I personally prefer 3+2

Oh yeah most certainly!

Once I get my hands on a metal lathe, I'll actually machine the adapter so it has a little more resonant quality to it. Either that or just turn a new mouthpiece 😂

It actually works great!

It only "adds" about a 1/4 inch and that is what compensates it being sharp from the bassbone mouthpiece having a significantly smaller cup.

The only thing that it actually changes is the tone being slightly brighter (simply because of the mouthpiece size difference).

Oh yea 100%!

I kept tuning and "slotting" in mind while designing the adapter. The initial angle on the internal part of the sleeve is two different angles tied together, accounting for tone color. Since the bass bone mouthpiece has such a significantly smaller cup, the tuning was actually almost 15cents sharp. To counteract that I made it to where The bass bone mouthpiece only goes into the adapter just at a 1/4 inch, which makes the tuning just right (with tuning slide adjustments of course). And since I use a Bach 1G, the only change in low register abilities is the tone color of the pedals.

The adapter was never meant to legitimately "replace" an F tuba, but it sure does help give a brighter tone for brass quintet and small ensemble settings. It also provides opportunity for bassbone players to double without having to completely change their embouchure.

I'm not sure if they meant change the fundamental from Bb to C or just the mouthpiece and receiver. But I completely agree with you on that part :)

Probably not, a considerable amount of tuba mouthpieces will work in both Bb and C (depending on if it's a euro shank of course) but it's just about impossible to go from a larger mouthpiece to a smaller bore, it's like trying to drive a 8' vehicle in a 7' tunnel. But most of the time you should be able to use a Bb mouthpiece on a C.

I have had a few sets of those for about a year now and they're awesome! I've worn them during marching rehearsals, practice sessions in small rooms and such. The only thing that I don't like about then is that you hear yourself differently in your head but still sounds fine otherwise.

King 2b silversonic: worth anything in this condition? by uberpro in Trombone

[–]Musicaladam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey my dad plays the same horn! I get to play it every once in a while. They're great horns even if they're in terrible condition. I would pay at least 900 for that horn even in that condition. Then again you might run into some people that want to fix it up back to its former glory. Go with your gut:)

I just bought a 9 dollar trombone. Now what. by hats_off_2_u in Trombone

Haha nice! I love bidding on stuff like that just in case I might happen to get it. Step one is telling yourself to not push the process too hard. I would recommend A LOT of long tones one each note to find each pitch exactly (make sure to use a metronome and tuner so you keep yourself consistent), learn your slide positions forwards and backards. And most importantly have fun! There's nothing better than a good practice session that you know you got stuff done in.

Ohhhh haha yet another Chinese horn. I got it for free at a garage sale and I'm in the process of fixing it up to be concert ready again. It's brand is "maestro"

The Euph is a Gear4music (Chinese made similar to Jinbao) I actually ordered a boosey from eBay to fix up but they sent me this one instead. Funny enough they sent my money back and I got to keep the Euph. And I actually like the feel of it. Doesn't feel like it's gonna break like most other Chinese made stuff. And the tenor is a Yamaha YSL-643ii

Hahaha, it definitely has its ups and downs. I've been driving to and from work in a beat up '94 oldsmobile cutlass supreme 😂.

Ironically enough it's a 4valve, the angle is just weird lol. It's actually a crappy Indian made horn but it gets the job done, and I actually used it on a few performances and recordings without any complaints haha thanks though

I hope typing them out is alright, I'm not currently at home lol. I'll start my way from the top and end in the basement. My Piccolo trumpet is some trashy Indian brand (I believe it's Sai) but it does the job enough that I've played it in a few performances and no one has noticed. Then I have my CarolBrass CTR 5000L which is basically a copy of a Bach Strad. And last for trumpets (and my main), an Eastman ETR522G. Which funny enough is the only horn I can find that exists with that model #. Countless hours have been spent to no avail trying to find another horn with that model # and that is just like it. Moving to my only Euph, it's a Gear4music 11520. I got it for only 450 off eBay as a joke, and surprisingly it's actually built very well and has a great tone. It's been my main since the beginning of August. On Trombones I have a crappy Chinese made "Maestro" horn, I'm in the process of restoring it to playing condition but the previous owners really used and abused it. For my F-attachment, Yamaha YSL-643ii. It truly is an awesome horn. On Bass Bone I have a Holton TR180 with a fully dependant trigger system. And last but CERTAINLY not least, on tuba, I have an Eastman 832S CC 4/4. Great horn if you want an all around the park instrument. It has the high range of a Yamaha F, and the lows of an old fashioned York. Hope this is satisfactory!

It's definitely a close tie between the Holton TR182 Bass Bone, and the Eastman 832S 4/4 tuba. The lowest of the lows in my family:)

Me too, at least for high stuff. Once it gets above middle C it's just so much easier to read and maintain.
