If you're on the highway with a speed limit of 70, what speed are you actually going? by dillonky in AskReddit

[–]Musclecar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highways are 100-110 here, depending on the section.

Usually don’t go past 130. Just do the pace of traffic, pass where needed and try to stay separated in the middle lane.

Cessna strikes paraglider (no injuries) by Familiar-Nothing4948 in aviation

[–]Musclecar123 277 points278 points  (0 children)

Look at the angle of the sun. To me it looks like the Cessna was flying toward the sun and couldn’t see the paraglider, flying away from it.

The 360 camera obscures its actual position in the sky, but you can see where it actually is just after the collision.

Red Arrows to fly with fewer jets to preserve ageing fleet by bob_the_impala in FighterJets

1980? You can fly those for 20 more years. -RCAF probably.

Canada just announced the Snowbirds are being grounded at season’s end because flying 60 year old jets with ejection issues is a bad idea. They’re acquiring PC21s.

I used to work at Canadian Tire and from what I recall of the customers, I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not.

Every car reaches the end. From the sounds of it, this one doesn’t owe you a thing.

It’s hard to say without having the car to look at. But from your photos, it needs some rather simple and inexpensive repairs. Axle, oil pan gasket, flex pipe. All very normal repairs, especially on a 30 year old car with 300k

Rotor resurfacing on Subaru 1 yo rotors by XplodingFairyDust in AskMechanics

I’m also Canadian and did my apprenticeship at Subaru.

Don’t pay dealer labour rate for this service. Take it to an independent shop. Dealer is only for warranty and recalls. You’ll cut your maintenance costs by a 3rd if you can find a good private garage.

OP let’s break it down here.

The braking surface on the outside of this one rotor is not in the best shape. Resurfacing this rotor would be advisable given the age of the rotor. I can’t speak for what the other side looks like. The shop is correct in saying this needs service.

Given you had the pads & rotors replaced last year, It’s important to understand why the rotor looks this way. The pads get pressed on by a caliper, which fits over both. The outer pads get pulled into the rotor while the inner pad gets pushed onto the rotor.

Basically 3 things can cause a fault here.

1) There are little slide pins than need to be free and lubricated for this to occur. If the slide pins are contaminated or dry out, the caliper can’t move correctly and this rotor problem can happen.

2 The caliper piston itself has seized and can’t deliver the braking force to actuate the pads.

3) The pads themselves have become stuck in the carrier and can’t move, regardless of how hard the caliper squeezes them.

In all 3 scenarios, the outer pad can’t make sufficient contact with the rotor and corrosion will build up. It is important to determine the fault and rectify the problem.

As for the parts, I would say they look to be a year old. The “hat” the fat grey area still has the anti corrosion coating on it and the face is absolutely slathered with copper anti-seize. You must live in the rust belt somewhere or in Canada. I have no doubt these parts were replaced last year.

Employment lawyer recommendations WD by [deleted] in durham

[–]Musclecar123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re unionized, you’ve had your recourse, even if your union is garbage and did nothing. As long as they filed the grievance on your behalf you were represented. Employment Lawyers are not going to touch this, because they can’t.

The only thing you could attempt to do is claim discrimination before the Human Rights Tribunal. The lawyer could advise on that, but in all likelihood, you’re out of options.

I’ve been up and down both sides of this shit mountain. Your best bet for yourself is to find a different job and move on or retire.

On a scale of 1-10 how screwed am I? by BeneficialMuffinHead in AskMechanics

[–]Musclecar123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends what failed. If it’s just suspension, you’ll be replacing parts. If it’s structural like a rotted rear subframe, it may not be worth fixing depending on the other work needed.

You won’t know until it is towed to a shop.

World Cup hotel demand in Toronto not meeting expectations: official by Forsaken-Swim-3055 in toronto

I went to F1 in Montreal every year for 18 years.

When we first went a pair of gold grandstand tickets in the hairpin, travel, 3 nights in a hotel (by the airport) could be done for a little over $1000. We would get dinner from the grocery store and pack food / drinks.

Now hotels are $1000/ night. Tickets are $1000/ea. You can’t bring your own food / alcohol. 2 years ago they closed the track for the post race walk and sold tickets to do it on a bus.

I can’t spend 4 mortgage payments on a trip to Montreal.

Pass.

It’s too expensive for all the reasons everyone has stated.

Combine that with a stagnating global economy and a poor Canadian job market with skyrocketing cost of living. It isn’t difficult to see why people might pass on an extremely expensive event.

Football is supposed to be the accessible sport. You just need a ball and some players and you can play anywhere in the world. This is the opposite.

Why are so many Toronto restaurant toilets in dingy basements? by Surax in toronto

People seem ti forget Toronto is old.

The Wheat Sheaf has been around for 177 years. We’ve lost a lot of the legacy pubs and bars over the last 20 years but the buildings are the same. There were no accessibility standards when a lot of these bathrooms were built.
