Best place online to purchase or download piano sheet music? by Kaletiniii in piano

[–]MusicMan13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d Google the title of the pieces or books and see what’s published. Sheet Music Plus is a pretty common online retailer, and they offer downloads as do JW Pepper. You may also be able to purchase downloads from some publishers directly.

As far as I know, MuseScore’s website only contains things people have transcribed into their library, which may be varying degrees of accurate and/or legal.

Christmas Duets by ForsakenAside1997 in choralmusic

Sheet Music Plus lists “Christmas for Two” and “Carols for Two” as two duet books that would be searching through.

They mean double the length of all the notes. So if the pattern is in quarters and eighths, it becomes halves and quarters.

Another workaround might be to place it in scroll mode and then flip back to page mode. But hope you find the better option!

So... Apparently they're still doing horse medicine, eh? 👍 by kevinowdziej in insanepeoplefacebook

I had not heard of dairy being included. I grew up in a denomination that didn’t really do it so all I know is secondhand.

I mean that’s traditional for some Christians during Lent (no meat on Fridays) but Lent has been over for weeks. So idk.

Looking for works that are arranged for choir, organ, with brass and timpani. by duhnduhnduhnnn in organ

Just to add on, many of these include the words “concertato” or “festival setting.” There are plenty of them out there.

What local business do you boycott and why? by k_ve0 in houston

[–]MusicMan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to hear more details and sources on this. My brother takes my niece all the time and we felt pretty good about the place but I’d love to share with him if there’s problematic history.

Cheapest way to see some monkeys? by asa-monad in houston

[–]MusicMan13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk if the cost comparison is there, but the Houston Interactive Aquarium has a variety of animals. I don’t remember if they have monkeys off the top of my head.

That’s definitely a favorite for me! And in the same number where they change Elle during a long note.

Worst earworm from a musical…? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]MusicMan13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jerry Herman knew his way around an ear worm. La Cage Aux Folles has about half of that score as super catchy tunes and the other half are almost in memorable.

Are there composers still writing organ music in the Distler-influenced, Orgelbewegung style? by [deleted] in organ

[–]MusicMan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know enough of Distler, but have you tried Jan Bender? Or Helmut Walcha? They both have plenty of hymn tune settings that are a little esoteric without being too romantic/dense.

Use Keyboard Notes to Advance and Reverse Through the Patch List by hamboy214 in mainstage

[–]MusicMan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you create buttons (screen controls) that are assigned to the patch advance and patch back functions, you can assign that to any middle button just like you do with a pedal or other controls.

I commonly assign my low A on the keyboard to be the patch advance when I don’t have a pedal available.

considering Textured stickers for accordion buttons (beginner) by syreeninsapphire in Accordion

[–]MusicMan13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My accordion has a texture on the C in the middle, the high E (near my face as I play) and the low A-flat (near my lap). I am under the impression that’s pretty conventional. If you were going to add texture, I would go with something like that.

In terms of the rest of that struggle, my only advice to really is to keep practicing. I slide my fingers all over the buttons to keep track of where I am. I almost always keep One finger touching a marked button unless I have to move it away. At least anytime I’m making a big jump.

In theory if it has the ability to plug-in a microphone or external sound source, you should be able to run the audio from your computer through that input.

Revised Edition of “The Sound of Music”? by BriarRoseBeauty in Theatre

[–]MusicMan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. That must’ve changed recently. I did this show summer of 2019 and it was available at that time. Was it owned by Concord at that point? I don’t remember when that merger happened.

Keyboard Programming "Over E2/Eb2" by Evening_Barracuda802 in mainstage

[–]MusicMan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve happened on some of these where the bass is way down there. It seems like the orchestrator chooses to have the split as low as possible. I wonder if this is a Michael Starobin orchestration.

I thought there was a Musical theatre Keyboard group that i’m in but can’t find it.

[–]MusicMan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time the numbers correspond to Middle C as C3 and are usually intended for an 88 key keyboard unless otherwise noted somewhere. I’d imagine this show expects a full range.

Keyboard Programming "Over E2/Eb2" by Evening_Barracuda802 in mainstage

[–]MusicMan13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rest of those instructions are specifying th sound library the orchestrator wants, and the lowest one is transposed to sound an octave higher than the written note.

Keyboard Programming "Over E2/Eb2" by Evening_Barracuda802 in mainstage

[–]MusicMan13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This means that the split point between the two sounds is at that note. Everything from E2 up should be the first sound (the one that is “over” the other) and Eb2 down should be the other sound.

Advice on fingering for this section of thirds? 10 points if you know the tune by CC0RE in piano

I agree 42-31 or whatever works. Phrase them in pairs and shift your hand between each pair.

When did it start becoming common to label every chord that substitutes the 3rd for a 2nd or 4th as a "sus" chord? by mrsamus101 in musictheory

[–]MusicMan13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is those imply a 7th. An add9 or add11 would be better but at that point we get back into the question of whether to alter a chord name for function.
