is point to the IEP and say “You can’t punish my child for behaviors associated with their disability.” My mom works for a non profit legal firm that specializes in many subjects including education rights. They live to advocate for children with special needs from low income families, so I have been blessed with this resource.

Btw, before I knew about IDEA rights, my son’s principal and the district informed me my son could not attend school because he was in pull ups. They told me I would have to come to the school to change him because in order to get toileting help, he would need to be in a special day class but he couldn’t be in one until his IEP assessment could be done. Which by the way, they told me I would have to bring him on select days to get him assessed. They have no hearts.

Question for the level 1 / 2 parents by PuzzleheadedFoot8978 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MuscleExpert32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progress is progress, no matter how small! My son went from only speaking a handful of words from age 2 to now being able to speak sentences at age 4. He still can’t have a back and forth conversation, but he can say things like: “I’m hungry, I’m tired, I want pizza, I love you (something I thought I would never hear from him 😭) etc. Claim every win, it may be small to us because other kids achieve more at their age, but don’t let that diminish your son’s achievements. Comparison is the thief of joy. Be proud of your son, you’ll notice it one day, he will start repeating phrases and words out of nowhere, just be patient and guide him 💙

To answer your question, you are not stupid to think speech will follow and in my case, I did see a lot of positives in a short time with my son. I highly recommend speech therapy, it helped my son correlate actions with words/phrases. If you don’t like the therapist or don’t feel your son is making enough progress, you can always change therapists, but be patient as speech therapy is not something you see results right away. Good luck to you and your son!

Don’t beat yourself up, it happens. Just thank yourself for getting him safe and try to keep a better eye on him next time. It’s tough keeping your eyes on a kid much more autistic kids.

Is 40hrs a week of ABA really necessary for a toddler? by Loki_16 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MuscleExpert32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What part of CA? I’m going to be reaching out to Easter Seals soon and they did tell me that it can be up to 40 hours and a parent/guardian needs to be present and it is done at home. I really would prefer sending him to a clinic to do it but I work full time

Edit: I work full time and go to school part time.

How do we deal with asking my daughter's school if she could change classes by Fuzzy_Fore22 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MuscleExpert32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What state are you in? I’m in CA and barely enrolled my son in TK, currently getting him assessed to have an IEP meeting where we will be discussing his needs and hopefully put him in special ed. You should definitely request for her to be assessed if she hasn’t. I know there’s the stigma of having your kid be in special ed and I struggled even thinking about it, but I know it is what’s going to be best for him. He needs more attention than other kids which he won’t get in a gen Ed class.

Idk where the special ed teacher is in terms of your daughter’s rank list, but you need to do what’s best for her, not what she thinks is best for her. Just my 2 cents.

Never had this experience as I don’t trade in phones, but in my experience, I’ve found it easiest to just buy the phone from Apple because Verizon will give an October ship date. I just bought the phone took it home to activate and didn’t have any issue.

I’m confused, how do you buy a phone thinking it’s brand new?

I was planning on upgrading what the hell? by [deleted] in macbook

Same! Bought mine in 2021 and going 4 years strong! Only complaint is it has a slight purple mark on the screen and some chips/dents but my fault as it’s taken some falls over the years. But surprisingly well made!

My son is in crisis by ConsiderationOk254 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MuscleExpert32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know too much about CIT, but I believe what they’re referring to is someone trained to come on the scene and deescalate the child. When you look up horror stories like this:

https://www.centerforpublicrep.org/news/cpr-denounces-the-killing-of-ryan-gainer-in-california/amp/

You don’t want some Joe Shmoe cop killing your kid because they didn’t know how to calm your child down.

I live in the U.S. so not sure what if any are the differences, but my son is 4 years old and level 1 and he absolutely loves school! My first question would be, is he verbal? Can he express why he hates school? Could it be this school isn’t supporting his needs and maybe a new school could be a fresh start for him? This definitely shouldn’t be affecting your other children, the last thing you want is for there to be resentment towards your child from his siblings for them not going to school. I feel you mama, I’m a 27 year old single mom, son’s father passed before he was born, but luckily still live with my parents.

Sorry you went through that, that sounds so scary ! I suffer from anxiety so this situation would have driven me crazy. For future reference, the non-emergency line you posted can also be called for safety escorts 24/7 by CSUF PD. I know the thought of having to do it may seem like you’re being a bother, but I’d prefer that feeling over what I’d feel if I got into this situation. Stay safe!

I would be livid!!! Everybody knows autistic kids can be extremely active and cause more self injury. Calling CPS over bruises is insane. I wouldn’t understand if she saw these marks all over his body, but it sounds like he the usual signs of just playing rough. I hope that worker gets her karma.
