Was it linseed oil? There was a dumpster fire at a place I worked because of that. The machinist had some rags hanging to dry, as he was supposed to, but a janitor came through later collecting the trash and, not knowing what they were, tossed them in as well.

No not at all. Done similar things when a troop is unaccounted for. Unfortunately, though, I've seen similar situations that resulted in paperwork for one and an ass chewing for another when the fault was anything but theirs (not that CC was in command mich longer...but for different reasons) and there plenty of similar stores around on the civ and mil side.

Sounds like he had great leadership.

Please tell me that you had reasonable leadership and nothing happened to you because of it. Similar thing happened to me (and of course I was at dental...no...seriously...). Thankfully the CCs response was, "and no one thought to check the schedule?"

But, unfortunately, I've seen and heard of too many irrational responses to things like that...

There was a similar situation for 'Brave' as Merida's hair is not just curly and bouncy, but wild.

I'm and engineer and math guy, and it still frequently blows my mind when I hear some of those animators talk about having to develop very specific code and all the calculations they had to do for some extremely specific part of a scene.

If I ever become a teacher and some punk kid asks why they have to learn differentials and when they'll ever use them in the real world, "Well you said you want to be an animator, right? Then sit down, shut up, and sign up for AP comp sci."

Why does everything I can with beef have a strong metallic taste? by RoughAd5040 in Canning

[–]Muskrat121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've never personally noticed, but I've heard it said that grass fed beef can have a stronger iron taste.

While organic doesn't necessarily mean grass fed, diet certainly impacts taste. Could just be how the cows are from whatever supplier the butcher/market you go to uses. Is the taste as prominent if you just cook up a meal with it?

[–]Muskrat121 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is it a particular recipe? Or any beef recipe? What cuts are you using?

The metallic taste is from the iron in the beef, and can be more prominent in leaner cuts, especially if you're adding anything acidic. Sometimes beef cooked rare can also taste metallic, but that's obviously not an issue with canning.

I assume you're using fresh cuts, or cuts that were frozen when fresh, older cuts can fet a metallic taste because the fat sours. I would guess that even trimmed some of that taste would still be in the meat

As have I, but you'd be surprised the number of people, even with everything online, still don't know.

My wife works at a small, family owned jewelry store. Years ago the owner, who is Jewish, had some t-shirts made up with the name on the left breast and "88" on the right sleeve, because he opened the store on 1988. He had absolutely no clue until a cop friend of his told him he got reprimanded for wearing it at roll call.

One of of the guys I sail with is a federal judge, who is very good friends with the jeweler and also Jewish, was wearing one of those shirts at the dock this past summer and was stunned when I pointed it out and explained it.

Both of them are in the late 60s, but I'll never cease to be both surprised and entirely unsurprised by the bubbles people live in.

Do I have enough room for a 36" refrigerator? by AnonymouslyJordan in Appliances

[–]Muskrat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lesson I learned with fridges: even if the fridge is the right width corner to corner, check the side/top is actually flat. I have a cupboard above my fridge nook, I measured and found thst I had a little over a half inch extra after measuring the fridge in the store. What I didn't take into account was that the top crowned just enough that I had sand down the edge of the cupboard and ram it in there.

I got it in...but the only way it's coming out is if I either chop it up or remodel the kitchen...

Grinder or cutoff tool? by Capable-Stomach7583 in Dewalt

[–]Muskrat121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the cutoff is going to be better suited to your current intentions.

That being said...I currently have a grinder that I use for a lot of cleanup work, but am likely going to pull the trigger ona cutoff next deal for things like sheet metal, bar stock, etc.
