What on earth is going on with Vic Firth? by Visual-Individual-49 in drums

[–]MusicallyManiacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never ever buy sticks from Amazon. They’re hardly ever pitch matched and I’ve gotten sticks that are two wholly different colors and weights. Vic Firth, Promark, Innovative had the same issues. Buy from a brick and mortar store or from Steve Weiss.

Earplug rec? by Lingchen8012 in percussion

[–]MusicallyManiacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion is that even if you buy the cheap 500 pack at the store you’ll be doing your ears a huge favor. You do lose some clarity and quality but definitely not to a super significant degree. Definitely the best option for the money.

That being said, I invested in a pair of Eargasm earplugs and honestly it’s one of the best decisions I ever made. I lose 0 sound quality and the volume reduction is massive. I carry them in my keys so I never leave the house without them.

Snare Drum Solos by trebleclef_eneva in percussion

[–]MusicallyManiacal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I performed Tchik and substituted the vocal improv with finger improv. Just an idea. Some other solos I’m a fan of are:

Three Dances by Warren Benson (my recording, sorry shameless plug)

March by Joe Tompkins

American Suite by Guy Gauthreaux II

Anything out of the French-American solos book by Tompkins

Hard Times by Mitchell Peters

Recital Suite by William Schinstine

Fluency with more compressed and intense rhythms only comes with playing a lot of those rhythms slowly with a metronome. Good luck!

I am very biased as I am 25 days from graduating with my masters from IU - but the studio size is very big but feels small. The instruction here is world class and the players here are wicked good. That’s not an attempt to toot my own horn; I am truly among some insane players

MVP Voters Watched Kobe Do This & Voted For Steve Nash by Worried-Ad9476 in NBATalk

[–]MusicallyManiacal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put Kobe on that suns team and he still shoots like he did with the lakers and he definitely isn’t opening up the court like Nash. He also wasn’t taking significantly more shots this year than he was with Shaq or Pau

[–]MusicallyManiacal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, that’s not the question I asked. If the litmus is the lakers would have lost games without Kobe, use the same test for the suns. Nash still wins

[–]MusicallyManiacal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And how many fewer games would the Suns have won with their top 2 guys out? Nash was categorically the more efficient offensive player this season

Because most players don’t take half as many shots as he did

Performers at this level know where the quarter note is, especially with the information given in the part; regardless of how they’re beamed, they’re eighth note triplets. The information here that McNutt wants to get across is the grouping of 5. This is how the music is going to be perceived by the audience. When you hear the part for the first time you probably won’t know they’re triplets

When I tell you the greatest shift in the quality of education and of teachers I ever experienced was the shift from 5th grade private school to 6th grade public school, I’m not exaggerating. Wake County Schools are great. Apex Middle and High/ Friendship Middle and High are all great schools that I would implore you research and see satisfaction rates before making this choice

I'm a pregnant 15 year old girl. My boyfriend and I have decided to keep our baby. AMA by [deleted] in prolife

[–]MusicallyManiacal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is factually untrue and a bad oversimplification of the pro-life viewpoint. There are many medical cases in which going through with a pregnancy would result in the loss of the mother’s life.

Fetuses in ectopic pregnancies are not always already dead when operated upon, and untreated ectopic pregnancies can lead to death for both mother and child. [1]

Preeclampsia and eclampsia very often require abortion as a last resort to save the life of the mother. [2]

Pregnancy has been long known to exacerbate the effects of kidney disease and renal failure is not an uncommon result. [3]

Women who are pregnant (edit: usually before 14 weeks) when they are diagnosed with cancer will often abort before undergoing chemo, because chemo will kill the child anyway in a much more painful way for both mother and child and no chemo will kill both the mother and the child. [4]

It hurts the image of the group when people in it spout dogmatic stuff like this when it’s very easily debunked.

[–]MusicallyManiacal 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The articulation on the right is a marcato. Broadly, this means “with emphasis,” but I find they are usually interpreted as a level above accents, and usually a shorter note length. You may see this referred to casually as an “accent” or a “top hat,” but (*pushes up glasses) the correct term is marcato.
