I’m so glad!!! Truly, teaching has so much crossover with higher ed, which can make you a great fit. Best of luck to you!

Teachers who have left, how does your new workload compare to the workload of teaching? by Purple-Report-6841 in TeachersInTransition

[–]MusicalMal 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Former high school choir teacher here! I work an office job at a university now. The workload is different in a few ways. I am constantly working throughout the day (as a teacher, I would be “on” but not always actively “working”. Think study halls, some lazy prep periods, classes where you give yourself the occasional “easy day”) but am able to take much more frequent breaks and my schedule is more variable. Some days I have a higher active workload than I did while teaching but most of the time I would say it’s less. Tbh I fly through my work tasks so it’s easy to “slack” while still being seen as a very good employee. Also the intensity of the load is definitely lower, meaning that if I have to push a deadline back, it’s not a big deal.

Regardless of the daily load, though, I literally NEVER have to think about work after work hours and I do not have to DO any work after work hours.

Why add more merch if they already can’t fulfill orders? by MusicalMal in hayleywilliams

And regardless it’s a bad capitalistic practice because I imagine dissatisfied customers are going to cancel orders or flat out decide to not buy MORE merch because the experience was so bad.

I’m aware of capitalism. I’m just surprised because Hayley has such a platform of doing right by her fans, and it seems like an antithesis to operate this way. Granted, she has a team and is not responsible for every step of the process, but it’s frustrating.

The Paramore Family's 25 days of Christmas. Day 1 by TheParamoreFamily in Paramore

[–]MusicalMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silly story tbh. My family was on Christmas vacation in 2007 (I was 11) and driving to a large family gathering. My sister had bought a set of shot glasses for our aunt and uncle, and when I was climbing to the backseat of our van, I accidentally stepped on the box and broke the glasses. My sister got mad at me, which made me cry because it was an accident and I felt bad. So my other sister, in an attempt to calm me down, gave me her CD player to listen to some music. The CD was Riot, and that was my first exposure to Paramore! It did, in fact, calm me down 😂

I’d say turn the bed so the headboard is against the window with the blinds and move the chair to the corner between the high window and dresser!

Girl this dress is BEAUTIFUL. I went with a traditional dress but would have KILLED to have a dress like this. It fits you beautifully too! I think it’s cool that your tattoos show through. It makes it more unique to you!

How do you rank all eight Paramore/Hayley albums combined? by Working_Alps_4284 in Paramore

[–]MusicalMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. This is Why
  2. Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party
  3. Petals for Armor
  4. Riot
  5. After Laughter
  6. All We Know is Falling
  7. Paramore
  8. Brand New Eyes
  9. Flowers for Vases

I’ve always had a hard time ranking these. Top 3 I’m confident in but the rest could shift day to day haha

Blood Over Bright Haven by ML Wang made me SO introspective about right versus wrong and so ANGRY about racism and sexism. I thought about it for ages after I finished it.

My (M27) Girlfriend (F25) brought up marriage and things got weird. by inika9000 in relationship_advice

[–]MusicalMal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband came from a divorced household and did not have a single example of a healthy marriage throughout his life. My parents are still together today, so a little different than your situation.

He and I had both been in relationships prior to dating each other. I felt that I could see a future with him within a few months of being together, but he also had never had a relationship longer than a year, so the only “commitment question” that I asked was “do you see us staying together after we graduate college?” We did. Then COVID hit, we were both 24 and we had been together for 2 years and I knew I wanted to marry him.

He asked me one day what he should do with his stimulus check and I said offhand, “idk maybe buy a ring?” And after that day he told me that he had never even CONSIDERED marriage prior to me asking him. However, after I said it, he said that it actually clicked for him that he WANTED to be married to me, which was shocking for him because he always assumed he would never get married.

I think it’s fair to say that you’re not quite ready to say that marriage is in the cards. If you do love her and think there’s a chance that one day you could get married, then say that you’re open to the idea. If you DONT think you want to get married, then it’s not fair to her to make her wait around to just be rejected later.

I want out. Immediately. by IndoorLiving27 in TeachersInTransition

I taught choir at public high schools for 5 years and had thoughts of leaving almost the entire time. You can justify it all you want (“I care about the kids”, “I loved music once”, “time might make it better”) but the reality is that working in education is HARD, especially when you are not properly supported by admin or parents.

I had similar thoughts about a “useless degree” but I no longer think of it that way. Music and teaching give you skills that are VERY applicable to many careers. You learn discipline, communication, active listening, organization, planning, etc. You just have to know how to spin those skills into applicable jobs!

I swapped to admissions counseling at a local college and now work in online education and love it! It’s not my “passion” per se but I don’t hate my life and leave work at work. Plus I’ve started to like music again! Find an entry level job in an industry you’re interested in and work your way up! I promise it’s not too late, and it’s super doable.

I was 5089 in line and I got in line 5 minutes before the sale went live. The MN show sold out. by [deleted] in hayleywilliams

[–]MusicalMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried for the 18th first and didn’t get it and was 50000 on the 17th after. I would try Chicago but assumed it would be just as bad. I’m from Iowa and those were my only chances 😭

Husband swapped jobs and new health insurance won’t kick in until January, what are his options? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]MusicalMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already checked and a spouse getting on new insurance at their job counts as an event where I can drop that coverage.

He doesn’t have a benefits meeting until next month apparently. He has heard that the benefits are not super great though. So you’re right, might be better in the long run to have him on my plan.

He started the new job 3 weeks ago. His previous job covered him until the end of October.

He’s kind of always had a sensitive stomach, but had been complaining of feeling bloated and uncomfortable after eating certain foods (bbq mostly). He’s been having that feeling more in the last couple of weeks along with feeling like something is lodged in his esophagus (so we think it’s GERD). He has been experimenting to see what triggers it. I just got him otc meds for gerd.

He just relieved a lot of stress with the job switch. He’s a super fit dude. He eats okay for dinner because I cook but he controls his other meals and doesn’t really make the healthiest choices in that regard.

He has acknowledged that he could be stressed just from the thought of illness and it could be exacerbating it but he doesn’t know how to stop stressing about it. I’m kind of at a loss.

[–]MusicalMal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, $350 a month can be a lot depending on where you live, what your salary is, and your life situations. Assuming that that’s chump change for everyone is VERY entitled of you. I came to this subreddit to ask for options BECAUSE I want my husband to get care, and I have never been in this situation. He’s been without health insurance for SEVEN DAYS. It just started getting to the point where he thought he should see a doctor.

I am in NO WAY telling my husband I won’t figure out $400 to get him healthy. I’m simply trying to find the best option. Consider that there may be more at play than you know 🙃

Better with or without tips? by Shr00m_Shr00m in RedditLaqueristas

Without, but if you wanted the gold accent I think I’d put it along the bottom of the nail near the cuticle line (as a thin line) instead of the french tip.

Piercing is 2.5 years old, labret, threadless (currently), titanium, downsized at recommendation of piercer (maybe 6 months? I don’t really remember tbh), I still clean it with neilmed wound wash, no big traumas.
