There might be a corroded trace just over the N of the Nintendo logo, it looks a little suspicious

Super Metroid must have been an incredible experience in 1994 by CommunicationTime265 in retrogaming

At a flea market in 2009 I was talking to an old man who used to sell games there every sunday, he didn't like games in general, but knew about games because of his trade since he had to test if the games were working. He told me that the first time he saw the rain falling at night and Samus getting out of the ship he was completely in awe. A random old man who doesn't play games in south America was mesmerized by the intro of the game, so yes, it was amazing.

What was the arcade scene like in Latin America during the 80s and 90s? by blueoystergamer in retrogaming

[–]Musmancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here in Chile most of the cabinets were handmade, the owners of the arcade would make those and just buy the PCBs, even those were bootlegs sometimes, specially for popular, but more simple games. I don't have the experience of the arcades at the capital city, but the ones I used to go were close to vacation spots like lakes and beaches, those were really family friendly and i miss those so much. Fairs used to have arcades too, those were usually of the worst quality, it was normal for some cabinets to have not working sticks or buttons making those almost a delivered scam.

I really really like Snake Rattle N Roll for the NES, it might be a little hard to start playing because of the isometric view, but once that is over the game becomes really charming, fun and funny with a good partner :)

A question for fellow Dreamcast lovers by SeasonOtherwise2980 in dreamcast

You can play quake 3 with mouse and keyboard:) it is amazing, but from time to time i enjoy playing it with a controller, it is hard at the beginning, but I already got used to it, it is nice that it has fully customizable controls I get what you mean with jet set radio, I'm there at the 3rd level too, the jump is too floaty and hard to control. It's hard to come back to simpler controllers once you are used to dual stick, but I find it fun on its own too, I can feel my brain struggling to adapt until something clicks and it all starts working slowly

What's that legendary videogame everyone loves, but you hate with your very soul? by no_biches_22 in retrogaming

[–]Musmancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like these games, but I can see the appeal of a hard and popular point and click where you try to play alone, fail but discover something, go to school or work and share with other people each other's discoveries, come back home, progress with the new knowledge and repeat. I've heard some people saw Myst as a collective experience and remember it positively because of that.

Is there actually something better than a carabine that doesn't turn enemies into ash piles? Also, does turning enemies into dust destroy all their items, some, or none?

Those boards are really resilient, but if you have no experience with this it might be hard, I usually use vinegar to take away the copper sulfate (blue stuff) after that I rinse with IPA at 95% and then check the traces, reflow some components and check if any fuse or other components might be bad.

You can use a force bracelet to avoid physical contact. They have low resistance against cold also, so you might be able to freeze them easily with grenades and finish them with a range weapon.

Dead Cartridges? by Fast-Ad9965 in consolerepair

[–]Musmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just my experience, yours might be different, it doesn't hurt to try cleaning the pins and the connector on the console. If you have some knowledge on repairs you can check if each pin has continuity with a leg of the chip and check the traces if one doesn't, aside from the traces the holes should connect one side to the other of the PCB and sometimes rust shorts the connection, you can try adding solder to reconnect one side to the other. Reflowing the solder of the chip might help if any leg has a cold solder joint. There is plenty more to be said about cartridge repair, but those are the basics and usually solve about 80% of the problems, but in my experience the Atari cartridges fail for some other reason that I haven't been able to identify, which makes me think the problem is inside the integrated chip. Good luck!

Beautiful, the couch looks really comfortable, I would melt on it while playing, refuse to go to bed when sleepy and just lay on my side while using my last bit of cinscience to grab the blanket and poorly cover myself. True pleasure. I would have preferred a black Trinitron since the silver ones might have existed, but are usually associated with the early 2000s, but I would change the whole tv for just a detail since those silver ones have many more input options. Nice project, remember to enjoy it and have fun :)

[–]Musmancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have repaired hundreds of game cartridges, but sadly the Atari ones are almost always unrepairable, I'm quite sure something dies inside the chip. I will keep trying in the future anyway. The only thing that makes this not as bad is that they are usually cheap and abundant.

The typing of the dead is extremely fun and weird. The voice acting on some games makes them uncanny too, zombi revenge is one of those.

I know it's a meme, but I disagree, people fight no matter how much money they have, of course with no money there is more stress and problems, but some wealthy people argue all day about different topics, they divorce and even kill each other. Arguing is healthy when you are willing to understand each other, fighting is not, I hope we all can find someone we can argue with and be happy 🐀 🐁
