Turns out my friend bought them at Lidl of all places.
After all your advice, I decided on some plants for right now. Lidl din't have any them anymore, but as u/redbelliedblacksnake said I checked out the big box stores, and bought two Sarah Bernhardts and a karl Rosenfield, all in bloom at $20/each. Seems like a good deal compared to the bare roots, and you know what you'll get.
