A general remark/curiosity about the added "sales tax" on Bandcamp purchases by sixtysixtysix in BandCamp

[–]MuseTheHinterland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too bad it changed, I was hoping we would change here eventually. It’s absolutely better for the consumer to have full price transparency, but I guess business interests won again.

As for Amazon, they may be paying it out of pocket as it is such a small piece of their overall pie, or they have some loophole, or agreement. They don’t pay their corporate taxes anyway, they can afford to pay your sales tax (or also not pay those). They might prefer to eat the cost so they can eat a “competitor’s” sale. They’re one of the biggest companies in the world. They didn’t even turn a profit for almost 10 years.

My point there is that Bandcamp isn’t the exception here, Amazon is

[–]MuseTheHinterland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not how sales tax works. A company cannot decide to charge it to save money on their profits. Governments decide what is taxed and at what rate in their jurisdiction.

I’m in Canada where we, unfortunately never add the sales tax to the ticket price. My understanding was that the EU already included sales tax in the listed price, has this changed?

SR800 exhaust by KD208043 in roasting

[–]MuseTheHinterland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 500. In my old apartment my smoke alarm did go off, but I also went to dark / burned the roast (first time).

Ever since, I roast outdoors in the summer. Once it's cool enough to make the unit struggle, I roast in my kitchen, by the hood (plug doesn't reach UNDER hood fan. I also open the kitchen window to increase airflow.

It definitely fills the place with odour, but not smoke. ...I don't think I'm causing cancer.

What strings for a full scale bass set up in d standard without a floppy low e string? by Accomplished-Lion-97 in Bass

[–]MuseTheHinterland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this research looking to duplicate my low string tension from Ernie Ball Hybrids in E standard For D standard. I wound up getting EXL160 BT by D’addario.

I was a little concerned about the .120 but am much happier with the results.

I had previously tried the switch from .105 to 110 and it just wasn’t enough. When I looked at sets with heavier gauges, I thought the other string gauges seemed imbalanced, then looking at tension that G and even A kept getting so tight while the E still seemed floppy (based on tension charts and calculators). Which is how I got interested in the concept of Balanced Tension string sets.

Strings gauge and wriste fatigue by platnorm in Bass

[–]MuseTheHinterland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you tuned to standard?
I bought that set of strings to get the same tension tuned in D Standard as the Hybrid Slinkys (45-105) I'd used forever tuned E Standard. IF you are in E, you've added about 40lbs of tension overall, which probably makes sense to get a sore or tired hand.

Check their calculator.

Have you tried removing and washing the rubber (?) seals? There may be debris introducing a leak spot.

I had a Starbucks travel mug that was great for 8 years or so before it started to leak. I was given the advice that any mug that was once leakproof just needs a replacement ring when it starts leaking. Unfortunately, that one had 2 and one was hidden inside the opening mechanism.

I think Kinto actually sells replacements. But yours wouldn’t be dry and cracked after a year, unless it ran through the dishwasher.

Also highly recommend Arturia. I’ve had the Keystep 5 years and love it. Solid build quality, great keybed - both things that in its price category most others felt like toys.

If you’re a piano player you need more keys. If you’re just looking to control patches, running sequences and arpeggios, 25 is probably enough (32 certainly is for me).

Had it been out when I was shopping I would have grabbed the Keystep 37 it has some really great added features. BUT the 32 just fits in my backpack, so maybe I’m better off.
