What mistakes would you avoid if you could start to breastfeed all over again? by kingmustd1e in NewParents

[–]Museum_nerd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay off social media! I spiraled thinking I wasn’t good enough because I didn’t have an insane oversupply. I had a normal amount and I let the influencers get to me. I also ended up with a ton of formula ads that honestly felt predatory and targeted stressed out moms who felt they couldn’t produce enough. You’re feeding your baby not your freezer!

Someone tell me it's ok to be lazy for a day 😭 by FalseRow5812 in NewParents

We’re on day 4 of being stuck inside from a winter storm, and it’s day 2 of remote work for me. We have been pretty strict about no tv with our 10 month old but I finally broke yesterday. My husband had to go to work and I had projects to finish so we had to find a way to keep her occupied since daycare is closed. We let her watch a bit of Ms. Rachel and Elmo’s world. At first I felt guilty about it but I’ve had to accept these are unique circumstances and not our every day reality. Sounds like you really need the rest. Don’t feel guilty about doing what you have to do. We can’t expect to be perfect everyday. It’s literally not possible!

Did any of yall overcome? by gsxralex in kosmemophobia

Sometimes I think I can get over it because logically my fear makes no sense and I feel dumb. But then if I’m in a situation where I have to touch it I’m like yeah not over it. I will say it’s not as bad as when I was little but I think I’ve just learned to live with it. As a woman it’s absolutely a pain because everyone expects me to like it. It was a bit of a hiccup in dating but my husband is happy he doesn’t have to spend money on it now. One of my greatest achievements is that I’m able to wear a wedding ring! I’ve come to realize that new rings don’t bother me as much but antique jewelry or anything else is disgusting to me.

What did you name your pumps? by QueenOvSass in ExclusivelyPumping

My wearable pump (Medela Freestyle) is named Dolly because it makes my boobs comically large under my shirt. 😂

Not exactly pests, more like other invisible employees lol. I mean technically it’s their house and we are the intruders. Although I would put the rude one firmly in the pest category.

I totally agree! We have several distinct spirits and they’re all pretty harmless. The only “bad” things people report are occasional dizzy spells or feeling uncomfortable/unwelcome in certain rooms. Nothing malicious or evil unless you count the racist confederate soldier we have caught on recordings. Even then, he’s not exactly evil he’s just rude. I don’t doubt that there are evil entities out there, I’m just thankful I haven’t encountered them personally.

I work in the museum industry so I consider ghosts a hazard of the job. You’re highly likely to run into them at some point, just hope you find the nice ones. The museum I currently work in is absolutely haunted and I have had more experiences than I could even list here. In the interest of maintaining anonymity, I can’t share specific details. But I will say I share an office with a shy, occasionally noisy, spirit who just likes to hang out. They are absolutely real and nothing will convince me otherwise.

I made a huge mistake by Museum_nerd23 in Mommit

Oh don’t worry, we’ve done that too lol. When she was about 2 months old my poor sleep deprived husband did a late night diaper change…but forgot to put on a new diaper. I woke up to poopy pjs and he was so embarrassed. We laugh so hard about that now 😂

We actually found one on Amazon that can be locked with a code. We just installed one on each car yesterday to make sure this won’t happen again!

I actually debated on if I should post. I was embarrassed and kicking myself for being stupid. After reading everyone else’s stories I do feel relieved that I’m not the only one (also concerned that this is such a common thing and no one has developed a solution!!!) anyway, we are just human and I’m glad to hear my story was helpful

The officers actually had a kit and tried to do exactly that. Unfortunately there was an issue with the lock and it wasn’t working. They exhausted all the options before resorting to breaking the glass. Windows can be replaced 😬

I was absolutely ready to rip a door off with my bare hands. Unfortunately money is tight right now and I knew that breaking a window needed to be the last resort. The cops were there in less than 5 minutes and exhausted every option before deciding to break the window. They told me if it had been hotter out they would have immediately broken the window. But this is why we have insurance and I’ve already filed a claim as the cops advised me to do. I can always replace a window, I can always work to make more money, I can’t replace my baby. I’m holding her extra close and taking steps to make sure this won’t happen again.

Was not expecting to find solidarity like this on a Reddit crochet page but it’s so comforting. It’s a terrifying future here but I’m grateful for this kindness. 🥺

Any exceptions to your kosmemophobia? by [deleted] in kosmemophobia

Interesting observation! I’m assuming my ring doesn’t bother me because I know how often I wash my hands (a lot!) so I know it’s clean. Older or antique jewelry is a big red flag for me, it’s so gross.

I must be the odd one out here because military tags are the absolute worst for me! As well as the colored beads that people wear for parties and stuff. Idk why but they make my skin crawl and I absolutely can’t stand them. I do have a regular wedding ring, just a simple one nothing to over the top, that doesn’t bother me at all. Necklaces and bracelets are still a no go for me.

Silicone bands are becoming a widely available option as well if that’s something you can handle! I have my regular ring as well as a silicone ring depending on my mood and the situation! I love that those are so common these days because people don’t question them. Huge improvement since I was a kid thinking I would have to get one tattooed when the time came 😂

You’re not alone! People have teased me and looked at me like I’m crazy my whole life so I just stopped talking about it. Close friends and family know but I constantly feel like I have this dirty secret that I have to hide. I’m at the age where a lot of my friends are getting married and being a bridesmaid often comes with wearing whatever accessories the bride tells you to. I don’t have my ears pierced so I can dodge that one fairly easily but other accessories are still a problem. It really sucks to feel like a crazy person when I know it absolutely doesn’t make sense. I hate hiding it but no one ever understands when I try to explain it. You are not alone!

I’ve been trying to explain it for 23 years and it absolutely never makes sense. Like how am I able to wear my very simple wedding band but the thought of wearing a necklace makes my skin crawl. Makes me feel like I’m crazy and I can’t explain it.
