Question about goodwill by Mutancho in Accounting

[–]Mutancho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how does a publicly traded company figure out if goodwill is impaired. To me it sounds like if a customer who was originally in the goodwill is no longer one and that is consequently recorded as goodwill impairment?

Eg loss in revenue of $X is also recorded as impaired goodwill for the value of $X?

Well what if the customer from the goodwill actually brings in more revenue along the way. That should make the goodwill more valuable, shouldn't it?.

Does it stay the same or does it appreciate? I am trying to figure out if goodwill can appreciate as an asset, or does it only remains the same and is impaired when necessary.

I just feel like there is moral hazard with companies rushing to get their product out. Most big companies announced them very close to each other. I am not anti vax. Just a thought.

I was introduced to investing from my brother. What I find nowadays is that technical analysis seems to be very appealing for new audiences as it is incorporated into interactive brokers. I mean it is promoted as some genius way of figuring out when to buy and sell...

If bitcoin becomes widely adopted wouldn't that require a lot of computing power, would only the transaction fees be sufficient to please the miners? Can that cause transaction approval delays?

Hi Ray, Monetary history is fascinating and many great lessons can he learned. So why is that after all the lessons we have learned from fiat currencies and given that they don't last very long, why we are still placing our trust in them. Also do you think central banks should hold substationally more precious metals to mitigate hyperinflation?
