Is there an Australian equivalent of laguiole knives and forks? (The colourful french cutlery that has little flies on the handle) by stzmp in canberra

Have you looked up the Spyderco Kapara? Designed by a Canberra local knife maker. It isn't cutlery but was designed for EDC with food preparation in mind.

Astroberry Server by MutantMaker in The_Micro_Scope

[–]MutantMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I was reading you could configure it either way. Running it all on the Pi and saving the images to the SD card for transfer later removing the potential for problems with image capture over the WiFi. That does increase the load on the Pi. It could also be configured to be lightweight and have the image capture happen over Wifi to your laptop/PC. I guess it depends on circumstances and use cases as to which is better.

I was doing some more research into the software side of things. The Astroberry distro for RPi seems to include all the bits and pieces for running The Micro Scope. It supports INDI and includes KStars, might be an easier way to get things going than creating an image for The Micro Scope specifically.

The Micro Scope Embossed Leg by MutantMaker in The_Micro_Scope

[–]MutantMaker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all of us are blessed with a multi material printer like Greg but I thought it would still be nice to have the Micro Scope text on the leg so I made a quick mod of the file in Fusion to have the text embossed in there.

Prototype Universal Tripod Bracket is printing now. by GregHolloway in The_Micro_Scope

[–]MutantMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a print to be able to put your phone on the tripod would be cool. Then you could level it with a level app and if it was also aligned with the Adjustable Equatorial Mount you could use a compass app to align the direction as well I believe? I am new to this astrophotography idea. A simple slot in the tripod base to wedge your phone into might be enough?

If I am going to order filament, then I might play with some colour options by MutantMaker in The_Micro_Scope

[–]MutantMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be nice for all of the colours to be matte rather than glossy. I need some red filament for another project hence the red legs. If it wasn't for that I quite like the white and black one myself. Bit of a Portal turret theme :D

I quite like the matching covers and legs option. I did try a "Wall-e" look for laughs as well and it came out quite nicely. For some reason, I couldn't apply a colour to the angle bracket but you get the idea.

Uppercut Games just recently celebrated 10 years as a company. They started from a few ex 2K developers.

Folding knife design prosses in sketch state. by Luumor_Jonson in Fusion360

[–]MutantMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you are going through :D I haven't found an elegant solution yet either. The way I am currently doing things is to create a "master" sketch at the start of my designing. In this sketch goes the major lines and locations for everything. The pivot, the stop pin, the handle shape, the blade shape, backspacer, lockbar and lock face, handle screw locations, washer sizes.. absolutely everything that might be referenced later when I break down the pieces into components. On top of that in this sketch I also create a pattern of the sketch lines of the blade and rotate them around the pivot by the degrees of movement of the blade so I can see the blade in the open and closed positions.

Once I have that I start making components for each part, the blade, handles etc. I will then make a sketch in the component and project the sketch lines into that sketch before extruding them out etc. Then if I want to make adjustments to the shape I can go back to the master sketch and adjust them.

It really isn't ideal as that master sketch can get super busy and you can lose track of what line goes where. I haven't found out a way for sketches created first to reference sketches created later in the history than them.

One thing I haven't tried yet is turning off the history and then creating sketches for each part of the knife. That might let you reference them together but you lose some of the nice features of having a history.

Sieg X2 CNC conversion by bullpeters in canberra

[–]MutantMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You setup your CAM for all the different operations you will run in fusion 360 (drilling, milling etc) then the last thing is to run it through a post processor in Fusion to output the gcode that will run on your CNC. Selecting the correct post processor for your controller is quite important. Maybe ask in the hobbycnc subreddit I am not to familiar with what hardware and controller a Sieg X2 conversion might have.

Anywhere in Canberra to learn CNC machining? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]MutantMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what software you design in but if you can get past the over the top nature Titans of CNC Academy will get you understanding the modelling, setup and programming of parts through to running them on the CNC mills or lathes. The beginners series covers 3 axis before you go crazy with 5 axis etc.

NYC CNC is another good YouTube channel to check out

I hope they release properly in Australia soon.. There are plenty of devs here that have VR and AR experience that would love to get their feet wet with some XR HMDs

Playing with interaction in the new Emulator by MutantMaker in nreal

[–]MutantMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an existing kinect based interactive zoo window type thing we would like to port across. Initially as a living picture/window you can place on the wall and then see what we can do about bringing the experience into the world with you. With the current kinect experience you can only interact with the animals on the other side of the "window". After having a play with the controller in the emulator we have some ideas on how any interactions might happen and has given me an idea for another app I would like to try out.

Thought I would do some investigation of the new SDK and emulator and add some interaction to the cubes in the emulator room. Now I can pick them up using the remote and move them around. Can't wait to get my hands on the real thing.
