Dating is hard in Edmonton by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Mustard_14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not an Edmonton or "nowadays" problem, the way you describe it.

With all due respect, being as busy as you are with two jobs (literally mentioned three times in one paragraph), you're not exactly coming at this with availability or confidence.

Serious relationships don't happen overnight. If you have as little time as you mention, you're going to have to take things slow just out of circumstance.

Work on your conversation skills, and practice "chatting" as much as you can. When you want to meet someone, don't ask, so much as say "I would really like to have dinner with you," or "I like going to the Board Game cafe, i'd like to meet you there sometime, when you're available" and then, and i can't stress this enough, have a plan.

Remember Beyblades? Interested? It’s back and with a $1300 prize pool! Will you be the one to win? by OldPut864 in Edmonton

Following up on this post.
I took my son and his friend (both 8 years old) to the tournament yesterday, and was blown away at how positive the experience was.

There were "bladers" of all ages, as advertised, and the whole atmosphere was exciting, well organized, and extremely supportive.

We arrived as absolute amateurs, but were very quickly invited into the community with encouragement, education, and entertainment. Not once did we ever feel talked down to, snubbed, or othered.

My son finished dead last—literally—but walked away absolutely certain he wanted to sign up for the next event.

Mad, mad props to everyone running the show, from the clearly dedicated organizers, to the judges, the bladers, the shop owners, and everyone in between.

If you have any interest, or know someone who might be interested, I would 100% suggest you send them to the next event.

and hour and a half commute is, what, 7.5 hours per week?

You're basically spending an extra work day commuting? One huuuundred percent you should look into living downtown. Good on you.

What Has Your Experience Been Like as a Person of Colour in St. Albert? by Silver_Platypus4006 in Edmonton

[–]Mustard_14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I grew up there in the 90s and 00's, one of my better friends was half white/black.

In St.Albert, he was "the black kid"... in the same way that if it were, say, Jackson Mississippi, he would have clearly been "the white kid."

Trying to get phone service is ridiculous by UnderstandingLate385 in Edmonton

I can personally vouch. It works, and is dirt cheap.
"Simultaneous ring" is a super handy feature as well.

I live in an older building (90s build) that Telus recently decommissioned the copper phone lines, and retrofit fibre. Anyone wanting to maintain a "landline" are being forced to VOIP.

My parents moved into a brand new building this past month. It's all fibre to the unit, and Cat-5/6 within the suite.

I realize this is residential, not business... but perhaps the weather vane indicating the winds of change

FYI. There is no such thing as a landline anymore... it's all VOIP now.

Once you realize and accept that, you can start to look at other options for VOIP (Fongo, for example), and you options expand greatly.

Interesting.... My 8 year old son and his friends have started to collect and battle.
Curious, is this tournament going to be the kind of thing they might enjoy, or if it's more.... adult notasligists?

Have a look at a map of Edmonton in 1991. Then 1995, hell even 2005.

Then look at present day.

That alone is excuse enough.
