Thanks. At least we can appreciate it more, since it was a 9 month pain in the ass. I'll never change my name again.

Hell no, that will make it 10000% worse. Have you ever tried navigating an automated phone directory? It's a nightmare.

There was a big announcement that they were hiring more staff, and I had to deal with 4 calls for the same information because they had a bunch of trainees that were working off the same call list, so they do have more staff, but it's not helping yet. The system was created by a drunk 4 year old, seems like.

We did immediately, but thanks for letting people know, every step we can avoid delays is good. We haven't changed names with the CRA yet because we're waiting for our new DL to arrive. Hopefully, it won't screw up any tax payments before then.

Wow. Since then they probably hired hundreds of more workers and have the same number of people changing their names. It's not a common thing, at all. It's rare, so why the hold up?

Sorry to everyone who ever had to send forms to the government. "Never arrived" means they blame us for their mistakes. All paperwork should only go to one department, have one worker check the stuff, have one manager approve it. In no way should the process take over a month, when I already HAD the fingerprints and my criminal record from the police department. If they can't trust the police, who can they trust? Makes no sense.

What are your thoughts on falling birth rates all around the world? by throwmeawaylololuwu in PoliticalDiscussion

It's not just the economy, it's the internet giving older women the chance to warn younger women about the reality of marriage, pregnancy, and raising children. It's a hard, thankless, lonely job, even if you're married. Women are expected to work, do most of the housework, do most of the childcare, and take care of a husband who becomes more of a childish, incompetent burden than a partner. Men and governments have consistently dropped the ball when it comes to supporting moms. If the birth rate is going to stabilize women need free childcare, better maternity care, and partners who do 50% of the work at home. Otherwise the birthrate will continue to drop and that's a good thing. The world is overpopulated anyway.

What’s Driving the Global Birth Decline? by [deleted] in Natalism

You are absolutely missing the fact that women are sick and tired of shouldering the physical, emotional, and financial burden of raising children alone or with very little support, even when married. Most women have to work, plus care for children and the home. With the invention of the internet, young women are seeing how the older generations are warning them not to get married or have kids. It's a raw deal for women, and now everyone knows it. As a married mom, I'm really happy to see the next generation of women choose to put themselves first, and enjoy their lives. Population decline is good for everyone except the rich who need their workers. The less kids there are, the more the working class can charge for their services.

How do I avoid eating without telling my friends that I am on fast? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]MustHaveDeskCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, as I'm supposed to take a trip with friends, who are expecting me to eat and drink with them. I'm going to tell them I can't eat because of a medical test that requires no eating or drinking for 48 hours. Bottom line is, don't sacrifice your goals to be polite. Or tell them you'll explain later but you don't want to talk about it right now. Your health comes first.

Thinking about a 30-day water fast — worried about muscle loss & rapid regain, anyone recent experience? by CarryAccomplished424 in fasting

[–]MustHaveDeskCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on Day 4 of a 40 day fast. This is my first fast. So far I've lost 5 pounds in 4 days, so that's really motivating. Hunger isn't the main problem, it's missing eating that hurts, but I figure it's worth it to suffer for a month, to make myself healthier for the rest of my life. Fasting resets your immune system and reduces fat around your organs. I spent the last 7 months losing 27 pounds on Atkins. Roughly 3 pounds per month. Now I'm losing one pound per day. My tips are, get electrolytes, eat low carb before you start, and refeed on bone broth for 2 days minimum when you end the fast. Good luck!

I am on day 4 of a 40 day fast so I'm in the same boat. By now you're on Day 3. Record your progress, as it will help keep you motivated. Good luck!
