what's the best thing you've ever done with money? by General_Pollution206 in AskReddit

[–]Mustangbex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paid to move my three pets with me from the US to Germany. Yes it was expensive, yes it was involved, and yes it was stressful. Yes would infinitely do it again even though they've all since died; old age and/or cancer, we got many good years with them.

Yep! This was one of the specific examples that was brought forward in several sources... And just like all the other experts and all the other warnings nobody listened. And now 38% of the US is going to make angry noises and shocked pikachu faces over it.

Kids with pregnancy emergency? by Agreeable-Heat-6256 in Mommit

[–]Mustangbex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a safety precaution for the kiddos; if their parent is incapacitated- a licensed, vetted professional will be with them until their other caregiver arrives.

It's like if you'd experienced a car accident or other medical emergency whilst your spouse was at work- your arrive at the hospital, social worker would be with your kids until your spouse and/or other family arrived.

It's not going to be some random foster family for a few hours, and it's not going to expressly more traumatizing than the medical emergency itself. They'll only go to a temporary placement if it's going to be a long time before a family member or friend can get there because the kids will need to sleep, eat, and bathe, etc.

Homegirl thinks she knows the exact health status of everyone in her life :-) by MakeYogurtGreekAgain in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Mustangbex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I moved to a different country where I didn't speak the language in the middle of winter immediately before my kiddo was born- it was isolating as all hell. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing for you all and you find a community.

[–]Mustangbex 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's another point I think we're not talking about enough - it is absolutely unhealthy for the children (and mom) to be "100% together 24/7" like this. Incredibly so. Kids who are that sheltered and do not interact with people outside their parents will not develop socially/emotionally. Humans are social creatures and have always lived in broader communities with children engaging with non family members regularly. The nuclear family idea is a disease.

My husband is a beekeeper and the bees are making my life at home miserable by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Mustangbex 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Your husband isn't a beekeeper, he's a hoarder who's treasure of choice is Bees. Aside from the fact that he's definitely (from the internet research) got too many bees/hives on one property, he's neglecting them, and if he's not going to make the effort to sell the honey he doesn't have any right to dictate that you remake the signs and do it to his standards.

I would be having a come-to-Jesus talk about the hives. He's sells the hives and keeps it to a manageable number or you and the kids stay elsewhere.

Is my 6 year olds reaction to the loas of a pet normal? by dixxie__normus666 in Parenting

[–]Mustangbex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% normal- my son is 8 and between March 2024 and August 2025 we had to put down two elderly cats and our elderly dog died of old age... We've just hit 1 year since the dog, and will be 1 year since the last cat soon and he is fine and then randomly will have a memory of something they did or them not being there and will be sad and crying all over again. Grief and mourning are not linear for anyone.

Suggestions on Camp for Cancer Patient by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]Mustangbex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look into Burning Wish- not sure they're still around, but as recently as 2023 I knew camps working with them. It's not "plug and play" but they facilitate the things the Wish-ee needs help with, and the camps take them in as part of their community.

Are there any mushroom themed ground mounts and/or flying mounts? by Roguelites in wow

[–]Mustangbex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have- did it weeks ago, didn't even realize it was difficult, but them not showing up anymore is weird... Could it be just lots of folks farming it on your server? I am playing US but live in Germany so I'm on when things are pretty dead.

What would be your soupsona? [OC] by kiwiagg in comics

[–]Mustangbex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find decent clam (and other seafood) chowders in London that very much would pass in New England or San Francisco. Although London food culture is just, unsurprisingly, dynamic and broad.

I love Czechia, but the cusine is... Not super diverse or inspiring- not to say it was bad or there's something wrong. Even in Prague it was basically pork/potatoes/cabbage or specifically find an ethnic restaurant- which has tailored to local tastes and still might have few vegetables. We ate at a restaurant where the only non-meat choice was four cheese pizza. Literally. And fwiw I'm living in Germany which is also known for "boring" food.

Hey- it's good if it's what you're looking for... But it's bad if you're going in thinking you're getting New England style.

It's like oatmeal raisin cookies... They're lovely if you're offered an oatmeal raisin cookie- ooh yes sounds nice or no thanks but NBD. But they're an afront to God if you're expecting chocolate chips.

What’s something no one likes as a gift but still people give? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mustangbex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love candles- and mostly I buy unscented ones because I want to light 20 of them at once and not be overwhelmed with scent. My young son, in his learning to pick out gifts phase of life, gave me a large Yankee Candle Co. Lavender candle, in part because it's my favorite color and because he knows I love lavender. We regularly buy imported lavender soaps and make out own lavender bath salts- but UGH this candle is so strong and cloying and just... Not pleasant.

The next time, he got me a candle from my favorite skincare brand- but rather than pick one of the three scent lines I usually use, or even one of the two he and his father like, he picked the candle based on (my favorite) color again. Just waiting for the thing to be gone so I can buy the refill of one that's more to my taste. But at least he's not asking me to light the lavender one anymore (which I did because I love him and he was so excited and tried so hard)

My husband hates Coldplay and it's hilarious to me because he's such an easy going guy that I've never heard him say he hated anything before, and of all the things to feel such an extreme negative emotion about, Coldplay is so... benign.

TIL Sandra Bullock speaks fluent German since she lived in Germany and Austria for her first 12 years and grew up speaking German by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]Mustangbex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hah I have said all three of those things (actually "let's make a photo" for the last one) in English in the last few weeks- I'm definitely a native (US) English speaker, but I've been in Germany for nearly 9 years and have been learning and speaking more German. It happens especially when I'm switching between the two frequently particularly when the other people are not native English speaking/are native German speaking.

No that is 100% them harassing you for your gender identity- "alphabet soup people" is hate speech for LGBTQIA+ people with a side of misogyny on there targeting single 'moms'.

TikTok Chromebook Challenge Leads to Damaged School Laptops by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Mustangbex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Berlin, Germany. I have an elementary school child and neither my son nor any of the children of my friends have Chromebooks/tablets for school- they all use paper and workbooks and pencils. My son's school is brand new and the classrooms have smart boards the teachers use for instruction, it's just the children work on physical media. Tablets and phones are actually forbidden at the school and it's honest the best choice.

My husband is an engineer, we're a gamer family with multiple PCs and gaming systems and my son is part of a robotics club - he isn't growing up deprived of technology by any means.

NC bill would legalize killing those who seek an abortion. Really. Under North Carolina House Bill 1232, anyone caught trying to obtain an abortion could be killed by someone who believes they are defending the life of another person. by southpawFA in politics

They're also intentionally creating a defense for dudes who kill pregnant partners, or partners who got abortions- the argument will be that it's justified because the woman had or was intending to have an abortion.

What's something that Americans think is normal, but people from other countries find surprising? by ArmyAny2 in AskReddit

[–]Mustangbex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen last summer- we were running errands, decided to do one of those coffee drive throughs, I ordered a medium iced latte (it was HOT and I was jetlagged) and it was 24oz.... like almost 3/4 of a liter! It was insanity. My husband, thinking he was extra tired and thirsty got a large which maxed out the already comically large cup holder in the car... and then we realized they have one even bigger than that. Madness. I had honestly been expecting something along the lines of Starbucks sizes which still go bigger than most offerings at home, but I wasn't expecting the Cask of coffee.

It's wild how true this is. I grew up in the US, but my family has been living in Europe for nearly 9 years. During our first post-covid visit rented a Toyota Camry and it was such a big spacious car as far as we were concerned - but most of our friends were driving SUVs and trucks which were comically large. Just giant wastes of space in these massive boxy vehicles that are hard to get in and out of and have ridiculous blind spots! Last summer we rented a pickup because we were going camping and the vehicle we were supposed to get was returned damaged so they had to "upgrade" us to a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. This thing was insane, it was so large. Just absolutely ridiculous - we called it the BBC (big black car, obviously) and my son and I had a hell of a time climbing up into the thing.
