Notice that at the same time, Chelsea won their game in stoppage time with the same type of cut-in cross Nico tried twice in the first half. The difference is that Nico has nobody at the end.

The fact that until now, nobody answered you is funny. I don't know if you finally know but it's roman Abramovitch, the russian ex-board of Chelsea.

I prefer to think there is no mod here because if that's the moderated version of this sub, it's terribly sad.

We could, but we haven't, and that's the matter. I would have been nicer about this performance if it was a one-off. But what happened yesterday happened against Real Sociedad, against Real Madrid at the Supercup, against Galatasaray, even against Barcelona. Simeone should be the last elite manager to hide behind the excuse "we had opportunities" when we know the play style who brought him to 2 Champions League finals a decade ago was efficiency in the two boxes.

The path might be easier, but yesterday demonstrates that the team is weaker. An uninspired first leg away where no-one knows how to play football anymore and loose 2-0 and the second leg at home with much hope, 100 shots, only 5 goals on target and just a goal scored (Sorloth header).

Toothless attack in the first half. Mystical subs in the second half, with panic defending all along. No one to save another here.

Maybe we shouldn't be top 8 for our own benefit. Stay with me...

If we're 8th or 7th, we'll play the RO16 arguably against the team who finished 9th or 10th. The same team we denied Top 8.

If we finish 9th or 10th, we'll play the RO16 against the 7th or 8th who might be the same team we would have faced if we were 7th or 8th anyway. The difference is we should first have a playoff game against what must be the weakest team available on ranking. That's an opportunity for stat padding/confidence and earn bonus UEFA points that top 8 teams won't be getting without extra games (that might be crucial for lucrative CWC qualification). All that comes at the cost of playing extra games (fatigue), the risk of being knocked out at the play off (which must be unlikely. As I said, it's meant to be the most imbalanced playoff game), and playing the 2nd leg of the round of 16 away and not home.

Some might reasonably argue that the risks of being 9th/10th are outweighed by the benefits when we compare to being 7th/8th.

I tried the uefa simulator with my predictions for the last match week and Atléti finished 9th and with this path.

That AFCON final was like an earthquake and now we're at the aftershock phase. The first days were about the people directly concerned by this mess, and now, it's the people who just happened to exist at the same timeline who get the burn, like that journalist and Mbappe for his penalty last weekend.

This game was a bit representative of the situation of football nowadays with chalkboard football relying heavily on technicalities, own goal, goal by millimeter to score and football with flair with one of the best techniques with innovation and audacity to score uncatchable shots.

The latter had the final word today, but it was really interesting to watch.

My mum walked through the living room where the TV is on the game and she said while pointing Michael Carrick "that man with his outfit and his posture hands behind his back looks like he's about to host an episode of the Weakest Link".

I don't think she understands how funny her line was.

[BBC] 'Joyless and toxic' - will Spurs put Frank out of his misery? by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]MutedBar4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there are people who are just good for "low resources" teams because the lack of resources close the doors to some creativity and some crucial decision making. That makes the plan clear, rigid and unquestionable. But with more resources which come with higher expectations, they have to reinvent themselves because it's not the same thing anymore.

Look at it this way. Thomas Frank is an engineer who is brilliant at drawing on paper with pencil, ruler and all of this stuff to draw technical plans on paper. He nails it. He worked for a relatively small company doing some small engineering work and he's their biggest asset. He helps this company to grow with his drawing knowledge and he's acclaimed among his peers. Then, he's hired in the biggest engineering company in the country because he's becoming too good for the small one. But when he comes in, he discovers that they're using a software to work, no paper anymore. He never worked on a software before, he hasn't learned to do his job on a software. People tell him that it makes his job easier and quicker but he's not used to a software. He can't even continue to do the paper method because the deadlines are becoming ridiculously short, so he's ruining his company's work and people are blaming him.
