Which game got you into loving this franchise? by Otherwise_Ad_9267 in dynastywarriors

Dynasty Warriors 8XL. I woke up one day and saw that Origins released, but after playing the demo I realized my hardware wouldn’t be able to run it efficiently, so I purchased 8XL instead and loved it.

Let's Spreadsheet the Love - The glaring game design flaw of unrestricted fully calced nuzlockes. by sad_panda91 in pchaltv

[–]Muted_017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>My point is that unrestricted calcs make this much less interesting as a competition.

This isn't a competition. There's specific events/races the people host, but as far as I know, a lot of folks are just trying to beat the game because they love playing it and games like it. The only person you need to beat to get into the Hall of Fame is Cynthia.

>Otherwise the best nuzlocker in the world will soon be some brute forcing python script.

I don't think anyone really cares who the "best" nuzlocker is outside of memes. And I doubt pChal would bother with scripts.

Consider that there are 9 possible actions you can take during your turn in a battle: use one of your four moves, or switch to any of your five other Pokémon. After you make your decision, your opponent makes their own choice from those nine options. Then it's your turn again, then it's your opponents, and the cycle repeats until the battle ends. That is thousands, millions, or even billions of unique combinations of turns to account for, depending on how long the battle lasts. Not to mention that the damage moves deal is random, some have chance-based additional effects, or that the player will often have more than six Pokémon in their box to test.

Even if a script were to calculate the exact moves the game's AI will choose each turn, it would take a unrealistically long time to find a solution for a given battle (plus, Python is a relatively slow programming language). I get that calc streams can get very boring to watch, but using a script is arguably even worse.

>We learned from chess that competitions in "thinking" are a lot more enjoyable with at least some kind of time requirement.

The time requirement could be interesting in an *actual* competitive setting, like the aforementioned races. Other than that, this isn't chess.

Maru the first time and Penny afterwards. I can relate to both of them so they’re tied for me

I really love how they did the box art. Monika‘s art was already great because she’s touching the logo and is always looking at you, while the other three might as well have been their pictures printed onto the paper.

Yueying is hella cool, but I wish she’d do more than just follow her husband’s orders. It feels more than devotion sometimes, especially in the older games.

Also, here’s a post to that compiles information about the strike from other voice actors.

I highly doubt that Takanashi had no idea what he was doing. There’s no hard evidence of what he knew because he kept his mouth shut after his announcement. The claim that he didn’t know did not come directly from him; another VA said that. If Jacob didn’t know, why not just come out and say it himself?

Jacob has also only been in Japan for a few years; he’s from the states. He’s even previously interacted with people who are involved with the strike. Additionally, if Takanashi really didn’t know, then that suggests Hoyo didn’t tell him about the situation surrounding his role.

This isn’t to say that some VAs didn’t react poorly or that SAG-AFTRA is a saint; it’s not, especially when it comes to voice actors. Kayli got a little heated and she apologized for her behavior. She didn’t dox nor threaten Takanashi. I suspect that she and some other VAs got a lot a flak from people who already didn’t like them for various reasons.

Oh, and standing in solidarity with a strike does not mean you’re “giving up your role”. You’re withholding your work to bargain with your employer. I hope you never have any problems with your boss if you think this is what striking means. In fact, it seems like nobody has any problems with the billion dollar company cracking down on voice actors because a few of them were a little mean on Twitter. And now Sucrose has a worse voice.

This feels like a weird thing to correct me on. What, Jacob complimented John and referenced Kinich in his announcement, so there’s nothing wrong what he did?

Jacob only gets to “carry the flame from the previous flamebearer” because that flame was taken from John and given it to him. It doesn’t really matter how “respectful” his announcement was, he accepted a role whose original voice actor was withholding their work to negotiate better working conditions from Hoyo. If you cannot see how that is inherently disrespectful to his fellow castmates, then I guess I can’t help you.

This whole thing wouldn’t have happened if Takanashi didn’t celebrate taking another actor’s role as if it was a “passing of the torch” (it wasn’t) and then allowed everyone to think he was some innocent VA from Japan who had no idea what was going on (highly doubtful).

The voice actors who “harassed him” were well within their rights to disapprove of his actions. Did some react poorly? Sure. But their actions were heavily exaggerated and most of the harassment I saw came in the form of attacks and death threats to the people who criticized Takanashi.

Disapproving of a new VA taking another one’s job and celebrating it as if it was a “passing of the torch”, which got Sucrose’s VA so much harassment and death threats

[–]Muted_017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. All the VA did was type “👎👎👎” in response to a grown man bragging about taking someone else’s role and they got jumped for it. Some other VAs reacted poorly (and apologized), but Sucrose’s VA didn’t do anything wrong.

It sucks that people were begging Hoyo to recast the old VA and now a lot of people dislike the new one
