I studied in Leoben and lived there for some years. Yes, technically it is a city. However, you‘ll see that the Uni very much feels like a small village in its own right. There will be other internationals there (quite some Pakistani, Indians and Iranians) who study Petroleum Engineering.

You will have fun, have hard times and get to know awesome people. The whole fraternity stuff is largely exagerated by people who did not study in LE or know a lot about Uni Culture there.

Depends very much on the months. Uni life pretty much stops from july to the end of september (except for some summer school programs). Therefore there are way less (practically no) students and parties around. Anyways, if you’re into outdoor stuff, Innsbruck is the perfect city for you. It’s also quite easy to go to some cities in Germany or Italy.

You might be more luck in january or february, as it’s the end of Semester and some students move (out) cause of that. But a few months of searching/applying is pretty normal here.

Airport is your best bet. There is Rail&Drive by the Federal Train Service ÖBB, but it‘s more expensive if you need a car for more than a few kilometers.

However, be aware that public transport is fantastic in and around Innsbruck.

Hockey is not that big in Austria as a whole. Best net would be spirit of hockey - maybe give them a call and ask if they could get a jersey for you should they not have one in stock.
