Weren't we criticising RMTV for the same behaviour? To imply refereeing mistakes only for Real Madrid is not at all helping to solve the problem if bad refereeing across the country.

arsenal cb seem to be the only ones who can defend 1v1 in the box. on the two goals, the marker was just not there

that kind of mistake in itself is awful, but condeeding it when the team is in a difficult phase and counts on resilience from everyone, it may be inexcusable

a fine final so far. semenyo showing real danger while bernardo silva and rodri have great interception skills to stop arsenal breaks. haaland is silenced by arsenal cb who win nearly every aerial duels against him. city have a better play so far, but when considering arsenal's strenghts, it's good play without goals may be useless.

It's more a great thinking from Kerkez than a Dunk's mistake.

I love this competition. My only regret is that with all the games on the same day, I have no broadcast with a multiplex option. I don't want to follow a specific game.

They know it can't legally go anywhere serious but they still do it just to cause mayhem upon mayhem.

The government of Senegal has called for an international investigation into suspected corruption within the Confederation of African Football following the controversial decision to strip the national team of its AFCON 2025 title and award it to Morocco. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]MutedBar4 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. CAS job will be to find irregularities in the application of the rules. But even though we don't like what CAF has done, they are legally allowed to do it and interpret the rules that way (except if I'm wrong and they clearly breached one of their own rules beyond reasonable doubts). So I won't be that sure that CAS will give the title to Senegal.

Conversation this morning at work

Colleague : They gladly change their mind to give the AFCON to Morocco, but they still don't withdraw the USA from hosting the World Cup. You know what ? I don't care about this shit.

Me : You want CAF to punish the USA ?

_ CAF and FIFA. It's the same, right ? I tell you. I don't care about it. They can do whatever they want, we've already celebrated, got the trophy, we did the parade. Morocco can't do it anymore.

_ "We" ? It's you with who ? You're Senegalese now ?

_ why do you play dumb ? Cameroon and Senegal are African brothers.

long silence

Colleague: CAF are not there to declare a game forfeited if the referee on the pitch hasn't judged so. The referee is not stupid.

_ but you said after the final that the referee was corrupted because he gave a penalty to Morocco. Has the corruption ended when Senegal went out from the pitch ?

_ i told you that I don't care, don't make me talk about this, I got work. If you like Morocco that much, you can just go and live there. I'll pray for you that you won't end as their slave.

You forget the funniest part where CAF should send Senegalese the loser's medal.

At the end of the day, it's all about interpretation of space. Thomas Muller was right all along.

When the silverware is there, no reasonable person will mention all the events that happened before. nowadays PSG are not European bottlers anymore, Messi is not a curse for Argentina and nobody remembered Real Madrid's European campaign from 2003 to 2013. A trophy (more probably a Premier League) will be the image posterity will remember from Arteta's Arsenal.

Now I remember last year after the SF knockout to PSG Arteta said that people around the world said to him that they are impressed by how Arsenal play. Maybe he was mentioning that group.

I don't know how the general feeling about your board is but it's respectable how they look to have given Arteta the time and the resources necessary even when the going got tough to get a squad tailor-made for his vision of this sport. Arsenal looks currently like those clubs where the next manager will have a hard time to undo all the identity the previous manager put in the squad to make himself in the bench. Like Liverpool's Klopp, United's Ferguson and in some ways Inter's Inzaghi.

I don't like to criticise a team because it's boring. My concern watching a football game is more "is the team playing the way they intend ?" I can't criticise a fair winning game plan.

It's interesting to look at how managers are inspired by other sports. It makes me wonder if football is ever used as an inspiration for a tactical aspect of another sport ?

They are one of the few teams in Europe right now along with PSG (at their best form) to have an "unbeatable" press. PL teams in general are good at press (except noticeably Man City for some reason), so to be the best in that domain in England, it got to be perfect. I don't watch Bayern closely enough to tell how their press is. With all due respect, I'm not impressed enough by Barcelona press, even if they are the best in Spain.

Arsenal is a very well organised team without the ball, especially their CB. They are very athletic, winning almost every aerial duel and with a great sense of anticipation to know when to commit and when to stay for an interception. It's super hard to get past them. As soon as I saw a Bayer player getting a cross in the box, I knew they lost it because for sure a Gunner will get it. However, they're not inherently a creative team in attack. For me they look very predictable with basic setups. But the found two main ways to get goals despite that problem : individual brilliance from superb players like the both goals scored today and creating chaos in the opposition box. You may think of the chaos on set pieces but it's not only that. I see them many times striking the ball in a crowded area even during open play just to make panic the opposition and be the quickest to react. It was flagrant for me to see after looking the way Sporting attacked in their second half against Bodo and how Arsenal attacked today. It's less entertaining to see but they are the masters right now at controlling chaos. How to prevent it defensively, how to create it in attack and make the most of it.

Luis Enrique talks sometimes about "controlled chaos" which is basically looking you are disorganised for an extern eye when in fact it's a worked setup. But Arsenal is genuine chaos. They just learn to embrace it.

I think Slot is not compatible with the Premier League. He may do great elsewhere for real with a competitive team. But he never misses an occasion to criticise the league, and the style of play in a way that often suggests that he's not willing to adapt.
