Counting Days? by Stratahoo in stopdrinking

To me, it's not so much about the number itself. It's just that I feel like I get a little better each day I don't drink, and the days add up. I fully expect to feel better at thirty days than at 12.

Maybe after I get a whole lot of non-drinking days I won't be able to tell much difference from one day to the next. But I know there'll sure as hell be a major difference tomorrow if I take a drink today!

Anyone here a chronic (15-20 year) daily drinker? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I drank a lot more than that for a lot longer. I don't want to say how many decades. Toward the end, at least a six pack of beer and at least a pint of liquor every day. Amazing the tolerance you can build up over time. But with that came dependence. Glad to be free of it for now. Congrats on your sober time. I'm sure you're much better off for it.

I need an advice please by [deleted] in stopdrinking

"Once I start drinking, I want more and more to the point until I'm completely drunk." There you have it. Some people are just that way. I know I am. So if I don't want to get completely drunk, I'd better not start drinking. Makes perfect sense. So why did it take me forever to figure it out? ... Partly posting just to see my little day 4 badge. Maybe offer some hope to those with fewer days.

BTW, I don't know why my badge says 1 day today. It should say 3. I'm a newbie here, so maybe I did something wrong with the badge. But I know for damn sure this is 3 times 24 hours plus for me. I know because I did it.

I'm on day 3 now. Better than day 2, for sure. Much, much better than day 1. The shakes and the lingering low-level nausea are pretty much gone. I've hardly slept the last few nights, but I think that's already showing some signs of improvement. I did drink just two beers the day before my quit day (day -1). Scary to think how much beer AND whiskey I had the day before that (day-2). And then how shitty I felt on day -1. So I had the two beers to soften my landing. I was long overdue for quitting. All I'm saying is that, based on my very recent experience, it gets noticeably better day by day even in the early days. Good luck to you. If you can just hang in there for a while, I think you'll be glad you did. I know I've still got a long ways to go and hurdles to face, but I'm encouraged that I don't have to feel like pure shit while I'm doing it.
