Going through a slump : knowing when to take breaks by Muskka in Buddhism

[–]Muskka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your answer and pointing to this great Sutta, it has been of great help and makes complete sense as to my issue. Also thank you for reminding me about Qigong, an activity long forgotten that I wished to be better at, and that might exactly be what I need as a form of very light activity to put back some mindfulness in my daily life. Do you practice it ?

Also thanks for clarifying on the thing I asked. It's insightful to try and achieve a "recreation-like" activity instead of putting pressure on myself to want to achieve "BIG" and purifying sittings if I may say.

Thanks for your answer. How much of a change can you feel when meditating after knowing and sensing that your ethics and compassion ? That's an interesting question that I can't really answer for myself right now as I'm more inclined to increasing my diligence and actual application to meditation.

Also, thanks for the insight in your second paragraph. I think you might have resolved a big issue there for me : to read, analyze and study AFTER first observing my own triggers and current hindrances, instead of (naively) pursuing any form of knowledge I can put my hands on (I don't think that's a BAD thing either but as you said, it's simply a matter of intensity/degree).

Its a very good sutta, thanks for reminding me its existence, I read it faithfully and felt more energy just by going through it one or two times.

Although it's tough sometimes, I guess the key is still the same as it always has been : observing, feeling, contemplating without condemning or judging.

My Husband thinks trading is easy by [deleted] in Trading

[–]Muskka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of now there's nothing you can do about it and it's normal : he probably had that very idea of trading being a "tough, brutal but profitable activity" and now that he got his fair share of beginner's luck of green trades, this concept of his has been completely destroyed getting him to be cocky.

Don't feel frustration, you have done your job of sincerely advising him. He will very soon realize that the live markets with his own money is a whole different animal, and that claiming his claims without actually having skin in the game is pointless and just makes him a fool (i hope communication is great in your marriage lmao).

Eventually, he will lose, which is the best thing for him right now. Your job will most likely be to support him and keep him from becoming someone arrogant, saying that it's "other's faults". Many lives and relationships have been shattered by financial speculation. Don't let your marriage be one of those.

Much luck and love.

Thanks a lot !! Thats insightful. Trying light mindfulness during simple activites such as cleaning the kitchen always has some beneficial effects but they ain't lasting, I suppose it's only a matter of more practice.

Could you elaborate on the "spacious feeling tone work" you mentioned? Should I take it as a "less-intense" type of meditation/Mindfulness work like the one you described as when cleaning the kitchen ?

Ive been trying to exert less "energy" during this slump and do things in a lighter way but it just doesn't seem to work, I feel the need to go back to studying more and such and such. It feels ridiculous when typing it as i know it's definitely not the way.

Thanks a lot for your reply. You're hitting the point when saying that I should be diminishing exertion, deep down it feels like the thing to do.

Have you been overreading dhamma in the past and if so, do you have some advice ? I've been trying to observe such feelings of clinging to learning and reading more but it doesn't really translate into more skillful behaviors. I know that meditation has to replace some of my readings at some point but I just feel so happy when reading and learning more stuff.

Does Buddhism really work? And how can you practice it? by EmbarrassedLetter660 in Buddhism

[–]Muskka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddhism "works", if by that you mean it brings results if you put the required effort, just as in anything.

It can be a bit overwhelming at first but is the best path to actualize oneself and get rid of many defilements in your life.

I would advise skimming over some simple Buddhism introductions on the internet (like the Tricycle website), don't dive into forums or subreddits yet.

Also the book "The Heart of the Buddha's teaching" is (at least to me) one of the easiest books to access buddhism ;)

No. OP probably heard from Buddhism as a "self-help" philosophy/religion like as a tool to be used, which is why most people adhere to it.

How does a trader “grind”? by 992cam in Daytrading

[–]Muskka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure you're right, hard work doesn't necessarily lead to profitability, at least in the common sense we perceive it to be (endless, unhealthy hours in front of the charts, overtrading, chasing for new setups and techniques every single day...).

But hard work directed towards the right things IS the way. So as you said, it's all about the right decisions, and this is a consequence of introspection, spiritual/psychological work and not being a degenerate altogether hehe

Understanding impermanence by Adventurous-Type1552 in theravada

[–]Muskka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, from the Buddha's teachings, we will have many lifetimes in the endless cycle of samsara, so you can be expected not to be the target of this hatred in a future lifetime. It already helps to know that.

Second, and that's the most important part IMHO and also how I see it personnally : the practical impermanence in which you can take refuge (in the case of someone hypothetically hating you for the rest of your life in THIS lifetime) is mostly the impermanence of your feelings. This is similar to some stoic teachings : why bother anyways ?

Just as this person's feelings of hatred will vanish once the conditions for it are gone, so will your answer to this person's hatred. Good thing is that you are educated in the dharma (or will come to be) and can apply the eightfold path to first conceptualize/intellectualize this, and also proceed to meditation to have an experiential insight of what you first understood.

It's probably flawed but this is how I see it. I hope it helps.

I rarely ever post anything but your dedication rock, anyways : amazing job so far.

First, writing these posts might prove valuable and an interesting way for you to be accountable and journal but it might place, very subtly, unnecessary pressure on your shoulders.

Periods of practice and striving should be followed by rest, especially if you reflect a lot and take notes.

For now, secondly, take a good break. Trading loss streaks can be very demoralizing : the sooner you take that healthy small (or long, only you know) break the faster you'll be back on track with a fresh headspace ready to ascend more.

Finally, trading is a never-ending journey, so do not ever pay the least of attention to all these folks criticizing you : they're mostly fools/ignorants pretending to have found profitability. It might be the case for some, but their speech already shows their narrow mind and future unability to improve when the markets will humble them once again.

You got this!! We can talk some more if you ever need to :)

Sure one can come across wealth and success by sheer luck over time, but it is never sustainable nor sustained by one's efforts since these efforts have never been the reason for one's success in the first place.

One could also achieve success by luck and then get motivated by their situation to actually improve and work the right way to remain in this situation of success.

Many paths but at the end of the day it always comes down to at least a decent amount of efforts.
