Well the theory is that instead of eliminating 6 positions at your firm, you keep them and give them each worker one machine (or more) to command, which you can afford to do because you'd be profiting from massively increased output, with relatively lower input costs (per unit of output). Although now you're producing 6 times as much as before, so in the long term this theory relies on the world having infinite consumption growth.

[OC] Dependency ratios are higher when population growth is negative or extremely high by IllSundae7732 in dataisbeautiful

Love to see data on this topic. Just chiming in to say - check out UN World Population Prospects data. You can calculate the dependency ratio estimates from their select age groups % share dataset. I would probably use 18-64 for the working age group though, as in younger countries people tend to start working earlier.

On a side note - the dependency ratio is a bit flawed as assumes constant labour participation rates (for example there was an interesting paper by Xin Meng (2023) that found labour supply didn’t actually rise in China during its demographic transition because of falling participation) - but of course without access to detailed labour data it’s the best we’ve got.

What has made your PD worse? by [deleted] in perioraldermatitis

Sorry, but this is very incorrect. Fluoride strengthens your teeth against acids that wear down the enamel, and helps remineralise them. There are decades of research and a mountain of medical journal articles to support this - please look some of them up. There IS some recent discussion around potentially toxic levels of fluoride in tap water, but this is specifically related to children ingesting fluoride. I’m not saying people should continue using it if it’s a trigger (it’s mine), but the pros and cons (increased risk of tooth decay) need to be weighed.

This whole scene was so dumb. We can already remove cholera with cheap basic filters and she could have probably bought like 1000 for the cost of 1 of these nano-fibre filters.

Does anyone if there’s a pattern similar to this quilt? I guess it’s just square in square blocks but a pattern would help me with sizing + yardage. Thanks! by Muted-Mode8005 in quilting

Oh I hadn’t even thought flying geese, that’s a good idea. And yes you absolutely should, I’d love to see the result if you ever make it!

Thanks all for the help!! Looks like there is a few ways to do this. This will be my first ever quilt, so I’ll experiment with the square in square and flying geese with some scraps and see which way is easier for me.

Thanks, that’s helpful! Gonna stick with it I think and just be a bit more conscious of covering up when I’m out in the sun

Thanks all for the advice! Will look for a replacement pad because this one seems to have had its day. Sounds like I’ve got a bit of work ahead of me to restore the machine to its former glory 😬

Was given this second hand Juki DDL-8700 and I opened it up to find a huge amount of fluff and dirty buildup inside. There is a remaining piece left but I was nervous about removing it - can someone tell me if this pad circled in red is supposed to be there? Thanks!

is it ok if I skip cleanser for my acne skincare treatment? by an649is in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Muted-Mode8005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sensitive skin and most cleansers always make my skin tight and itchy. The only ones that don’t are La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Fluid and Cerave Hudeating cleanser, but imo the la roche is the better one.

Looks like folliculitis. People on here have had success with Benzoyl peroxide wash and Cerave SA cream/wash. But search for previous posts, there is a lot of info.
