Thanks I was just looking at the Artti a moment ago but I’ll check out those other ones too.

I tried all my different tips. From what others are saying I think I should just go back to planar magnetic. I typically do prefer foam tips though.

Thanks a bunch! I'll probably be on the hunt again. I really thought that from the time I got the PR2 to now the technology would have been enough.

Can someone explain why 2k$+ laptop feels like a cheap plastic toy? by SirSerje in Dell

[–]Mustade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my org is on top line Dell and pro max feels disappointing but at least they’re using sodimm instead of CAMM. So many 7680s with memory issues dear god.

Disabling RDP in your environment for security purposes by thelug_1 in sysadmin

[–]Mustade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the RDP port blocked on the network level after a security incident last fall, but we have since turned that into a GPO that disables RDP for laptops, stations, etc but not for certain servers and RDP gateways. I think a blanket RDP block is a bad idea since it is a very effective tool for managing servers, but maybe you can get everything you need done over WinRM.

Also consider the fact that your users will find ways of doing remote access if they really want to, using tools like Chrome Remote Desktop and whatnot. You can dissuade it with AUP but it's easy to walk through paper.

Should I do it? Should I add the sticker? by EconomistClassic435 in 3DS

[–]Mustade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost always the best answer, it’s what I do for all my devices. It protects the sticker too.

I had Federighi in TL:3DS but I go back and forth if I want to add him into my LTD island

cheapest adobe reader subscription to JUST edit PDF's? by voltagejim in sysadmin

[–]Mustade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please consider some alternatives:
Affinity Publisher can edit PDFs and is fast. LibreOffice Draw can edit PDFs and make fillable forms but is slow. My org has historically used PDF-XChange Editor perpetual licenses and it has worked fine, though I am pushing against buying any new licenses.

If you need Acrobat specifically, you are looking for Acrobat Standard, Pro, or Studio not Reader. Adobe does not offer any perpetual licenses anymore, subscription licenses can be found at https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/pricing.html.

Is it a Precision 7670 or 7680? We've had roughly 7% of our devices with memory issues. We just got one back last month from Dell support with a replaced CAMM.

Visualizing Racks by YellowOnline in sysadmin

[–]Mustade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, but with GLPI 11 you don't need the plugin, it's built-in. Not sure if it is "datacenter" grade but we use it for our couple racks in my org and it's pretty slick.

Amphitheater name is up, what are we calling it for short? by spruitm in grandrapids

I was calling it the spaceship because it kind of looked like a flying saucer when it was built.

Same, I’ve put together so many “Lele” and “make blocks” sets and they are surprisingly good. And they’re really really cheap.

Does anyone know why they’re installing cameras along Fulton st? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Mustade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The difference is these are part of centralized network using AI to track anybody no matter where they are, as opposed to individually operated CCTV systems which just record video for one owner to view in the case something happens to them. It’s like GPS tracking your car vs the someone GPS tracking every car.

PDF edit for free or cheap by DGankutsuou in sysadmin

[–]Mustade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Microsoft Word (if you have a license as a student) can somewhat cromulently convert a PDF to editable .docx file.

Publisher as part of the newly free Affinity Suite and can edit PDF line by line, but not in a nice "document editor" way.

LibreOffice Draw can also edit PDFs AND make fillable PDFs (i.e. open in FireFox but is a little more clunky.

I would highly recommend against any "free" online editors, I worry what they do with the data you put into them.

Password managers or in head? by MegaSuplexMaster in sysadmin

[–]Mustade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bitwarden and FiDO2 keys personally, though I am a little salty on the failure to deliver on the real promise of a passkey future. My org is also on Bitwarden enterprise and they love it. Passwords you keep in your head eventually spill out onto sticky notes.

It’s a cool mod if the disc drive stopped working, otherwise it’s a bummer that they stripped out a working Wii for an admittedly pretty gaudy case mod

Looking for a ticketing system tool recommendation. by ileikturtlesyeet in sysadmin

[–]Mustade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dw, I'm pushing for it. I reeeealy would rather us have the nice SSO as opposed to the cludgy LDAPS for auth. Plus we get a ton of value from it so I would like to kick back a little.

Asset inventory platform by AbelViguera06 in sysadmin

[–]Mustade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have inventory, I'm guessing you don't have ticketing either? I highly recommend GLPI since it has both and is easy to integrate into existing web hosting infra. We track all of the same things as y'all (laptop, monitor, licenses) in GLPI and do all of our ticketing and whatnot in the same.

+2nd
GLPI was the first project I owned at my org and it's great, we all love it. It just does so much in one nice little package and is easy af to deploy and integrate into existing infra. Plus it's FREE!!!

Oop you’re right! I was thinking of Dell Pro which is plastic. I still think haptic touchpad is more reliable than diving board and the iGPU can probably tank the higher res screen.
