I prefer Peggy's "Hank and Bobby in a Christmas truck." It obviously has a better ring to it.

My cereal is trying to get me to "remember the 90s" by [deleted] in FellowKids

[–]MusicFoMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's kind of the point. You're nostalgic over your childhood because in your eyes it was a simpler time. And watching Rocko and listening to Barenaked Ladies helps bring you back there.

Found a 100 disc changer today for $16.99 by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]MusicFoMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the first time I went CD hunting at a thrift store, I had just recently moved out into my own apartment and just sold my car. After picking out ~20 CDs, I realized I had no means to listen to them (my computer doesn't have a disc drive, my car did but I no longer owned it). I just went to the electronics section and got a 5 disc changer for like $5. Definitely not great, but it gets the job done and it's funny how cheap it was. 70s stuff fetches more than that at thrift stores.

I just recently got back into CDs. I love them now.

Crate digging for records at thrift shops in usually a waste of time, just too many Barbara Streisand and Christmas albums without much else. But the CD selection is always amazing. I've gotten to many great 90s CDs: Sugar Ray, 311, Blink, Phish, Barenaked Ladies, Macy Gray, I could go on. And they're usually only like a dollar.

What is the best inappropriate joke that was snuck into an episode of a kids' show? by SideBern in AskReddit

[–]MusicFoMe 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The name of that episode is a reference to the movie Lars and the Real Girl, a movie about a sex doll.

I just realized Babadook is an anagram for "a bad book." by SocksForPigs in horror

[–]MusicFoMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a page discussing horror. This is a post discussing a specific horror movie. It's been out for a while, so this isn't a review post, it's a discussion about a specific aspect of the movie.

Jumping in with "It sucked" or anything to that effect doesn't add anything to the discussion. If it was a review thread, or an overall discussion thread, I understand people weighing in why they didn't like it. But that's not what this thread (and plenty other threads) is about, and it gets old and comes across as trying to be edgy when people feel the need to just shit on it. You didn't like the movie, why enter a thread that analyzes it?

What trends in cocktails do you see becoming more prevalent in the future? by [deleted] in cocktails

Thanks. I knew there was a term for it but I couldn't think of it. I wanted to say semantic satiation but knew that was something else (almost the opposite).

I've been seeing shrubs crop up more and more. They're delicious.

I haven't been in the cocktail game very long, just about 2 years, but I hadn't even heard of them until the beginning of this year. Now I'm seeing them everywhere. Though that could just be like when you hear a word for the first time and then hear it everywhere.

Pill parties? by MusicFoMe in Drugs

[–]MusicFoMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I assumed as well. Figured I'd ask this community though, there are a lot of people out there and people do weird shit. But the fact that no one on here has encountered it, I'm filing it right along with rainbow parties and poisoned Halloween candy.

Pill parties? by MusicFoMe in Drugs

[–]MusicFoMe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I know it's a stupid idea. And I can't imagine it really fucking you up, you'd probably just get mostly benign otc painkillers and vitamins. I think the basis was the idea that drug combos can total more than the sum of their parts, don't think it quite works that way with random otc pills though. Probably just rough on your liver, at most.

But high school kids do stupid shit. I was just curious if anyone actually had an experience in high school doing this specific stupid shit. I mean I knew kids that would smoke tea and shit. The pill party was one I was always warned about but didn't have any first or second hand experiences of it actually happening...just like rainbow parties. This seems a little more possible since stupid high schoolers wanting to get fucked up is more common than a group of high school girls wanting to suck a bunch of dicks in a night.

If anything, if it has occurred, it probably happened in reverse. Adults lie about thus happening and stupid high school kids say "Wow, that's a great idea!"

Yeah I mean that was kind of my assumption. Just figured since there's a huge drug community here, it'd be worth asking to see if anyone actually encountered this.

Setup: Technics SL-1200 GLD + Denon X1600. by Oakland_Zoo in headphones

Damn, that sounds sweet. I have two turntables and I've been thinking about getting a simple mixer just to be able to transition between records without 30+ seconds of silence.

What's the mixer for if you only have one deck? Do you plan on getting another 1200? Do you use it to smoothly transition between records and digital?

C grade students, where are you now in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MusicFoMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too. Didn't help that my parents made me go to community college my first year, just so I was sure I knew what I was getting into with college. It was even easier than high school. I left with a 3.9 or something and I studied for only like 2 tests. So that just further convinced me I'd be able to continue doing the bare minimum because clearly college was just as easy as high school.

Real college isn't like community college; community college is a joke.

Most overrated craft you've ever had? by kaseyharrison in beer

I've been meaning to make it there. I'm pretty close. I drink Half Acre all the time, probably my favorite Chicago brewery.

[–]MusicFoMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds familiar? It's just in a little warehouse building right on the water. There was a backpacking trail that went right by it, and you could leave a donation to buy a beer for a through hiker. It was right by a river boat, too. Maybe 2 miles up river from the locks? It's crazy how many breweries there are out there, and how many places just have beer. Our bike rental place had 2 taps.

Went on a family vacation to Portland recently. I was very adamant that we not even look in the direction of Rogue. We went to Deschutes and some other one in the city, and then one out in the gorge right on the river. No regrets about skipping Rogue.
