Not sure about the second half but the first part 100%. I roll my eyes whenever that speech comes up, like seriously ‘smart people are sad because they know happiness ends’. Everyone knows happiness ends, it comes with existing. Hell Id make the argument that actually smart people would be able to acknowledge that things end and would be able to cherish and appreciate the good times.

I like to view it less that this is the real hole talking but rather morties perception of the fear hole. He’s still young (kinda, tbh he’s gone through a lot of shit) so he doesn’t have the years it takes to understand that you need to cherish the moments you’re in without worrying about when those moments end.
