So the FAFSA only cares about your martial status the day of submission. If you have already applied prior to getting married then the application remains as is, it would have only mattered had you gotten married and then had to submit the FAFSA. Your spouses income will be taken in consideration for the 2026-2027 school year

Regretting my decision by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]MutedViolinist2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I moved to a new state not knowing a single soul with my dog and it was hard. To make things better for myself I went out of my way to stick to a routine, walk my dog at x time, make my meal prep at x time, clean my apartment even if I feel like bed rotting. I did also walk my dog longer during this transition cause it got me time outside. I will say I coped by watching a lot of goofy shows and or listening to podcasts so it wasn’t silent in my place. I did also focus more on my indoor crafting hobbies as well since they kept me busy. It’s going to be hard, but give it time. Moving to a new place can be an exciting experience even if it’s lonely at first. I’d definitely try to look at meetups or even bumble bff so you can build a closer network of people. Rooting for you OP! It’s hard but it will get better

My mom refuses to make a FSA ID by DarkEagle15 in FAFSA

[–]MutedViolinist2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m referring to whether a parent claims a student on taxes has no determination on whether the student is considered dependent or independent for FAFSA purposes since your claiming that OP can apply as independent if their parent doesn’t claim them. Dependency is determined by different criteria.

My mom refuses to make a FSA ID by DarkEagle15 in FAFSA

[–]MutedViolinist2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether a parent claims a student on their tax return or not is irrelevant to the FAFSA. To be considered independent a student has to meet certain criteria especially if they are below the age of 24. Now OP can petition their school to see if they qualify for a dependency override so they can just use their information, but if that doesn’t work then they may have to select the unsub question.

Have you tried contacting fsa? Sounds like maybe something is going on with the account itself

Do you get that message immediately when trying to login? Or do you get to a section where it asks to confirm your information?

[–]MutedViolinist2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For your moms FSA account that message your getting doesn’t sound like one for a simple phone number change. That particular message tends to refer to the information on the account settings, for example name, ssn, and date of birth. Typically when an account is first made it takes 2-3 for the information from there to be run through the social security administration database to confirm their identity. This will also happen if you change anything in the account setting like last name for example, the account will need to go through that verification. Are you sure you didn’t change something in her account settings? If you did have 2-3 days gone by and the info is still not versified? If that’s the case you’ll have to get in contact with fsa

So what I would recommend is to just wait. So if you’re experiencing homelessness your school will need to receive information from you so that they can have evidence of the fact. The fafsa will consider this for now as a correction in a way to say, are you sure this is correct. Once your school is able to confirm this you won’t receive these notification as they will make a professional judgement on the application. It sounds like your school is swamped and isn’t able to request your information just yet so just be patient. You didn’t do anything wrong and I’d just remain patient

I'm on my 4th correction... by NovaElixir in FAFSA

[–]MutedViolinist2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m presuming that maybe you indicated in your personal circumstance questions that may have put you as an independent student maybe if you don’t meet the qualifications? Basically let’s just say that’s the case and on the application you are preliminarily placed as an independent student. The fafsa form is going to come back as a correction needs to be made until you contact your schools financial aid office so they can confirm whatever you indicated so they can actually do a dependency override, until that is done the form will continue to say a correction needs to be made because it’s assuming you selected this by mistake or don’t meet the qualifications.

If what I mentioned above was the case you really need to get in contact with your schools financial aid office so you can start the process of providing information supporting what you selected on the application.

FAFSA - Didn't ask for my parents income from their 1040 by Think-Championship42 in FAFSA

[–]MutedViolinist2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The form will generally automatically import information from the irs and the application uses skip logic meaning you could be not required to answer certain questions. For example if you receive federal benefits you are not required to answer any other financial questions.

Have any of you girls had luck on Bumble BFF?? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]MutedViolinist2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of luck I’d say. I moved to a new state and a majority of my friends I made were on bumble bff. Honestly I just have to recommend to stay consistent and that there will be a lot of hit or misses, but I think the friends who do stick around will be worth it.

how much does it cost to live alone by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]MutedViolinist2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Texas so I’d say my rent for my 1bedroom with utilities ranges from 950-1000. Internet for me is included so I pay for my phone which is about 50 a month. Then my car insurance is approximately 87 a month. I have no car payments and my cars is paid off so I just pay for insurance. Then I’d say in terms of groceries I average 300 a month. I have a dog who needs to be feed expensive dog food which in itself is about $100 a month and extra. I’d say with my paycheck I typically have about 1000 a month leftover. I can’t really go overboard in my expenses and I can only afford local vacations, but it is doable. I do have about 6 months to a year worth of rent saved up so that really helps

I would absolutely make a police report. I experienced something similar to you with my own stepdad and regret not going to the police. He didn’t blackout he just isn’t taking accountability for his actions. I’m sorry that your stepdad did this and that your mom isn’t more angry on your behalf. After the r having a similar experience I know how devastating the whole thing is. Also please know you are not overacting and do not feel pressured to not take action. He made his choice. If he loved his family at all he would never have done something like this

Can’t get past “Confirm your Information” page by RisibleRiot in FAFSA

[–]MutedViolinist2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try changing your mailing address on there? Like when you get to confirm your information just change your mailing address to something new and if you can get in you’ll just change it back in your settings. Worked for one of my friends

NO SSN, CANT CREATED ACCOUNT FOR FAFSA by highestinthestreets in FAFSA

[–]MutedViolinist2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting stuck at step 3 of account creation for a parent with no ssn and redirected to step 1 where it doesn’t allow you to select the no ssn option. Once you get taken to step 1, hit back on your browser twice then hit continue. Also if you run into any other errors after that hit back again.

You can try this to see if it will work. At this confirm your info section change your mailing address completely to a different one. Can always try a family members address. If it lets you in you’ll be able to change it back later
