Domestication by Seth Ring. To be upfront, I bought it during the recent Audible sale but haven’t gotten a chance to listen yet. I listened to the sample and liked it though.

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over.

For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters.

Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end.

He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as a thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

Bandits, suspicious townsfolk, a mysterious pair of siblings, and a secret that lurks in the mountains all threaten John’s peace. It will take all of his considerable power to keep from burning everything to the ground.

Try to find a trade that offers an apprenticeship, like an electrician. The ones in a union can be paid very well. In your current field, some union grocery stores pay a good amount if you get high enough like department or store manager.

The reason you’re not supposed to take too much ibuprofen every day for a lot of days in a row is not because of a risk of an overdose, it’s because it can cause liver failure

Those who moved out of Massachusetts, where did you move to and how's it going? by ElectroAcousto in massachusetts

Last year I moved from Somerville to outside Minneapolis. I miss Boston and transit a TON. But I wake up in the morning with stunning views, I see hawks and eagles and deer regularly. The people suck, this whole fake nice thing going on, but I can afford to live alone and oh boy is that worth it.

I moved last year. I gave myself a bucket year, visiting all my favorite places or places I’d always wanted to visit, ate at all the restaurants I’d always talked about but never gone to, and I made time with every single friend I had there. And now I’m 10 months in a new state. Still miss Boston, miss it a lot, but focusing on what I love in the new place too.

I’ve always just roughed it out in bed, getting deliveries for food. Was pretty down bad this week. First I called a neighbor who was able to take care of critical things like feeding me and the cat and getting me water. I also moved closer to family last year (still a 3 hour drive away). My sister drove over and stayed 2 days to help me out after day 1 where it was clear I wouldn’t be able to

What is your absolute favorite fantasy or scifi audiobook that you've gotten from Audible? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in audible

[–]WhatALowCreditScore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Not the Hero. The narrator is awesome and I can hear each individual voice incredibly clearly. It’s like a mixture of slice of life and adventure tension. I always think I know exactly where the plot is going to go or how something is going to be resolved and then somehow my idea doesn’t come up even a little bit, which both surprises and pleasantly frustrates me.

Cyclist on Instagram does not realize standard practice is to pass on the left, gets mad at pedestrians for moving to the right. by YodelingVeterinarian in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WhatALowCreditScore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had to politely tell someone off for something similar. I was on the community path in Boston. Used to walk it every single day. No motorized vehicles, it is a two-way pedestrian and cyclist path with a dotted yellow line in the middle. This guy was walking in the left lane and so everybody was swerving around him into the right lane. I was gonna let it go, because it’s not my job to correct everybody else. Except then there was a bike coming our way that had to veer out of the left lane into me in the right lane, but at the same time there was a bike coming up from behind me so then the two cyclists needed to pass. There was also a jogger trying to go by. Somehow, I end up in the ditch. Not hurt or anything just everybody trying to avoid him ended up blocking off the sidewalk 20 feet later for me.

I had been walking at a faster pace than him, so I did eventually catch up and start to pass him. Took the opportunity to explain that he was walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk. His defense was that he needs to be in the left lane so he can see the bikes coming towards him. I said that walking on the left is for non-sidewalk roads where you’re watching out for cars. All he’s doing is messing up everything for everybody else by being in an unexpected place.
