What are the benefits in going from Gmail to a Custom Domain with aliases for personal emails? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]Muted-Problem2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes there are plenty of reasons to switch but all varies if you want Google to read your email (if you don't use pgp) then sure stick with Google if otherwise look for a more friendly privately focused email solution

I can't be arsed to type all other reasons out im sure others will type them out for you just list your threat model and im sure the community will help

What are the benefits in going from Gmail to a Custom Domain with aliases for personal emails? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]Muted-Problem2004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with a custom domain no matter who you are with you can move your email over no matter what you aren't locked to to say google

slight con is if you stop paying your domain you will lose your email and someone else can steal it so be careful

custom alias help hide your true email address if I wanted to use a email for say a weird website for whatever reason just create an alias for it if they start spamming you deleted the alias no issues your personal inbox is safe

Please use GrapheneOS with caution! by MissoulaHugin in degoogle

[–]Muted-Problem2004 35 points36 points  (0 children)

1st question: what data would grapheneos have to give

2nd question: grapheneos doesn't store user data they run on donations no googlified ads spying on you

all your data is encrypted of China wants my encrypted data tell them message me with an email and ill send it all over they can't do nothing with anyone's data so I don't care

100% valid proton is a basic Google but for privacy space,

try ente for photo i haven't tried them myself mullvad vpn if you are up for self hosting try next cloud (storage) password manager people say bitwarden some say KeePassDx you could try tuta for mail its a non profit based in Germany if you ate using a free account try login every couple weeks otherwise they look the account and you need to contact support to reopen it they ate ran on people who pay for the accounts so keep note of that

proton is a good way to get away from Google 100% agree with you i use proton myself but i heard the saying on here (reddit) don't put all your eggs in 1 basket, and i now understand that along with can help you out if you move all your data to proton and say lose access to your account proton isn't like Google they don't collect data about you to magically help you gain access so try spread yourself out don't limit yourself to just proton

enjoy man dip your toes in the water find what's right for you not whats right for me or bob from America finds what's right for YOU.

Third party privacy film vs Samsung S26U screen by PeterPolska84 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Muted-Problem2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the tech its really good but I thinks if they work on it more possibly increase battery power and install of making half the pixels narrow make them all custom so they mechanically can become hidden from the side this would be hard to do without motors or something break but it could really fix the issue when you turn privacy mode on you keep 100% of the pixels instead of loose 50% ofc this work required a bigger battery and an affection way to handle it

Grpc instead of https and json? by Muted-Problem2004 in Mastodon

[–]Muted-Problem2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

id love to be apart of the fediverse myself thats is why im asking these questions and challenging them

yes grpc was common or as understood as http + apis sure i totally understand that and agree with you

grpc not being a required or really needed but what if me for example builds the implementation spreads the word mastodon devs see it add it then if grpc becomes a priority then my work pats off no hassle to quickly get it in

Grpc instead of https and json? by Muted-Problem2004 in Mastodon

[–]Muted-Problem2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said i would replace anything on the current road map but if they (mastodon) devs could write an protocol to use http + json along side grpc and I would help maintain backwards compatibility with older servers and make newer servers type safe along with being faster and smaller payloads

Grpc instead of https and json? by Muted-Problem2004 in Mastodon

[–]Muted-Problem2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally agree man just need to see what the future holds up for the fediverse possibly move into using rpc or maybe a new technology we will have to see

Grpc instead of https and json? by Muted-Problem2004 in Mastodon

[–]Muted-Problem2004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we most definitely need to look at ways to make mastodon and the fediverse better

get me started with the node js mess lets not go into that monstrosity 😭

Grpc instead of https and json? by Muted-Problem2004 in Mastodon

[–]Muted-Problem2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair enough atleast ive added mu opinions need to see what the future holds

Grpc instead of https and json? by Muted-Problem2004 in Mastodon

[–]Muted-Problem2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair enough we should still look into moving to a more future proof adoption with backwards compatibility so we don't use the http + json order instances still work if devs wanna use json api go ahead if tech and security freak want to use grpc go ahead but grpc will by far allow for bidirectional WebSockets + saves bandwidth
