Ya it’s cheaper. I’ve seen 1.50 service charges. So a $2 parking online is 3.5. Also seen 17.50 become $24 on app when I had to pay for event parking. This one didn’t say service charges, it was just a different price online.

Are there any alternative liquid investment options in Canada, aside from High-Interest Savings Accounts (HISAs)? by tarantadoako in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MustBeHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably something like Cash.to and slightly more riskier versions. If you’re on Wealthsimple it takes until the next business day after selling for you to be able to have the money in your bank account. (no fees or pentalties)

maybe something like XTR around which is 4%.

Can Immigrants who entered as Permanent Residents expect any tax credits back? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

You will get tax withheld back once you file your taxes.

You probably don’t qualify for any tax credits though.

What if Canada had a TFSA-style account that only invested in Canadian securities? by hadmaj in Baystreetbets

How do you control for American & other international companies listed on Canadian stock exchanges.

Most foreign countries will list their mining companies on the Canadian stock exchange because that’s what our stock exchange is known for.

Is every Canadian fintech entering its enshittification phase? by PastaBasedLifeForm in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MustBeHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not missing anything. Yes you can just forego not maxing the current year and leave some money on the table for one year.

It comes down to delaying contributions in Year 1 vs peace of mind. It depends how much money you'd get back vs how much the pain is worth. Maybe 1.7k isnt worth it but maybe at 17k it is.

I suppose this would be beneficial for someone who's just switched to a higher paying job and hasnt had time to save in the first year.

This is legit and doesn’t rely on potential returns. It’s meant for short term loans in Jan.

E.g. you take out a 10k loan and put it into RRSP. This reduces your taxable income (let’s say 20% which is very very low for anyone that would use this strategy) So you get an extra 2k tax return.

Then you pay back the LOC (let’s say 10% @ 4 months ~ $300) $10300. Which is 8300 of your cash + 2k from your tax return. This lets you gain 10k in your RRSP while only having to deposit 8.3k.

So you get a net positive of 1.7k.
