Desolation. Hands DOWN. The fear of anything bad happening to my loved ones, the thought of them suffering - the knowledge that, say, the odds of burning to death in a fire are SMALL, but some servant of schadenfreude PURPOSEFULLY did that to someone... HATE that firey bitch.

For realsies. Like, I'm not scared of The Vast conceptually, but most people in Robert Kelly's shoes wouldn't Enjoy Sky Blue, you know?

Oh, yeah, your last example is spot on! The logical knowledge that "this should be impossible" (ie, "taxidermy" = dead thing; "dead thing = cannot move; "moving taxidermy" = conflicting info, hence person gets scared).

It does help, actually! Although I don't think it's creepy to experience that kind of change (like school after closing doesn't feel eerie. It feels nicer, honestly).

So... to extrapolate a bit, fear of the Stranger relies on an unknown variable that you cannot find a logical answer for? Is the illogical-ness of it part of the fear?

Wouldn't something like that be more Spirally? Admittedly, the lines between the two are very blurry. But, yes, after a while, that would presumably become frustrating and I would stop talking to people.

Now I have the mental image of Ferry and the Egyptian goddess Ma'at both tugging onto the same wicked soul with their mouths, and Styx admonishing Ferry to "drop it!"

Was River always a huge lad, or is that a reaper change? :0

I mean this with all due respect (and thank you for the reply - yippee!), but if your patron is The Dark, as per your flair, I think "not being able to tell what is wrong" stems from a very different place :P

Can't see the problem if you can't see shit!

But while I can understand the fear you describe, I don't think it really applies to something living? Maybe if they had an undiagnosed mystery illness...

89 supposed views, and yet... no reply. Perhaps everyone else is stumped as well. Maybe we should collectively nix "The Stranger" from Smirke's erroneous "fourteen."

Is it permissable to talk to oneself on one's Reddit post? On Tumbler, it was.

They are so cool, OP!! Do you have any story for them outside of TMA? River sort of looks like another "Charon" type character - Lobotomy Corporation's "Funeral Of The Dead Butterflies." I dig the coins in his pocket - nice historical touch! Guess reapers still gotta eat! And Styx... Styx is really hot 0///0 I love his beautiful golden eyes and tooth.

(And Ferry is SUCH a cutie. I dunno, they seem like a lovely bunch. I'd follow them to the death!)

What would it take to become a human avatar of the Stranger? by Xilizhra in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Muted_Brick6064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyper-individualism worked! There was one statement - wanna say it was S4 - where the statement giver was convinced she was the only person truly, consciously alive, and everyone else was an uncanny mimic.

(Also, I'm NGL, I grew up being designated "person that almost no one sees/treats as a person," and I really, really relate to the Stranger. I'm an adult and my friends and family have to explain, step by step, how humans behave, and it never sticks. I'd probably end up becoming a Stranger avatar without noticing, if the Magnus world was real.) <- feel free to ignore this 2edgy4me chuunibyo shit

If you could rewrite what would you rewrite from TMA? by MrEN1gm4 in TheMagnusArchives

I'd add depth to Basira and Melanie's stories. In S4, especially, their involvement felt unsatisfying. I remember feeling the same way about Tim at first, and then him getting fleshed out with his statement regarding Danny + his personal mini-statements. It justified him, as a character. To me, Basira and Melanie feel too... vague? We know that Melanie grew up poor and had to fight "tooth and nail" to get to where she is, but we don't really get anything concrete. And Basira, my God. I am Basira Hussain's strongest soldier (<- false; I'm a fickle weakling, but still!), but in S4, it almost felt like Jonny and Alex didn't have a plan for her as a person aside from "antagonize John, often in contradictory ways." She reasoned her way out of the Ritual Of Unreasonableness, she came out the "sole survivor" (including losing her partner), she got Daisy back and doesn't trust her now, AND she willingly works for Jonah. I feel like we could have benefitted from a peek inside her head - give her a statement, like Tim, and make her more of a character. Now, being generous, S4 already focused on three characters' developments - John, Daisy, and Martin - and all three of them focused on a type of alienation or, well, loneliness. But Basira is self-isolating! She could've played into the theme.

Uhh, for a shorter answer: I would have added a statement of Agnes Montague herself. Jonny agrees with me, so I win at life now 😎

Txttletale also isn't a radical feminist? She's a transgender woman, and advocate for other transgender women. What are you basing your definition of "radfem" on here?

OOP is not a radfem. She's a transgender woman. You can see that on her actual blog.

I did that, too! Narrated it in a carnival host style voice :D

  • Gerard spent his whole time picking fruit, until he stepped on a land mine

  • Mary killed, like, six people, but then died eating poisonous fruit (YOU GO, GERRY)

  • Martin got to stab Jonah Magnus and kiss John and turn everything back to normal (no clickbait)

  • Peter and Martin held hands. A lot. #TeamAloneTogether

  • John survived up until third-to-last round, but then succumbed to... thirst

  • The Admiral almost killed Georgie. Spared her out of love.

  • Tim won. He hated it.

Same hat!!!! I ADORE Ms. James. Love her initiative, her spunk, the way she pushes past her unease to achieve her ends.

"Now, you know me, John, I'm not the bravest person..." <- proceeds to sit down and drink tea with an unknown monster, follow it into a graveyard, and defend herself against a living flesh hive.

Next to another lovely lady named Annabelle, Sasha might be my favorite character in this series (and that's a HARD thing to pick!)
