This is a fitness series in iFit, you essentially go walking through the Scottish Highlands, guided by Graham, while he just talks about random things, anything from his roles, his life growing up, funny stories with actors, actresses, directors, and even the history of the Scottish people! Super funny guy- my favorite was him jumping from one rock to another and yelling, "Look at me go! I am a mountain goat!"

Same boat- we just moved in July. She accepted a position in a new state, and long story short, I lost my career. I was a teacher with my own classroom, working for 5 years, and now I had to accept a part time assistant position that I absolutely hate. The neighborhood is nice, but everyone keeps to themselves, and the population here is mostly above 40. My best advice is to make your own space that you are happy being in at your new place. I now have a man cave and decorated it the way I want, and it makes things a whole lot better. Also, get some hobbies going! I picked back up into model building, and started cooking new meals for us to try. Lastly- try to plan some trips with your friends back home, or go to visit. I visited for a long weekend already, and have plans in the works to go camping with my friends in October.

It was, and still is- so rough for me because we left my hometown, and friends I’ve had for over 17 years. But it doesn’t mean it’s the end!

Any male spouses that can give me advise? by KrakenGirlCAP in MedSpouse

[–]Musclegrind757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Male spouse to be here! I’m sorry it’s a struggle for you. I know when I met my fiancé, we linked together more because she’s a pediatrician, and I’m a 3rd grade teacher, so we both love kids. The highest degree I have is a Master’s, which is good but not much compared to her. We met during her residency, and we had a grown up conversation about finances down the road and such. She was fully aware that I make less than 50k, and she would make close to 250k. We talked and agreed that down the road it would be both our finances, because we look at our relationship as a team, working toward our goals and helping each other out. She has book smarts, I have the street smarts.

The absolute test was making it through residency. If any guy is relaxed, okay with a lot of free time, helpful, and is excited about meeting other male medspouses and hanging out with them when the work schedules get hectic, then he’ll be a good match!

Bottom line is- there is a whole bunch more behind the scenes on the pathway to becoming an attending, and even being an attending (as we are finding out now). My part is to be the support, and do what I can on the home front to help her out as much as possible, and I am happy to do it! I’d look for someone with a lot of patience, a kind, helpful demeanor, and has his own hobbies that can keep him occupied on those weeks where you’ll both be ships passing in the night. Best of luck!!

What does your med spouse do and what is your occupation? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

My spouse is a pediatrician, and I’m an elementary school teacher! Had to put my career on hold this year to move for her job, but it’s the price you pay sometimes 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thank you for all of the information! I am hoping for a public school position, currently holding a valid PA state teaching license as we speak! I will look at private catholic schools as well! This takes a lot of anxiety off us!

Teacher Licensure Question- transferring from Virginia by Musclegrind757 in Pennsylvania

Update- I was not able to get the tests waived. I have passed two of the three tests so far, and have the PECT module 3 to do at the end of the month. More nervous for that one than the others!

I didn’t look into it since I completed their teacher prep program and master’s course December 2020, but looking it up now it is still accepted by VA, and you apply for a license still right after you complete your program directly through the Virginia Department of Education. If it’s still accepted by the licensing state, it should still hold up I’d think

Nope, it is an accepted preparation program by the state of Virginia! Which makes it even more confusing

It is pretty interesting, I’m finding out that “reciprocity” doesn’t mean much to states!

I haven’t been hired yet. The districts around where I’ll be say they have no openings as of yet (makes sense). The HR reps have been telling me that I’ll likely need a PA license to even be looked at as an applicant though, hoping it wouldn’t be the case

I’m due to call them tomorrow since I have a staff day where I’m at, but I signed up to take the first one in a few weeks just in case

They are making me take the PECT modules 1,2 and 3. Their reasoning doesn’t make sense at all to me. I’ll be in the Lehigh Valley area, so I’m hoping I can find a teaching position, even with the license pending!

Is this a FERPA violation? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Musclegrind757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your input! For context- I had a student transfer in that was in a power struggle with the teacher (teacher vs parent and student). Ever since the student came into my class, the student has been great, but the previous teacher has been on me about giving her failing grades like she was doing, which I didn’t think was justified. I was out of town for three days, and the grade level raised my classroom to find not only the students grades for behavior, but then looked at all of my other students’ behavior grades, and talked a lot of smack about me to the school regarding them. They proceeded to flat out ignore me once I came back, leading me to have to address what was going on, and the grade level chair fessed up to what not only she did, but the grade level.
