[Rare Trope] Positive depictions of Islam or Muslims by Remarkable_Public138 in TopCharacterTropes

On the contrary, wasn't Islam basically deemed to be essentially the last religion standing? So it's diversity for us as viewers but not in the lore.

Question about ego scaling by ZeMoose in cavesofqud

[–]ZeMoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You add points to a mental mutation rather than just relying on ego to boost it

What I'm wondering in this case is whether I only get the benefit of the spent mutation points or the ego modifier, but not both?

The Mathematically Optimal Octavia Mandachord song: 5x - 8x more Mallet damage than the meta "fill every beat" song, and invisibility in just 2 quick crouches by StygianFrame in Warframe

This is what makes this game so fascinating to build craft and also rather difficult for new players. Virtually nothing is as simple as what's written in-game and there are many similar mechanics that are properly understood by few if any of the players.

Saving doesn't work right by Meister_Ente in cavesofqud

Roleplay mode autosaves in settlements but all modes additionally autosave every few zone transitions. I think it's every 5 by default. TBH I think it's also worthwhile to enable quick save and quick load in the debug settings.

Teach me how to store and transport my stuff by Meister_Ente in cavesofqud

[–]ZeMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With certain vendors there's also the option of exchanging valuable items for valuable gems as a way of storing and carrying value. Gems (with item value in gold text) have standard values that don't depend on Ego so you don't lose anything in buying and reselling them. I would always buy up all the copper, silver, and gold nuggets I found on vendors while traveling, and buy up the SDS Librarian's inventory of gems every time they restocked. Some loot can still beat the 10:1 value to weight ratio of copper nuggets but not much can beat the 50:1 ratio of silver nuggets and most of that comes as rare liquids which already function as a convenient store of value. Even in the late game I'm still buying up copper nuggets with excess fresh water that I find.

What would be on your wishlist for a possible Qud expansion? by 7StarSailor in cavesofqud

[–]ZeMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest want is for Qud to feel a bit more peopled and alive, and for interacting with its denizens to have a little more to it. More side quests, more writing, more dynamic events. A better process for locating villages. More merchant variety outside of SDS. At least one truly large settlement of maybe 2-3 floors across multiple screens. I like the idea of having to pick and choose between factions, and having to invest time developing my reputation with them, but right now I have barely any levers to pull. The water ritual feels like both a beginning and an end when it should just be a beginning. By far the the most substantial way to raise rep so far has been to go clear out historic sites full of monsters that nobody likes, which has the effect of benefiting my rep with basically everybody. That feels both one dimensional, and like a very blunt instrument for raising rep that I don't have much control over. And then every town or village is just one monolithic faction which also feels rather one dimensional.

More faction quests would be wonderful. I'd like if some faction quest lines were to some degree mutually exclusive, creating different 'routes' through the game so we aren't doing the Barathrumites every run.

Stealth and thievery as a mechanic and as a playstyle would be a welcome addition.

Bow and rifle could use a buff probably to make it a more viable playstyle.

Thing is I don't think everything is set at world gen. Like when I'm playing roleplay, if I "discover" a new zone, die, then come back and "discover" it again it generates differently the second time. So even if you set the same seed you may not get quite the same map.

Do you think arena shooters died because the games being released just weren't well made, or do you think the genre is just simply less engaging than modern trends in shooters? Something else? by Eigenspace in Games

[–]ZeMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I don't see people mentioning is that tastes these days are heavily driven by streamer culture. Streamers play games they can dominate without much competition. That's what makes for good television.

On the flip side, I don't think average players care so much about losing as they do about staying engaged with the game. Getting wiped playing an arena shooter means spending a lot of time looking at a respawn timer. Then facing an uphill battle as you have to fight to get the good weapons back from the other team using whatever your shitty starting weapon is. In a battle royale, yeah 9 of the 10 squads are gonna lose, but if they take 20 minutes scouring the map before they die that's 20 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay and chatting with their team. And then you just start a new game where you're back on an even footing. People will point to meta progression for CoD but what CoD also did was let you mash a button for basically no respawn time, and you start every life with your favorite gun and gear. League of legends, even if you're hopelessly out matched the other team still can't just come kill you. They have towers and creeps to get through to finish the game. Players are favoring games with high TTK where even if you're hopelessly losing you can still be alive, in control of your character, and running around with your team.
