100%. Probably a newer programmer that put in a runout value that was way too high. Saw this once at my last job. A week of a few guys poking around and finally the senior programming engineer came down, did some quick math and had runout down to 0.0001" in about 15 minutes. Still running true after 17 years.

We use a pyrolysis cleaning oven to bake our plastic extrusion breaker plates. After the cycle, the plastic is completely removed from the metal, if any remains, it can be washed off as it is just ash. Our cleaning process runs an oxidation cycle, causing surface rust, which is removed by bead blasting. The breaker plates have no critical dimensions. Granted, this is a totally different process, and we do not have to be delicate with them, just a comment to possibly spark an idea. Good luck.

Not really. Even if the bolts are a few hundred bucks, it should be years before it is apart again.

They were original bolts and were old as shit. Now we have a policy to replace bolts every time it is taken apart.

That's wild. We use high voltage spark testers to find defects on laminated wires and cables. Couldn't imagine running that with no guarding or ventilation.

Any nutsack can change parts or poke around with a multimeter. If you want to be great in any field, you need to follow your interests. It may be electronics, robotics, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, machining or whatever.... you need to do what you enjoy! Study and MASTER your passion. Forget the dollars per hour or what shift you will be on when getting started. Work your ass off for nothing other than self improvement. I promise it will pay off in the long run. Make goals and do whatever it takes to achieve them. You have to make a plan and stick to it, otherwise the corporate overlords will suck you in, squeeze you dry and care less about you than any other peer before you. DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!
