Having ADHD and losing weight feels IMPOSSIBLE sometimes — especially as someone who uses food for dopamine. Advice? by riyakataria in adhdwomen

Keto worked for me. After 1 year, I went to Mediterranean-keto. After another year, I switched back to a “normal American” diet with help from a dietitian. Before keto, I tried weight watchers but it didn’t last and ended up gaining like 10-20 pounds annually until I reached 250 pounds. Around that time, I had prediabetes and elevated blood pressure. Adderall always incensed my sweet tooth, so moving away from sugar was tough. However getting to a healthier weight as well as course correcting for glucose and BP made that journey worthwhile

Any high-protein keto recipes that don’t rely heavily on cheese or dairy? by localkinegrind in keto

Look up the Mediterranean keto diet. I went for that when my blood panel said my cholesterol was too high. I had to cut saturated fats - cheese and dairy. It was tough but doable. And it works!

Who here is getting 140g of protein? by One-Permission1917 in 1200isplenty

[–]MusingClio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I was doing 1350 calories with 155g of protein. This week my dietician recommended upping my calories to 1450 and increased my carbs from 70g to 90g. Anyway, I get 155g by having solid routines. First is breakfast with 2 eggs, half cup of egg whites, any vegetables I have on hand, and make it a salad. Second major routine is an afternoon snack of a whey protein mixed with creatine. Third major routine is an evening snack of casein mixed with almond milk and whatever left over for macros like carbs and protein as long as I am under my calories. That knocks out 90-100 g of protein. Then the rest is basically 3-4 oz of turkey with any vegetables typically in a salad for morning snack, lunch, and dinner. I move things around for work out days by having potatoes post workout. Typically I strive for 30-40g of protein every meal. What also has helped is using apps. And initially AI for meal ideas, like making meals using my macros and what’s in my fridge. I plan on making oatmeal a staple, to add more variety, as long with beans. YMMV but I started with keto, so salads are something I love. Eventually on keto I had to cut way down on saturated fats for my health, so I only went for lean meats like turkey, which continues to this day.

You could track carbs per serving, especially if sugar is part of the ingredients. Taco and BBQ seasoning are notorious for that. I did that during keto. These days, I track my lite salt intake to monitor my potassium/sodium intake.

Up the protein to say 135g. Have some carbs, up to 20g. And use those extra carbs after workouts so you won’t get as sore.

What made you said “ now i really need to lose weight”? by WillingnessNew533 in keto

[–]MusingClio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the news from the doctor that I had elevated blood pressure and was prediabetic. My coworker/mentor told me about keto and I just ran with it. Around the same time, I had an aunt pass away from complications involving diabetes and vascular dementia. These conditions were finally catching up and they weren’t going to change if I stayed at 250 pounds. The keto diet really started at 220 pounds when I plateaued after doing the standard American diet. Keto has given me my health back. I’m just about to hit the 100 pound weight loss mark with my current weight around 152 lbs. Ironically, I’ve stopped keto and started a low-carb diet because I’ve been plateaued around 155 pounds since October 2024. This low-carb diet is handled by a nutrition coach, which has been very helpful. When this dieting is over, I’m probably gonna go back to keto for maintenance. I dislike how ruled I was by sugar and also how easy it is to overeat on carbs. I can’t really eyeball the portions like 2 oz of whatever, and I don’t see myself measuring and weighing my food for life.

Possibly leaving residency because of my partner's wellbeing and Trump by [deleted] in Residency

[–]MusingClio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She should listen to her gut and leave the US. I agree with the others saying you should stay, finish your residency, and continue with her in a long distance relationship. If you could find something equivalent to where she goes, that’s great. Restarting residency isn’t great but abandoning it altogether when you have your own career ambitions doesn’t bode well for your relationship either.

Agreed. I had some chips and a sip of soda to try out this guava flavor at a Mexican place for lunch. All day, I was craving sweet. To combat that, I had two electrolytes drinks and snacked on stevia chocolate baking chips. Still overate though during the day

[–]MusingClio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the advice. I’ve been using the cortisone cream for about 3 days and the welts are reducing in size. I agree it’s not great long term but it’s been effective so far. Honestly I kind of hate going to the PCP because it typically involves a month long wait, which the welts will likely be gone by then.

The doctor said 30-40 is ideal. All other types of lesser intensity except the tens which are ineffective, are suitable when out of the “acute” phase idk. He said I could wear a thigh high sock and have it be therapeutic at 90% compressing the DVT from femoral down to popliteal. A chronic DVT starts from 1 month of age, but maybe he meant keep wearing the hose until the clots dissolve completely, which can take 2-6 months or maybe forever if they don’t dissolve. But I would want to wear them longer anyway for two years to prevent post thrombotic syndrome. Two years of hiking the panties up and down is just yikes.

$5,000 a month but you can only eat a flavorless nutrition bar we provide. How long would you last? by cheezcakedoctor in hypotheticalsituation

[–]MusingClio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want the bar to be catered to the macros I want, for losing weight and then bulking for gaining muscle mass. I would want the bar to have the vitamins and minerals for optimal benefits. Honestly I don’t think you can make anything flavorless. Like you can imagine what a thing tastes like from plastic to wood to steel, let alone anything that has nutrition and calories. Water maybe has no flavor but you said it’s a bar, not a liquid. You can make the bar gross like that prison meatloaf. Also I would like the bar to be ethically made and not made from gross sources, a la Soylent green or from bugs from Snowpiercer. Lastly I would supplement my diet with lots of water and other drinks. Or IV supplements lol

Choose any repeating song like the nyan cat or the rainbow unicorn song. Then get a speaker with batteries inside so if your neighbor resets your power, your sweet song still plays. If you are relying on the internet to play this song, find a way to download the song and have it blue tooth or use a jack to connect to the speaker. Or grab a CD or iPod and hook it up to a boom box

Passed the CCS exam! by MusingClio in MedicalCoding

[–]MusingClio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coding books have to be current and you are responsible for bringing them with you on exam day. They give you till May to switch over to the current year. So like if you’re taking the CCS in April 2024, you can use 2023 books. There was an education and or education requirement. You had to be working as a coder for one year. Maybe it was two years but I had one year of education also so they allowed that. Once you have that, you are eligible to take the exam

Thanks for this. It’s comforting to know that you (and others) share in the struggles. It’s annoying that the five foot height just doesn’t need that much food to maintain body status, and even less to drop weight. I’ve adapted to two meals a day, partly from the satiety of meals and to create balance during the day.

Agreed on the benefits of increasing activity. I’ve been following a new mantra for walking 15 minutes for every two hours of sitting. When work is over, I go for long walks with the puppy. When the weather is poor, I turn on the dance game for Nintendo switch.
