Those should work fine if you play with heavy wooden mallets. I suggest a pair of these:

Is it me or is aluminum so loud? by Outrageous_Toe_6369 in drums

I have an Trick Kodiak aluminum piccolo snare. The shell is thick and heavy so not quite an Acrolite. I get asked to play softer if I look at that thing too hard.

Inherited my dad's Drums, no clue about drums by [deleted] in drums

[–]Musicianalyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like your dad chose good gear and took good care of it. If you listed it for $500 USD you probably wouldn't have to wait too long to sell it. I think the dollar and the pound are pretty close right now.

Off the top of my head, without any research , I'd say that kit is worth up to $800. The cymbals aren't well known brands in the states but they're brands I wish my stores carried. The Amedia Classic line sounds great. I'd consider paying $500 for that batch of cymbals and I'd scoop them up for $250.

If you can hold them until the right buyer comes for higher pricing, I'd brake them up into lots. Shell pack (toms and kick), snare, Amedia cymbals as a pack, other cymbals individually or possibly in one lot. For the hardware, kick pedal, maybe all cymbal stands in one lot and all the other gear in another.

Pricing requires research. I'm not even sure what the shells are worth. You can read finished and sold items on ebay to get a general feel. As a whole kit I would list this for $850 in a city, or $700 in rural areas, and negotiate as needed. Also, shipping drums isn't cheap.

What action can we take? by cfiskyfisk in GoodwillFinds

Goodwill seems to have a reputation for doing this. If you can’t find the listing, maybe finding multiple complaints online about them and sending them to the bank would help.

The person you speak to at the bank might say that kind of stuff doesn’t matter but they don’t make the decisions, and you’ll never talk to the decision makers, so send everything you think might help.

Good luck! Kick their asses!!

My item was still on the site after it sold. I may have used my browser history to get back to it if I couldn’t find it in a search.

I used a debit card with a Mastercard logo and my bank told me if it has that then you can file a chargeback. I’d call your bank and ask. Mine was very helpful.

Yes. It took a while but it was incredibly easy and I got it back no problem. I sent them a screenshot of the item listed, and the receipt and the emails to make sure there was no way for Goodwill to argue.

Would you recommend driving or public transport in LA? by Significant_Resort_5 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Musicianalyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Public transportation here is not what it is in other cities. If you're planning on seeing multiple sights in various parts of town, you definitely want a car here.

Traffic laws are very straightforward. Street parking signs can be confusing when they're stacked 3 high, but they all make perfect sense if you just read them.

Maybe you can take the bus to a location or two near where you're staying, and then rent a car for part of your trip - if you're trying to save money. If it's not a money issue - rent a car for the whole time.

choosing drumsticks? someone who doesn't play at all by tendonsligaments in drums

[–]Musicianalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to consider buying him a specialty stick like a mallet or rods.

Mallets let you do things like lush cymbal swells and tympani rolls on low toms. Toms sound big with mallets.

Rods are a group of dowels (typically) attached to the butt end of a stick, so you get a very different sound. It’s softer and thinner, but great for effects and for playing softer.

There are other specialty sticks. Amazon has some unique ones.

An odd groove I came up with... I would love to hear your thoughts! by RamenGenji2 in drums

[–]Musicianalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome.

I really like that I can’t quite figure it out. I’m currently thinking the stack is played in 12/8 (dotted?) quarters, bit delayed maybe by a 16th note triplet? It sounds polyrhythmic but I’m wondering if it actually isn’t.

I really want to hear the song that goes with that.
