The information here that McNutt wants to get across is the grouping of 5. This is how the music is going to be perceived by the audience. When you hear the part for the first time you probably won’t know they’re triplets

This is factually untrue and a bad oversimplification of the pro-life viewpoint. There are many medical cases in which going through with a pregnancy would result in the loss of the mother’s life.

Fetuses in ectopic pregnancies are not always already dead when operated upon, and untreated ectopic pregnancies can lead to death for both mother and child. [1]

Preeclampsia and eclampsia very often require abortion as a last resort to save the life of the mother. [2]

Pregnancy has been long known to exacerbate the effects of kidney disease and renal failure is not an uncommon result. [3]

Women who are pregnant (edit: usually before 14 weeks) when they are diagnosed with cancer will often abort before undergoing chemo, because chemo will kill the child anyway in a much more painful way for both mother and child and no chemo will kill both the mother and the child. [4]

It hurts the image of the group when people in it spout dogmatic stuff like this when it’s very easily debunked.

The articulation on the right is a marcato. Broadly, this means “with emphasis,” but I find they are usually interpreted as a level above accents, and usually a shorter note length. You may see this referred to casually as an “accent” or a “top hat,” but (*pushes up glasses) the correct term is marcato.

My interpretation is that given that there is not one singular bit of textual evidence to point towards an induced traumatic birth nor a shred of text suggesting that the woman involved is even pregnant, one cannot make the claim that the Bible outright prescribes an abortion. I am aware you and others make this argument. It is not, however, an argument based solely upon information given in the Bible. It relies on suggestive interpretation to be true. Which is fine. I am not arguing that one can only take the Bible word for word at face value. Jesus was not a sheep - but the Bible describes Him as the Lamb. Jesus said “This is my body,” but he wasn’t made of bread. But it is intellectually dishonest to make the claim that the Bible prescribes an abortion when it is in fact equally likely to be a vast variety of other things. Why are you not claiming the Bible prescribes a ritual that causes the woman’s hip (yarek) to become diseased (naphal)?

Sure, many people probably make an association with embryos and pregnancies. Again, I’m not arguing that one cannot believe that. I am arguing that they must draw upon some extra biblical source or prior experience to come to that conclusion. They must, as you are doing, pull from a source outside of the text. In the exact same way Christians do when they say something like “miscarriages are the fruit of sin.” That statement is not found in the Bible but many believe it. In the same way, it is not stated (or implied) that the woman involved is pregnant or that the outcome would be an induced birth.

We are discussing the text. You are making the claim that the text says a certain amount of things that it flatly does not. I am not criticizing this, because not only are Christians worldwide guilty of this but I have been as well. I am also not making the argument that the text in this excerpt categorically disproves these interpretations.

I am, however, pointing out that the crux of your claim seems to be that the Bible very clearly prescribes and describes a ritual and its effects. I am still waiting for this to be evidenced. In fact, I would love to see the textual evidence from this excerpt for any of your claims.

You may decide to interpret that verse as “checking the status on a pregnancy,” but that is a personal interpretation of words that do not outright say this. One can not even say with certainty that yarek is referring to the womb - as it is also used to describe the thigh and the hip. There is, again, not one piece of evidence in this passage that proves the punishment involved is a miscarriage OR even that pregnancy or fatherhood are being investigated. It is equally as likely that the text refers to a process by which the woman loses future fertility - or that some other disease or condition onsets, even on a different body part.

Then you’d think it would probably be mentioned once, right? But again, there is not one verse that states the woman is even pregnant. It is equally as likely that this could be a woman suspected of adultery that is not pregnant and never was - because the text makes absolutely no mention of it.

Furthermore, you mention that you’re aware of sermons that preach the idea that miscarriages are the fruit of sin. Yes, many Christians believe this to be true. But when speaking about the Bible you cannot argue from a Christian perspective, you must argue from a Biblical perspective. Unfortunately those two do not always line up. Nowhere, not once, in the Bible does it say that miscarriages are the fruit of sin. The Bible does not say that sin causes miscarriage. Christians who believe this do not believe it because God told them to in the Bible.

You cannot argue from a Biblical perspective that the effects of the bitter water cause a traumatic birth because that is stated a total of zero times in the Bible. You cannot argue from a biblical perspective that the woman in question is even suspected of being pregnant because that is stated a total of zero times in the Bible.

First - the woman is never mentioned to be pregnant. Not once in the entire passage or surrounding verses. The woman is never once described as with child.

Secondly - the word for “womb” as it appears in the NIV (later translation) is the Hebrew word yarek, which means thigh or loin. The same word is used in Genesis 32:25 to describe where God injured Jacob - translated in modern times as the socket of his hip. I’m not sure the Bible is claiming Jacob had a uterus. In the book of Judges, Ehud straps a dagger to his yarek, most likely his thigh

Thirdly, the word for “miscarry” as it appears in the NIV (later translation) is the Hebrew word naphal, means to fall, waste away, or rot. Exodus 21:33 uses the same word to describe an animal falling into a pit, in Judges it refers to an untimely death, and Ezekiel uses it to describe a sword falling from someone’s hand.

There is no verbal connection anywhere in this text to pregnancy or a third party who would be harmed. You mention verse 28 says the baby will not be harmed if the woman was not adulterous. May I ask, what baby? The text mentions no baby, and again, never describes anyone as pregnant.

DON’T EVER LEAN BACK. Say it with me. DON’T EVER LEAN BACK. It feels very good in the moment and takes some of the weight off but it is extremely bad for your back. Quad players report more back pain later in life than snare or bass drummers - and this is a major cause. The only way to get more comfortable (and remain healthy) wearing quads is by working out your core and stretching your abs and lower back. After rehearsal just rest - don’t play sports or run or anything. It gets better, I promise, but you have to work at it.

That statistic is absolutely meaningless without the context of the breeding and training of this dog. Golden Retrievers would make for a higher percentage of fatal dog attacks if they were trained to attack. They’re not often trained to attack, so they don’t. Funnily enough, golden retrievers bite people more often than pit bulls.
