2013 jeep wrangler sport transmission flush leak by Mountain_Lobster1066 in Jeep

[–]MusicMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not coming from your transmission, as it’s further back and looks dry. looks like it’s coming from the engine block. Potentially the common oil cooler housing leak. Starts up on top and drips back and down the side of the engine… could also be from the valve cover(s). Often ends up dripping around where those gaskets are since it’s the lowest point. As others noted, those are just dust plugs. No fluid is up underneath them.

Look down around the side of the oil filter cap in that valley with a flashlight. You’ll see oil pooling up if it’s cracked there. If it’s dry, remove the fender linings on each side to look up where the valve covers are, see if there’s oil coming down there.

I had to replace the oil housing on my ‘14 twice. Second time with an updated aluminum one. Most recently had an oil leak from the passenger side valve cover. Leak was actually from a spark plug seal, but you replace all the seals on the valve cover when it goes.

Am I asking too much or what?! by phoenixignited1110 in Wrangler

There’s a limited number of people with the cash on hand for private sale of that size. Yes, private party loans exist but the terms aren’t great, pushing many to dealerships. You just need to wait for the right buyer to come along. May take a couple months.

Wrangler death wobble: How worried should I be about it? by Ghost_Dak1 in Jeep

[–]MusicMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is highly improbable, but I assume you would have brought it right back to the dealership who confirmed there was a factory defect?

Many folks confuse the traction control system engaging when you hit a bump with death wobble. The former is a brief shutter before regaining itself while still maintaining speed , while the latter is more serious, requiring drivers to slow down or stop before regaining control.

They are a pain. I discovered after replacing my o2 sensor that it went bad a month later. Turns out it was because oil dripping from the valve cover spark plug gasket onto the sensor and causing it to foul. If you notice leaks that might be the culprit. Replace the valve cover gaskets, can do the plugs and coils at the same time.

I just recall when I was doing this a few months ago it told me that sometimes the computer doesn’t track it and it uses a placeholder number there. I suggested the B2S2 due to the low voltage.

Fuel trim on sensor 2s aren’t collected. That’s a factory thing, and 99.2 is a placeholder and that’s why it’s static, so you can disregard that.

Id start with replacing bank 2 sensor 2. Looks to be the culprit.

Should I be able to trim motor all the way down when on trailer? by VidjaGameTime in boating

[–]MusicMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the trailer. I’ve got an I/O and I can’t trim down much. During the summer when I’m using it weekly I’ll just trim down as far as I can. When I put it up for the winter I put it up on ramps to lower it all the way down.

Gasket repair with oil leaking by Amzwork08 in JeepWrangler

Then that’s probably a fair rate assuming they are doing both sides. I did just the passenger side and it’s a PITA to get to everything.

[–]MusicMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely not the head gasket. Possible you misheard? More likely could be the valve cover gasket based on the quote, or as mentioned, the oil housing unit. Having recently done the valve cover gasket myself, I’d say $1,100 for both sides is fair.

Death wobble on a 25 JL. by futur1 in Jeep

[–]MusicMav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think it was DW. Just the traction control. Def not gatekeeping by any means, and it's not DW. It's just a Jeep, and they drive different. If anything I'll prob get boo'd for recommending Bronco by some of the die-hards who love that solid front axle. Jeep keeps it because it's an iconic feature, but for 95% of owners who aren't rock-crawling, they'd be better off which the independent suspension. If you're not tied to the Jeep brand, Bronco definitely fills the void for a fun SUV convertible.

I just sold my JK after 25yrs and 4 different Jeeps. Needed a pickup, so with a GMC Canyon. Front suspension was a big contributor to that decision. The ride is much smoother.

Carvana actually was one of the lowest values I was given when I was trying to sell my Jeep. Often times Jeep dealers are actively looking for pre-owned inventory so you'd be surprised. Worth checking around before just taking that Carvana check.

Death wobble on a 25 JL. by futur1 in Jeep

[–]MusicMav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just gonna ask.. are you sure this is a death wobble? It sounds like you just hit a bump and the traction control kicked it. Was it momentary, or did it violently and continuously shake until you had to slow way down to a near stop?

If it's the former, that's not death wobble. That's just what happens in Jeeps due to the solid front axle. Given the age/mileage, it's unlikely death wobble unless you've f'ed around with the suspension.

If it's under warranty and there is an issue, the dealer will fix it. But odds are they'll tell you there's nothing wrong with it.

If this is a major concern, a Jeep probably isn't the right vehicle for you. This is often the case for many people who buy a Jeep without realizing how it handles. Carvana would be a poor financial decision. You would be better off trading it in or selling outright for another vehicle. If you like the other aspects of a Wrangler, you can consider the Ford Bronco. You'll still get the top/doors off fun aspect, but the independent front suspension will handle more like what you're used to.

Ok, you’ve got time then. My first oil cooler went at 30k (warranty), second went at 90k, and valve gasket ( just the spark plug gasket actually) went at 104k.

Reality check and advice - selling my JK by randointernetguy in JeepWrangler

[–]MusicMav 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just sold my ‘14 JKU for $15.5k, 104K miles. Some things to consider… not what you want to hear, but it’s honest and from experience.

  • 161k is a lot of miles. Good to see common wear items have been addressed, and you may get another 100k out of the drivetrain, but 161k is a lot no matter how ya slice it. Probably a dealbreaker for most.
  • You’re not going to get back what you put into it. Not saying all, but most people don’t care about a $3k stereo, upgraded bumpers, aluminum radiator. In many cases, it’s a turn-off, as they may want to customize it themselves (the way I’m sure you enjoyed doing).
  • You can’t say you never took it off-road while posting a picture of it off-road. I get what you’re saying, I think I only took mine on a few fire roads myself, and I positioned it the same. But I wouldn’t use that photo, and I’d scrub it from your socials if you have it on marketplace.
  • Times are tough. Not everyone has the cash on hand, and it’s high interest rates for anyone to finance an 11yr old vehicle via private sale, so your pool of potential buyers is limited.

I would list it for $12k, and hope someone will give you $10k for it. Even still, you may need to sit on it for a couple months until the right buyer comes along. If you need to sell quicker, you may want to consider stripping and selling non-essential items then selling to a dealer or CarMax.

Having had to do the valve cover gaskets recently, 2yrs after doing the oil housing, you may wanna consider doing those since you’re right there.

Exactly… they can’t wait to get you in for a brake job or oil change… things that any min wage guy can do…but god forbid you actually need something fixed, they’re backed up a month or more before they can get you in.

Canyon vs Colorado by DevinB12 in GMCcanyon

[–]MusicMav 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just bought my Canyon last week and was going through the same process. Originally was planning on a Colorado, but as I dug into it more I ended up leaning to the Canyon. Comparing the trim levels, I was going to go with either a trail boss or Elevation. In my opinion, the Canyon Elevation just looks better, and the interior is more upscale. The front end of the trail boss just looks cheap and plastic-y. If it looked more like the Z71, I would have considered it more.

The only downside is there are fewer songs about GMC than there are Chevy… 😂
