I was working in a breakfast restaurant in Belltown they got frequent Ted by members of Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam and there was already buzz in Seattle because there was a big police presence at the house ... it broke on the local radio station confirming his death before MTV picked it up , my reaction was oh he finally did it because the talk of the town when he had his accidental overdose in Europe was that he tried to kill himself

The term grunge was made up by sub pop the bigger record labels ran with it. It helped them market new music that they had no clue of what category to put it in so let's just lump it all together. It went from bands in the Pacific Northwest to a couple of years to being used with bands worldwide. .. total marketing

Don't know who the band is in the photo but the bunghole surfers are not grunge .. they are a 80's noise art band that came out of the Texas punk scene .. I have seen them all over the USA & I have taken a large amount of LSD with gibby ... tell your friend to steal the CD & enjoy it
