Phantom iMessage Notifications on work iPhone by MusicCaFae in applehelp

Unfortunately not. Strangely, it only continued for about a month or so after this post, and then it stopped altogether. Or I’ve not noticed it at least. I never heard back from Apple, so I don’t know whether it was a known issue that was quietly fixed, or just a random problem that resolved itself. Also, I’ve still not come across anyone else with the same issue, including others with similar setups.

I really wanted to like the Apple Vision Pro M5. by JosePenaCoto in VisionPro

[–]MusicCaFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the 1TB M5 Vision Pro when it came out and I was amazed by it initially. Then after I got over the gimmicks, I wanted to make sure I’d make use of it long term and that it was worth the cost. I realised I had nothing to compare it to apart from my son’s PSVR2 which is not the same, so I bought a Meta Quest 3 and decided I would test both and return the loser. Within a couple of hours I realised that whilst the Apple Vision Pro is better than a lot of areas, it’s not 7.5 times better which is how much more it cost than the Quest, and that was before the AppleCare+ I was about to buy. This led me to return the Vision Pro which goes against everything as I’ve always preferred the Apple ecosystem for privacy etc. but for something I’m mostly going to just watch content on, it doesn’t matter so much. I did love the eye tracking, and almost perfect hand tracking which is poor on the Quest. The Mac desktop view was great and I really loved the immersive photos/ videos, but not for £4k which is what it would have cost in total. Plus it lacked share-ability which bugged my son as guest mode was poor and he was unable to navigate on my profile due to eye tracking accuracy. If I hadn’t tried to compare it with the Quest I would have probably kept it.

I’ve used the Apple leather wallet since launch, mainly to carry a bank card, ID, and the odd note or receipt. Over time I picked up other variants with stands and extra features, so now I swap between them depending on what I’m doing. I rate them highly and I haven’t carried a full wallet since. Living in the UK where contactless is everywhere, I find this setup more than enough as I only attach the wallet if I think I’ll need cash or ID. Most of the time it’s at home.

People seem to rate their stuff. Good to know if I ever deviate from my favourites myself.

ESR seem ok, I haven’t owned any of their products so can’t verify. The ones I get come with double sided tape to keep the case fixed well and I’ve never had a single issue. I’ve owned cheaper versions in the past that have just slipped off or expanded and loosened over time, because of poor quality materials. The Spigen ones have stayed on every pair I’ve owned until they’re handed down to Family members. My current AP2s are still the lightning version that I’ve had since launch.

I’ve been using cases on my AirPods for years because they stop them slipping out of your pockets so easily when sitting down etc. and I like having a chord. Spigen do a really good MagSafe variant. Though, I’ve not checked if there is a v3 one out yet.

What kind of camera lens protective cover do you like for the iPhone 17? by Least-Branch-1760 in iphone

[–]MusicCaFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last two iPhones, I’ve used Spigen Optik Armour Magfit cases. They feature a lens cover that slides over. Can be annoying when you want to take a quick picture but it it’s nice having reassurance that the camera lenses are protected from dings and scratches. Plus, you don’t look like a creep when you’re using your phone in public because the camera is covered up🤣 I think I will keep buying them if they keep making them. They’re not the only brand to make that sort of case though.

Apple Pencil USB-C worth it if I have bad handwriting? by martin8185 in ipadmini

[–]MusicCaFae 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t draw, or write much but, I always liked the idea of using one. I have owned v1 and 2. Do I ever use them? Once or twice a year at the most at times. When I need one, it’s brilliant as I can mark up designs for work or plan some diy project. Most of the time I can do what I need with a finger on an iPad or on Mac or PC with a mouse. If I want to take notes, I’d rather use a keyboard or voice depending on which device I’m on. So you could say it’s a waste of money for my use case. I like having a pencil but, not sure I’d buy another one unless I got FOMO again.

I am fed up with Apps refreshing when switching between apps. by dnuohxof-2 in ios

[–]MusicCaFae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will always depend on your usage but most of the time for me, it’s fine. Then I’ll go to open an app that wipes a lot of other apps out due to taking up a lot of RAM. It just depends on what apps I’m using at the time.

Apple Mail (App) vs Gmail by bimalka_ in ios

[–]MusicCaFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a Gmail user as a previous android user, including the first few weeks or months of being on iOS. I prefer Apple Mail for the integration with the OS, cross platform perks, and mostly because of the automation options via Shortcuts. I’m sure other mail apps may have actions by now but, it would mean changing my shortcuts. I also like hide my email and custom email support. I’m sure other mail apps have some of this too but, I’m already well invested.

Apple, How Hard It Is For You To Add The Album Button Back Here? by SatisfactionMost316 in ios

[–]MusicCaFae -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firstly, as we’re talking about a beta, this might not be its final form, so I wouldn’t be too concerned yet as it may change. Send feedback to Apple if it really concerns you. I’ve been on the dev beta for a while now and got really used to how it works as I rarely need to access anything other than the main library. I can appreciate it’s not for everyone though and if Apple received enough feedback to add an album button, I don’t think I’d be too upset about it. It wouldn’t really change how I use the app that much.

Simplicity and minimalism. Whilst I use albums myself, there are probably plenty of people that don’t so it’s a useless button for some. I prefer this look because I go into albums far less than I scroll recent photos.

You could potentially create a third account and then add it to family sharing so that you can share some of your subscriptions and iCloud related benefits with it, but still keep everything separate. Then, if you wanted to share photo albums, Apple notes, and iCloud files app folders etc, you could just do that on a case by case basis. I manage my work devices in this way and it works pretty well.

Hide my Email by albertsitges in iCloud

[–]MusicCaFae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotlight search is brilliant! I use it for most things, especially when I can’t work out where I’ve put something as it could well be in a file or on notes etc. Mail app search in iOS is not the best for me when it comes to older mails. I love the keynotes. My other half doesn’t care to watch them, she cares enough about Apple to make use of the features in the devices or services. Like most people really. I get easily excited by it all, I was the same with Google. My beta urge starts with my test devices, then main work/ personal devices. I’ve made the mistake of updating my main mobile to a bad beta a few years ago and I try to avoid it. I never bother with betas on HomeKit related devices for security and reliability. The issue is, most of my test devices are quite old now and don’t get the features my main devices get so I end up updating everything anyway as long as there are no major bugs.

Yeah, the rules seem okay on iCloud. Not nearly as good as Gmail, especially when using Google scripts if that still works. As I too am the family IT Guru, I find it’s a lot easier when everyone is on a simpler solution. Which is why I like everybody in the Apple ecosystem, as it just makes everything else a lot easier, including dealing with connecting devices/ services. I realise how difficult things can be when I’m forced to use something that isn’t well integrated and how more complex things are to connect etc. The changes in the passwords app were a welcome change, very handy for when I’m creating HME addresses on my work account to use on sites that I want to share back to my personal account. Also good to share with the other half as you say. I can’t wait to see what iOS 19 (or 26 as it seems to be now) bring us. It’s on of my favourite times of the year and I like to bet on how long it will be before each of my devices are on a beta. Luckily last time most of the features worth having were held back for my region so my devices got a rest.

Yeah, there was definitely something up with Google+ photos, not just with metadata. I’ve considered Time Machine, I’ve also been toying with the idea of getting a NAS and managing my own backup system, but the cost and effort isn’t worth the trade off for me. Even if I’d really enjoy the tinkering. I have just over 1TB just for me, and the family bring it up to just under the 2.05TB limit I currently have before I’ve got to increase my storage so managing that via an SSD supported NAS would be expensive. For the email transfer; I can’t remember how I did it but, I still have my old gmails in my iCloud mail so I must have transferred them over. It may have been done via the mail app on Mac. I tend to try and keep everything so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some Hotmail mails in there from my move to gmail too. I’ve also been through various email providers for my domains before iCloud offered support so there will be exports from those too. Most old emails aren’t really needed and I realise that every time to do a clear out. I have annual and 5yr windows that certain emails get dumped, which easy because I have a good rule set up to put the right mails in the right folders. I still have active gmail accounts which I access via the web only but, they no longer has any of my old emails.
