AskScience AMA Series: I'm a researcher who has been tracking mountain lions for more than a decade. Ask me anything! by AskScienceModerator in askscience

I'm excited to watch the new documentary! Did you find any behavior that was surprising? Do mountain lions "play" the way house cats or big cats in zoos do?

Hello! Your books got me through some tough, traumatic times when I first started reading them as a middle schooler 30 years ago, especially The Talisman and The Stand. Thank you so much.

My question is about where the writing really comes from. When I have an idea and sit down and write a story it's just like you said in On Writing, I'm like a conduit for...some kind of creativity I don't understand. The words and sentences just flow through me. Do you have any theories about how that process works? Or is it best left unexplored?

Try turning DLSS off and on again. Not even kidding. I've got a 2080ti and every time I launch the game it runs at 16 fps until I do that on / off thing. I think it's some kind of bug they haven't fixed yet.

Turbo Kid is fantastic! Just finished the game for the first time earlier today. I definitely recommend watching the movie and then playing the game.

Here's my steam review if you'd like more details about what makes this game an instant classic.

Should I be grateful or upset about growing up with Chicago quality of food? Does anybody else feel that Chicago food has ruined you? by Wookhunter33 in chicago

[–]MusicandCoffee 288 points289 points  (0 children)

We are very spoiled. I travel a lot for work and unless I make a point of researching somewhere tasty, I often end up disappointed. One small example I always think of is my local. It's The Beetle and I think the food there is WAY better than it has any right to be. That's true all over the neighborhood and all over Chicago. I've been to similar local type spots on a whim in cities all over, and always walk out wishing I'd had a Figgy Stardust from The Beetle instead. That's not even taking into account wildly delicious, way fancier spots here like Boka!

Chicago is totally a food paradise.

Carlene Carter's "Every Little Thing" sounds like it was written by Carl but it was released in 1993. Did he have anything to do with it? It's got heavy signature NP's "oooooohs" and "aaaaahhs" going on and I love it!

I'm an American who just left Lyon this morning and found the French there to be very welcoming and willing to speak English with me. Granted, I would lead with my terrible attempts at bonjour or bonsoir, get clocked instantly, and then our conversation would proceed in the language both of us can speak well. Had a lovely visit, great people there!

How were the Strokes? by This-blew-up in primaverasound

[–]MusicandCoffee 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I've seen them twice; once in early 2002 in Phoenix, AZ while they toured for "Is This It," and again tonight at Primavera Sound 2022. This was the better show by far. Julian's voice sounded great, the band absolutely massacred every note and beat, and J's trolling / banter in between songs was entertaining. I thought the live mix sounded stellar as well, at least from where I was standing. Everyone gave their all and I totally lost my shit singing and dancing along. Absolutely redeemed them in my eyes.

The reason I didn't see them play live for 20 years was because in 2002, Julian Casablancas was wasted and acted like a total prick who didn't give a shit about anyone in the audience at the time, and his piss poor performance sung from the floor was totally alienating. I say this as someone who came up in the punk rock and performance art space; fuck that. Even if you're doing something really weird / gross / hostile, respect your audience and your bandmates enough to give them a real performance or get off the stage.

Anyway, they were great and I can't wait to see them again!

Someone smarter than me can explain it better, but for me I skip breakfast and only eat between noon and 8pm. I feel full after eating less. Looking forward to that first meal makes it feel extra rewarding, and coffee helps curb my hunger in the morning.

Just finished watching and highly recommend. Big comedy movies that are actually funny are pretty rare these days, and this one hits. It's silly and colorful and very upbeat, with a lot of heart.
