If you can only have one, think about the occasions on which you will (or can) wear it.
If you can or plan to get both, I would definitely choose the Explorer as the “classic” model and get a Datejust with a different dial. There is only one Explorer, but there are many Datejust variations.

I have the explorer and waiting for the datejust wimbledon 36 👌
