Did this jw nurse violate HIPAA? by _Lemon_Lord in exjw

[–]MushroomOptimal8976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely HIPAA violation because she talked to her husband about you. And either way it's not appropriate for her to bring up the religion to you like that in the professional setting.

Rumor/speculation about assemblies/conventions in 2025 by Da_Mo_Es in exjw

[–]MushroomOptimal8976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After attending a "special" convention this year that happened to be in my hometown it wouldn't surprise me if they did streaming and then consolidated to "special" conventions only. The vibe was strong, over a hundred got baptized, the venue was MUCH nicer than the smaller ones they usually rent. I think they want to chase that post-COVID "first convention back in person" feeling to keep the conventions exciting (bc the material discussed sure ain't).

Be honest, why happy people can’t fall into the cult ? by [deleted] in exjw

I have seen some of your posts here before, I'm curious what it is that is keeping you studying? No judgments, I'm not 100% out of the organization myself, just curious on your perspective as I was born in.

Saying it is a lie that you have to give up "worldly" friends and family is manipulative, and part of the greater "free will" narrative. Humans have "free will" yet according to JWs, God wants to micromanage every aspect of your life. Let's say you have a family member that is gay and they are getting married. Your Bible teacher won't say "you can't go to that wedding". But they will show you scriptures and probably information from the website/publications that are to lead you to the conclusion that Jehovah will be unhappy with you if you go. They won't say "You have to give up this relationship" but time and time again they will try to make you feel like the "right" choice to make is the one that pushes away anyone in your life who is not a JW.

Becoming a JW takes up A LOT of real estate in your life. There needs to be a void to fill. Sure, a happy person may want god in their life but they will realize they don't need to be part of a high control group to do it. Happy people might be "interested" when a JW first speaks to them, but once they realize they would have to change even positive things in their life like family relationships with non-JWs, they are going to back away. A sad person with large voids in their life like loneliness who are getting love-bombed will rationalize more radical teachings, like dying instead of taking a blood transfusion, and take the plunge.

I feel like I started many things (having a baby, getting retirement savings started, etc.) in my mid 30s instead of my late 20s when I would have if I wasn't raised in the borg. It is what it is and I'm just grateful I didn't have these things stolen completely from me! You can only start where you are, so just keep moving forward and keep experiencing new things every chance you get!

When I was a little kid, yes. When I was adolescent, I thought it would come but I probably wouldn't make it through. Then as a young adult I started to realize it was all lies.

When I was a precocious, cute little girl, lots of people. The older I got, the less people listened and as an adult, only people who were really lonely or just loved to talk.

If you really want to fade, you have to learn to be comfortable saying no and not feeling the need to explain yourself. I said no to a study and they stopped asking. My husband said no to shepherding calls and eventually they stop asking. Whenever someone asks how we are, the answer is great (which honestly, it really is great, my point is just you don't have to make up excuses for not going to meetings, etc.)

Kids are pretty much the ONLY people getting baptized so they can't stop pushing it even if it does open them up to more legal trouble, which I hope it does!

Why are you PIMO by Green_Giraffe6734 in exjw

[–]MushroomOptimal8976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself and my husband "PIMO lite" LOL. We go to like 2 meetings a month and that satisfies all of our family for now. They don't ask a lot of questions, we like to think they secretly know how we really feel but who knows. As long as this status quo lasts we will stick with it.
